Sadly even more run down than our last visit. Mouldy bathroom. Dust everywhere. Ill-fitting bed linen. No remote for TV.
Shower was nice and hot and staff were supportive when we needed medical assistance.

Lovely building and setting but very old and dated with some areas requiring overdue maintenance. Room was tired, old, tv would not work, drafty windows, blocked plug hole, not the cleanest room. Just needs massive overhaul. Dinner ok, breakfast missed as I had to leave, takeout options limited, cant really say any other than ok for a night but that is it, good parking.

This was a lovely place with wonderful staff. The dinner was superb. My only reason for a 4 rating and not 5 is because the bed I had was old with mattress springs poking me. I had to take the duvet and put half of it under me. I can't speak for the other beds in the building, but mine was definitely not comfortable.

Staff very friendly could’t do enough for you, food in restaurant was really good and reasonably priced

Great staff and amenities. Beautiful grounds.

For me having grown up in a rambling house in the North of England in the 1960s this was a trip down memory lane. Lovely grounds and friendly staff. Dinner and breakfast both very good. Rustic but charming

The property is in an amazing area. The service and food was really great at the property.

We have stayed there a lot. I spent my childhood in that area and remember it before it was a hotel. It’s like going home

Needs a good clean.

Warm, easy to find, good sized room. Breakfast was excellent, the evening meal was average

Good value for money

Enjoyed my 3 night stay overall, staff were all lovely and room was a good size. Property is dated but this is reflected in the price. Main problem as I was there on business was lack of wifi. It didn't work in my room or the bar and was very patchy in other areas, which I was told was normal. The window frames in my room were rotten with water coming in, noisy plumbing system. No hairdryer in my room although may have been available from reception, I didn't ask. Decent breakfast and dinner. Breakfast was only served until 9 am which I felt was a little early for a weekend.

While the outside of the property is a little tired and in need of some work the inside is lovely and the rooms are great. We had a false start in the first room which was not fully made up but the replacement room was fabulous and very functional and comfortable. The one team member did check in, bar and restaurant with ease and we were not left waiting for any service. Food was well priced and tasty and arrived quickly and overall we really liked our quick overnight. Breakfast was good though a little skinny on the non hot food side. Prices were very fair and would definitely stay again.

Great attentive staff with good food and value . Room good but needed a quieter fan. Will definately return

The property was an old one. Poor maintenance. The inbuilt room heater was not working. After complaining for 3 days, they gave alternative heater which was also not working.

it was a present to our daughter for her wedding day she said it was a lovely stay very relaxing and friendly

We stayed just 1 night. Nice grounds in which to sit and have a drink in the sunshine. Good English cooked breakfast (with vegetarian option). Very quiet hotel. We stayed in the Ennerdale suite, which has a very comfy 4 poster bed. The one thing that spoilt the stay was the unfathomable plumbing. There seemed to be no water coming out of the sink hot tap. Whilst water came from the cold tap with a 3/4 turn we later discovered it took 4 full 360 degree rotations for water to start flowing. And it was a mystery how to get hot water from the shower. The temperature dial seemed to be stuck on cold. The bath was fine, however.

Lovely grounds. staff friendly and welcoming. One waitress needs leggings repaired as hole in them, not smart enough. Room clean but curtains in state of disrepair, and stains on settee. No view in room and quite noisy re a pump going off.

This hotel and the people working in it, need a complete remake. Nothing works well, the interior is old and worn out, the bed was too small and very uncomfortable. The only way this hotel has more than 1 star is because they have a big family and many friends putting their vote in.

Clean room friendly helpful staff ideal location

The picture of the falling down ceiling in room 15 should be enough for a review of how my stay was ....

Great food. Great property.

This was a stay for only a few hours in the afternoon to sleep between nightshifts between locations - checked in 1300 and left 1730. All I wanted was sleep. Un fortunately one of the guests went out leaving their dog in their room near mine. Dog yelped and barked all afternoon so no sleep and left for nightshift feeling angry. Staff lovely and apologetic. Point is, this hotel allows dogs so if you are here for work and doing nights, consider my experience.

Mixed review, great service at the restaurant and at breakfast, check in rushed. The property and grounds are grand but all is tired and dated. The rool balcony doir was open by a centimetre letting in a heavy draft and wind noise, cobwebs and missing lightbulbs evident I also question the safety of the hardwired extension lead in room 208 bellw the kettle. For the money paid overall great property but poor comfort and value.

ok have stayed few times before would request upper room double next time

Hotel is in need of an update - damp everywhere . Food is at best mediocre! Plonked on a plate asked for a continental breakfast was given 4 huge pieces of cheddar and a slice of ham in the middle - glad I checked the cheddar had been cut on the same board as the toast and was covered in toast crumbs - being gluten intolerant this could of been problematic .
Reception staff are lovely as is steve behind the bar . Lots of nearby places offering better for less cost -

This is second trip with my spaniel and I enjoyed it more than 1st time. Gardens are beautiful and large ( great for doggies). Room spacious and clean and red hot water. Good lovely food and breakfast excellent. People were very friendly. Mention Steve on bar excellent service Jacquie on reception and indeed all the staff whose names I forget but faces I do. Thankyou hope to see you next year God Willing.

Service was outstanding from check in to meals to check out. Overall a lovely hotel situated about 30 mins drive from scarfel. Stayed in Room 1 was spacious and comfortable. Only issue and this is minor was key to open the door was near impossible at times to actually open. But that didn’t spoil what was a nice hotel nice food and plenty of it

Lovely stay in this country house hotel, very friendly and helpful staff, hotel comfortable, decor etc slightly tired
4.1
Great place to stay, but could do with some extra staff as the manager was covering many roles, reception, bar staff, and others at once. She did a great job, but was struggling.

Newly refurbished interior - smart and comfortable with -'stately home' style, including grounds, environment. Friendly and welcoming staff.Well presented breakfast. Apparently newly acquired the exterior will eventually be restored.
4.1
Staff very welcoming and wanted to make your stay comfortable. However room dated, shower took 5 mins before any hot water arrived and service at breakfast very slow. Grounds of hotel beautiful.

Ideal for my cocker spaniel Staff and food very good. Gardens are well maintained and great for walking in the grounds. Overall it very well suited my needs and I have booked again for my Rolo. He enjoyed his holiday very much.
4.1
No remote control for tv, very little light in room, took ages for main room lights to warm up and when they did they didn’t cast much light into the room. Only one bedside light - other lights didn’t work.
No hot water on last morning,
I had my own glass in the room, and this was cleared away by the Cleaners - didn’t notice until I came to have a bedtime drink in bed.
The Staff were all really helpful and polite - absolutely first class.
Beautiful grounds and a lovely building.

Very tired interior. Needs attention to interior design. Not a busy hotel. Room tea/coffee needs rethinking to more modern facilities. Show pressure low. Bath tap pressure good though. No sink shelving for was bag and shaver storage. Lighting and power outlets very limited. Location not good for restaurant choices. Never tried hotel food. Check in was slow as they weren't expecting me. No lift when carrying luggage. Manager wasn't friendly when she heard my southern englush accent.
4.1
A comfortable country retreat. The staff were most welcoming. The room was clean, comfortable and well-appointed. Furnishings were adequate. Excellent freshly cooked breakfast. Good value.

This beautiful old manopr house is under a refurbishment drive at the moment but that did not detract from a lovely stay and, when finished it will be magnificent.

Very friendly staff who addressed a concern we had.
