Good service in a very nicely renovated hotel. Good breakfast and reasonable prices

Lovely room and friendly staff

Quaint little boutique hotel with plenty of gathering space when traveling with others. The not so secret garden is an awesome place to eat, drink and socialize. The staff are so nice and helpful!

The property was very close to town but in a nice quiet area. The rooms were excellent and everything of high quality. The pub itself was lovely, a very cool and unique place to stay.

Our check in was lovely, as was the waitress service at breakfast but for £260 the room was in a poor state and definitely not worth the money paid. We have written an email to the property to explain our disappointment. The room was dirty and in need of some immediate maintenance and we had no hot water at all during our stay (had cold showers for our daughters graduation) We reported this but received no response at all. The poor breakfast waitress was running around trying to do everything in her own at 8:30am in the morning. Absolutely not £260 of accommodation I’m afraid. Beautiful building but not looked after or maintained.

Lovely room, super comfy bed with quality amenities & furnishing. As a solo traveller I was a bit uncertain about no night staff/security but I felt safe & secure in the end. Would stay again

Lovely stay, Ive stayed at citygate a few times and always very happy.
The rooms are clean but cosy, with a luxury feel

All good. Rooms nice and tidy Sky to a bonus
Breakfast was nice
Only downer was I was locked out of room due to door lock battery dead and had to move rooms for my second night. I was only out of my room for 20-3ins so again. On issue, staff did what t

Nicely appointed room and nicely decorated. A bit of wear and tear but otherwise very good

First of all the property was amazing. The pub/restaurant was cozy and beautiful. Our room was comfortable and very clean.
The staff were very attentive and helpful. We had issues with our tv and also transportation issues due to train strikes. The staff helped us immediately and made our stay very enjoyable.
Lastly, the breakfast was amazing. Thank you !!

Really nice hotel near the city centre. Very short walk away from train stations (Exeter Central and Exeter St David's) and the cathedral.
The room was a great size and very clean. There was also some complimentary port and flapjacks which was a lovely surprise when we arrived.
The breakfast was really tasty and decently priced (£15 for a cooked breakfast, unlimited hot drinks, and a small continental breakfast buffet).
Only negative for me was that it was sometimes quite hard to find a member of staff. There was no one on the reception desk when we wanted to check in/out, but managed to get someone from the bar to help us both times. Staff were very friendly - just a bit elusive!
4.4
Very kind staff, good location, lovely decor, and sweet welcome gift. Walls are thin, however, with slopping and creaking floors (and bed), and an overly complicated and temperamental TV. Have already noted to management that the WiFi requires far too much personal information in order to log in. Feels intrusive and corporate for an otherwise homey place.

Great hotel with very friendly staff. Perfect location for the town centre. Clean and modern rooms with everything you need. Will definitely stay again.
4.4
Friendly and accommodating staff, quirky and stylish hotel and bar, slightly off the main drag but just a short walk to shops and restaurants. Would happily recommend a stay at this hotel.
4.4
Staff were brilliant despite being short staffed, room was lovely and comfortable. Serve fabulous beer too
4.4
Lovely room, really well appointed and spotless. TV didn’t work and after trying to mend it, staff moved me to another room. The TV didn’t work in that room either, so early night!
4.4
Clean, comfortable and perfect for a short city break.

Just a one nighter but really enjoyed ourselves. Well situated, comfortable bed, great facilities and super friendly staff. Would definitely stay again.

The rooms and bar / lounge area were very welcoming and clean, with an amazing outdoor covered area.
The room had a lovely decor with a well stocked mini bar and good quality linen.
The customer service from Lucie was excellent and she was very helpful and knowledgable.
Will definitely be staying here again.

Great location - staff helpful - bedroom nice style

Perfect location for shopping and the hotel served an amazing roast dinner.
4.4
A lovely stay, it is a short walk from the city centre with a lovely pub, will be staying here again.
4.4
Lovely boutique hotel - room beautiful and loved the little touches - glass of port etc. Above a pub so clearly noise until closing time
4.4
Wonderful location excellent service. Gorgeous rooms. Lovely extras. Special.

Fantastic staff and service. Rooms much better equipped and nicer furnishings than larger Exeter Hotels, well stocked mini bar and snacks in the room, even had a sky box! Evening meal was fantastic, cooked breakfast cooked fresh and very god quality. Will definitely be our regular Exeter Hotel from now on - can not believe we have not discovered it sooner!
4.4
Excellent hotel, especially for the price. Room had everything it should. Attractively decorated - bit worn, but very tasteful. Very comfortable bed. Friendly, efficient staff. Nice pub. Excellent restaurant. Great location, close to centre of Exeter.
4.4
One of the best Boutique hotels that I have ever stayed in. The room was tastefully furnished, whilst the food in the restaurant was of a very high quality. However, the thing that really stood out was the personal touch. The staff refer to guests by their name and will take the time to discuss how you are enjoying your stay. The complimentary port and flapjacks just add to the good will they generate.
4.4
A nice stay in a conveniently location with a very friendly bunch of staff, very relaxing break.
4.4
Quite quiet pleasant reception

Check in was easy.
Room nice and comfortable
Free port and flapjack was lush
Only half a roll of toilet paper and no extra so had to ask for more.
Got in the shower to find the shower gel empty 🙄...
Air con only lasted so long before an alarm went off so couldn't use it when we went to bed, the night was unusually hot so this probably isn't usually a problem.
We would stay again

V good stay

Lovely and quaint hotel above a pub/restaurant. Short walk from the Exeter Central and from town. Lovely staff. Reasonable food/breakfast.
4.4
Excellent refurbished pub hotel, good location, comfortable rooms with good ac and our room had a propper full size bath tub. huge outdoor patio area and nice pub.
Glass of port and a flapjack on arrival in the room, great start and best welcome gift i have recieved in a hotel 🙂.
The only issue being dinner is advertised as served till 9.30pm on the menu in the room but at 8.58pm we were told the kitchen is closed. Not a big deal as plenty of places nearby but annoying and lost sales for the business.
4.4
Lovely room with special touches. Really friendly staff and a great meal too!
4.4
Great food and atmosphere in the restaurant. Great location. Richard at the front desk was very helpful, especially when my partner was unwell. Highly recommend.
4.4
The decor is very well done and I found the bed to be extremely comfortable. The bathroom is very spacious and well presented. The only negative points I have about the room 5 is the seal round the shower screen is leaking. Meaning water pours onto the floor and has lead to mould and a damp smell in the corner of the room.
4.4
Gorgeous rooms with a real touch of personality. The location was perfect and there’s a NCP car park right next door. The staff were really lovely too.
The courtyard is a lovely place to sit out and have a drink and the food is brilliant too.
Lovely touch with complimentary port and flapjacks. Definitely recommend this hotel.
4.4
Receptionist was poor on check in. Beer and food was overpriced. Room was clean and nice but an early wake up by a brewery delivery truck right outside the bedroom was unexpected and not a place myself or my wife would recommend to anyone.
4.4
I picked this hotel because I knew it was in a great location and the price was very competative. I have to say the room was great. Very comfy bed, lovely bathroom and air conditioned as well. The staff were friendly and it felt quite safe travelling as a single woman. The only downside was a weird tasting drink from the mini bar that was either past the sell by date or else the fridge wasn't cold enough. But everything else was great and I'd definitely go back.
