Small single room acceptable
Wifi didn't work ie couldn't log in had to every 10 minutes......was reason for chosing ...staff knew but didn't tell until I told them when checking out.
Breakfast limited choices ie just scrambled no other even fried eggs, porridge as oats in pots! but far worse overcooked cardboard bacon!!!ugh

A fabulous place to stay with beautiful gardens and lovely comfortable room.
The shower did not work very well but everything else was excellent
4.5
The setting , the terrace bar and the breakfast
Shower power was weak
4.5
Beautiful building with a nice garden! It is a bit isolated, so super quiet. Breakfast was delicious.
One of our rooms was on the lower floor, which meant no view & a lot of stairs. It is also easy to get lost in the hotel with all the stairs and hallways. The rooms are a bit dated & the beds not super comfy, but still very clean.

Sehr schönes Gebäude in schöne Lage, ruhig u d Garten
Alte Gebäude wie diesen sind ja gehörig, schlechter isoliert und weniger bequem, ist es aber wert!
4.5
Great location, impressive facilities and comfortable rooms
The water pressure in the shower was a bit weak
4.5
Stunning, historic building with beautiful grounds. We enjoyed a walk around the walled garden, the large wooded grounds, and a game of croquet on the lawn. Having a licensed bar open for coffees, drinks etc was a bonus. Our room was fairly large and exactly as we had requested - at the end of a corridor, so was very quiet at night.
Breakfast was exceptional - the best scrambled eggs I've had outside of my own home!
Very easy, safe parking, and close to the park and ride (or a short taxi ride) for access to Cambridge city centre
We were sad to leave and will definitely visit again.
Slight quibble, because the hotel was so wonderful, but the water pressure in the shower was very low.

Madingley Hall was in a good location outside Cambridge and close to my sons college. It was clean and comfortable. We used the bar which was uncrowded and good value.
The breakfast became a bit of an issue. Several people got very upset with staff due to the lack of food. The problem was that a large wedding party all arrived together and consumed everything just about. However the staff were good and worked quickly to try and resolve the issue. The coffee machine broke and a very nice your lady got me a coffee from elsewhere.

Magnificent building. Plentiful breakfast. Great bar.
It was perfect for me but guests expecting a degree of luxury won't really find that. These are rooms designed for students, so quite utilitarian.
No evening catering, though there's a pub within a few minutes walk.
3.5
Room is big, clean and comfortable bed. The exterior of the house and the garden is beautiful.
Interior and bathroom are outdated. Location is kinda far from Cambridge, you will need car to get to the city.

Fabulous place. Fantastic staff. cant wait to go again.
All Good!
2.5
Lovely location and nice room . the bed was extremely comfortable and reasonably clean
The staff were not very friendly and whilst they were polite, they were very uninformative. Breakfast was hit and miss, one day lots of choices and the next day not very much at all. Also it wasn’t always very hot. The staff barely spoke even to advise about the breakfast on our first morning, they just ignored the clients. I was not aware on booking that this was a University of Cambridge hostelry, I would not have stayed there if I had known. There was no information about the bar, cafe or about dining in the hall, in fact a lot of the refreshment areas were closed to guests or for the university dinners taking place. We didn’t feel welcomed to dine there or enjoy a drink in the bar.

Great architecture in a beautiful setting

Great building and gardens, and good location. Breakfast great choice.
The room was simple, quiet but the security light in the gardens flashed on a lot of the night. The bar had food in the evening, but I wouldn't bother.

Good location. Beautiful exterior and grounds . Room clean.
Opened room with key and found it was either still occupied or recently unoccupied with possessions and unmade bed . Had to return to reception to ask for a new room
Unable to control temperature of shower
Cleaner unlocked our door at 8am when we were still in bed !

The building (exterior) and the acres of beautiful gardens are fantastic, and the interior, excluding the rooms, retain their historical interest and charm. The reception staff are friendly and helpful. The bedding and pillows were also comfortable. Having Netflix and Amazon Prime Video available was also a nice touch.
Whilst the bedroom itself was comfortable and spacious - and the bed, comfortable, the bathroom was a huge disappointment! The shower floor was flush with the entire bathroom floor, which is fine in a wetroom with a proper drainage channel - however, this did not have such a feature - just a central drain hole. Additionally, and arguably the worst part, was the lack of a toilet lid! It's incredibly unhygienic to have an unlidded toilet, as every time a toilet is flushed, it jettisons a fine aerosol of toilet water (plus any gruesome particulates contained within!), into the air. If the lid is closed before flushing, this is not an issue, but a toilet without a lid...🤢!! My other issue with the bathroom was that it was dirty upon arrival - particularly the toilet! Thankfully, I am always armed with disinfectant wipes and was able to clean away remnants of excrement and urine, but, eugh!!
My other bone of contention was the restaurant! Service was unwelcoming and the choice of dishes, particularly poor. There was only one vegan/vegetarian option: chilli tofu stir-fry with noodles, and it tasted terrible! Only one dessert on offer, but had I been vegan, rather than vegetarian, I would not have been able to indulge. I was, after enquiring if any sandwiches might be on offer, given a sandwich on the house: cheese and pickle. I didn't think it was possible to go wrong with a sandwich, but I was clearly mistaken! Although well in date, this was the stalest sandwich I had ever eaten! The bread was tough and chewy, and the cheese mushed up into a puree with the pickle. Needless to say, that as I had four nights booked, I chose to spend the remaining three, somewhere more pleasant! Very disappointing, and baffled by the 5 star status!

A full English breakfast with a choice of cereals, juices, teas and coffee - couldn't have asked for any more
The room was comfortable and so was the bed.
The location, although a little bit away from the centre was fine as we had a car. The grounds and the garden are beautiful.
No complaints at all

A brilliant place to stay with exemplary staff and food

Madingley Hall is an exceptional place to stay - the setting and location are perfect for Cambridge if you have a car or other transport
The rooms are now looking a little tired with low pressure showers and a poor wifi

The location was stunning. the building was beautiful. the staff were fantastic, especially Freya and Alicia. the room was very basic, but beds were comfortable.
The bathroom needed updating.
3.0
lovely setting with plenty of parking, very polite staff
the room itself wasn’t as clean, kettle had left over water in it, the bath taps had hair around them
3.5
Location is beautiful, tranquil and relaxing. Staff were pleasant and accomadating. Room was clean and bed comfortable. Breakfast was 5* big buffet style selection with full English, continental and many different types of tea to choose from.
Some attention to detail to rooms is needed, lino coming up from floor in the bathroom. Restaurant on site more like a sitting room then a formal dining experience you may have pictured from the exterior. No form of dress code at all, which we felt brought down the ambiance of the restaurant.
4.5
The building and the grounds are absolutely magnificent, I also like the location just outside of Cambridge. You do need a car to drive to the park and ride.
excellent buffet breakfast, served in the magnificent great hall.
The economy rooms are quite basic, but nothing wrong with them.
