Location
The staff and service are rude and not helpful. They don’t care to help you at all.

Dated property. Luggage took too long to arrive from the car park.

The location is brilliant as is the secluded garden. We had little contact with the staff but they were very friendly.
I stayed here years ago and my room was much more atmospheric - more in keeping with the entrance to the hotel.
I suspect I was in an annexed room this time which was sparsely furnished and really could have been any hotel room anywhere. We were in a more expensive room which basically meant a few steps up to bed and a separate WC. Some drapes and pictures could have made all the difference. However, our main concern with the room, hence the lowish review, is that the mattress was rock hard and sleep was dreadful. I can't believe that many people would prefer that. Sadly, we felt the room lacked that wow factor which could easily have been achieved. A couple of tea bags, not replenished, wasn't very welcoming, nor the derisory soap and shower cap. I'm sorry for this negativity but it was a long promised romantic trip which just felt a bit flat.. However, it's very clean and of course its central, yet quiet location, can't be faulted.

Location is great; breakfast very good; luggage service excellent; staff professional; garden pleasant.
Nothing really except that we could have used a swimming pool on the hot days.

bad communication about access and parking, room decor was not very nice, felt like a chain hotel, not a nice French hotel

Brilliant location within the castle ramparts and lovely access to hotel's garden. Our room was compact but comfortable. A unique and and memorable stay.

Perfect location to explore old city. Excellent and comprehensive choice for breakfast. Our family room located in the garden was superb, with table and chairs in garden to sit and relax with a book and a drink.

If you want to spend the night inside the medieval city, Hotel le Donjon is a great choice. Clean, modern rooms wait inside a quaint exterior within steps of pretty much everything.
Not much opens before 10 AM for breakfast, so the hotel's breakfast option is a good bet.

A bit expensive but worth it.

Location and ambience excellent. Good friendly service from the staff and drivers. Sympathetic renovation of (very) old building. Comfortable beds.

Limited menu in associated restaurant, however good service !

Well maintained character hotel in the heart of La Cite. Generous breakfast.
Staff insisted that I should know that I booked a room in the courtyard when the description is merely 'classique'.

Private and peaceful
Bar closed very early and the night porter was not very helpful in facilitating service.
Breakfast was unforgettable, very poor and wasted time when we could have taken coffee and croissant in the ambience of the city.

The hotel is hosted inside one of the historical houses of Carcassone, at the very center of the medieval city, two minutes walking from the castle. The decoration inside is very charming and personnel was much helpful. It has a very nice garden at the back and a library with some interesting old books. Everybody speaks Spanish. We were hosted in a separate building with direct door to the garden, like a private apartment. Very comfortable, with chairs and tables in the garden, but next time we will try the main building. Maybe more historic. WIFI and bathroom were all right. Private cars are banned inside the Citè. You can park at a nearby parking slot reserved for hotel customers. It is only 5 min walking from the hotel but if you carry luggage, better to accept the free ride they offer.
Even if the hotel is very good value, given its location, parking is a bit expensive, taking into account there are not many alternatives.

Lovely old hotel in the Old Cité of Carcassonne.
Nice gardens and the rooms were fine, although slightly on the small side. Breakfast was lovely and served til 11 which was great. Staff were very polite and helpful.
Not much not to like!
The old cité was a bit quiet at night, as we travelled out of season. If you're looking for more buzz, then probably better to base yourself in the new town which is a 15 min walk down the hill.

Bed and pillows of low quality, bathroom low quality, cheap doors with loose door handles, shower head did not fit properly and it was a "superior" room. We changed room because it was located above the breakfast room and we were woken by moving chairs, so soundproofing was poor (room 28). Fire alarms went off twice with no explanation. This hotel is complacent due to its great location.

The porter drove us from the parking lot to the hotel,it was quiet an experience!
Another great thing is, steady hot water in the shower! So soothing in the winter.
