The location was perfect. We were able to walk to everything we wanted to visit. The rooftop bar and grill was a great location to relax and take advantage of the view. The staff was wonderful, even secured us a last minute reservation to the restaurant! The "turn-down" service was an added bonus!
The fruit flies in our room were a little annoying.
4.7
Very convenient to the historic areas.
I thought the price was too high !

Room was serviced by staff nicely. Shower pressure was fantastic. The entrance, restaurant, and decor are very nicely done for that Charleston charm.
I'm not much of a complainer, but for a 4-star-class hotel, there were a few issues that were inconsistent with this class.
The strong chlorine smell on the fourth floor lobby every day was noxious; (I assume it was related to chlorinating the rooftop pool on the rooftop above). Fortunately, it didn't make its way into our room a few doors down the hallway. On the flip side, the room had a mustiness to it. I assume seaside buildings are going to have some humidity issues, but we were surprised how hard it was to get rid of the mustiness. Although it had been cold all day, we ran the HVAC a bit to reduce the smell.
Brass fixtures in the bathroom are showing age (blue patina from the chlorinated water).
The hotel does not serve breakfast. They do serve pastries, muffins, coffee, and hot tea in the seating areas on the various floors in front of the elevators. A disappointment for a hotel with such a beautiful, classy restaurant.
Only other thing "off" for our stay: we were surprised one evening by a doorbell ring indicating "room service." We had not ordered room service. I went to the door and looked through the peephole and saw an appropriately dressed attendant, but I could see no food (it was possibly off to the side though). I told him through the door we didn't order room service, and he apologized and scrambled off. This is a well-publicized threat in some tourist destinations, where people rob guests while impersonating room service. I did not think was the case here but was concerned about a potential mischarge to my room and wanted to report it to Guest Services just in case. When they picked up, I explained the incident and asked if she could verify if there were any extraneous charges to my room. She paused 1-2 seconds and hung up. (!!?!) I redialed and asked again. She said she couldn't see new room service charges on her terminal, but she could go ask the staff. Said she knew who it probably was.

The service was great!
Too old for us, no balcony. No mini fridge.
4.7
The entire place, location, staff were excellent.
The receptionists at the restaurant were rude and dismissive for our asking about reservations, resulting in our never dinning there.

Breakfast was so so.

The room was very clean and well appointed. Hotel restaurant was excellent. Location was outstanding.
Women at the front desk had a nasty attitude. It was necessary that I change rooms and each time that I spoke with her, she had an attitude. Additionally, the pass-key to our room didn't work on five different occasions. I dreaded having to speak with the front desk.

The service, room and food are top notch! From the door man, to valet, to the crystal glasses and marble floors in the room, to the continental breakfast…we felt like honored guests!

the breakfast and afternoon cookies were a great little treat right outside our door
The daytime door men were great, but there was one man at night who would rudely question us each time we entered our hotel whether we were guests there

The hotel was exquisite, room was luxurious, the location was great for shopping as it was next to a massive covered marketplace (like a flea market).
Spotting the entrance was rather tricky when driving. Needed to pull into a small spot in order for valet to take the vehicle and unload luggage.
