Travelled as a couple on weekend break for Matlock illuminations.
Hotel has an excellent location, parking(although up a very steep if short incline). It’s an old building, so floors bit uneven but decorated in accordance with its period, so beautiful if that’s your thing as it was ours. If you want the sameness offered by a Hilton, then go to one, this hotel is unique, you can see it immortalised on photos we saw in the Heights of Abraham exhibition from the 1800/1900’s .
We had a fabulous stay, staff were lovely, welcoming and their evening menu was delicious, as was breakfast.
We will be coming back. Still so much to see in the Derbyshire area, so why not stay here.

Excellent place to stay, great hotel with many original features, breakfast is superb, freshly cooked, using locally sourced ingredients. Excellent service by excellent staff. Still work to do at this hotel but if its done as well as so far it will be stunning. Many thanks guy's for a cracking stay. We will be back!

The hotel is full of character. The room “Calke” was small but absolutely perfect for us. Being at the back of the property it was very quiet even on a Bank Holiday Sunday.
Breakfast was excellent, with loads of choices. Amelia, the receptionist/manager was delightful, helpful and cheerful in every way. In fact all the staff were wonderful. We’d absolutely return.

The room was well presented and very spacious. This room is on the top floor but the climb is worth it and keeps your daily step count up. The breakfast service was excellent and the staff helpful and attentive.

Loved the old building, our room, the friendly helpfulness of the staff..Also, the convenience of the location. A little disappointed that TV in room didn't work despite our re-tuning. It seemed to be an aerial problem. Additionally one of bedside lights wouldn't come on. These are not complaints just observations so that they can be put right for next room occupant. We did report them at the end of our stay.

I liked the style and the age of the property. The furniture and fittings were very tasteful. The bed was lovely and comfy.

Whenever I say at Hodgkinson's it is very welcoming - the hosts are very friendly and the breakfasts are all you could wish for - with lots of choice. There are great views of the life along the Matlock Bath road but the rooms are double glazed so not noisy. Tea/coffee in the rooms along with water and a very decent price. - Always clean.

Very nice hotel and welcoming staff would definitely stay here again. surrounding area is good for walkers. Lots of fish bars and cafes but no convenience store spar co-op etc however matlock is 2 minutes away by train. Not a cheap area to eat out but where is nowadays.

A little dust on blinds and wall lights but not a problem

Had a two night stay in this fantastic hotel as soon as we walked through it was like being in the 1920,s. We were welcomed a lovely lady on check in who told us all we needed to know. I took a climb up iron steps to a cliff top garden and the view was amazing. The interior decor is so museum like but at the same time homely.
The heating came home at the right times so we never felt cold. The different types of breakfasts we had both mornings were faultless and served by attentive and friendly staff. The hotel itself is situated ideally for the shops cafes and not forgetting the Arcades. I recomend this place to anybody who wants a quiet break. We are already planning our return in a few months time. Thankyou to all the staff of The Hodgkinsons hotel.

Friendly staff on check in bar and restaurant closed but plenty of places near by. Only issue. Front Door locked and as wanted to leave very early no one on site to help eventually found a way out via upstairs fire exit

The property has a wow factor. It is beautifully decorated and has kept the Victorian era throughout. The rooms are large and very comfortable. The breakfast is plentiful and cooked fresh to order. The staff are friendly. Unfortunately the bar and restaurant were closed but it did not spoil our stay.

Couldn’t fault it at all! Food , hospitality and comfort all fantastic. I ate in one night and the food was freshly prepared, hot, really tasty and great value. Breakfast was freshly cooked with good choice. I was travelling alone and always felt safe in the area. Can’t wait to return! Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Stayed for 2 nights. Small hotel with good friendly service. Staff happy to help with queries. Both breakfast and dinner were excellent. I've found other hotels have removed or reduced daily housekeeping, but that's not the case here, high standards of cleanliness are maintained in the hotel and room. The hotel has a cosy feel with lots of character throughout the hotel, adding to the the overall experience.

The hotel was atmospheric in keeping with a Victorian feel. Room, en suite, food, service was excellent. The promenade at Matlock Bath was Blackpool like and there was a restricted choice for dining.

Always an excellent stay. Such care is taken over vegan breakfasts. Rooms "themed" Victorian, Owners are helpful, friendly & accommodating. Rooms are pleasant and overlook all the "goings-on" in the "seaside" town of Matlock Bath. - Car parking now included - brilliant

Fabulous old building, sympathetically renovated and a lovely relaxed atmosphere.
Our hosts were so friendly and helpful, and immediately made us feel at home when we arrived. Very tasty food.
Great bonus of free, adjacent parking.
We’ll be back!

Cosy room, sensitively decorated to fit the period of the hotel. Always something to make you stop and look twice. Very close to all amenities and a 25 minute walk to Matlock. Big plus with having a parking space. Nothing was too much trouble.

Friendly, helpful welcome, homely and comfortable feel to the whole place which retains many original features and sympathetic restoration.
The guest lounge felt like being at home and the bar was really reasonable. Breakfast made to your order and all fresh and delicious.
Room was very clean and comfortable with great facilities
The owners and small team of staff were all really friendly and helpful.
Great location for the illuminations (just the other side of the river) and no better place to watch the end of evening fireworks - sofa in the guest lounge with a drink and the fireworks directly opposite.
Short walk to the heights of Abraham . Matlock Bath is a lovely place to visit and Hodgkinson’s is the place to stay
