Every area was comfortable, attractive n very inviting..security was awesome no worries, location was perfect for our conference..no problem s..lots of amenities. Good choice on my part!! Would love to come back!

Open space: Lots of Stuff
The courtyard was inviting. The kitchen area was open and welcoming. Host left treats and option for wine purchase. Responsive Host.
There wasn’t a good place to unpack. I like funky stuff, but the place felt cluttered. Husband enjoyed counting all 25 clocks.

A Sweet Place to Stay in Hilo
Kawehi (pronounced Ka-vay-hee) provides to her guests the entire front portion of her well-located home in Hilo. It is amazing the amount of room, both inside and out, that you have access to compared to a normal hotel room. It includes a full kitchen, stocked with various complementary goodies, and an outdoor covered dining area, plus plenty of places just to lounge around in. And covered parking is included, which is a great feature in rainy Hilo. We enjoyed our stay very much.
The coqui frogs are LOUD at night, but thankfully Kawehi provides ear plugs, which helps a lot. After awhile, you get used to their co-KEE song, which is strongest during the first part of the night.

Oasis in Hilo
Very quirky decorations which we loved. Everything you could want available in the house - so comfortable.
pillows were quite big but comfortable once we got used to them.

Exceptional
The hostess has stocked this apartment with essentials and perks. Basics are in the kitchen to use, which was wonderful. The previous place we stayed did not even provide salt and pepper. Plus the apartment is supplied with informative books to help you plan and some other of those other essentials that you normally would have to get or do without. On top of all that, she was able to make spot on recommendations. A very easy and productive place to stay.
I loved all the artifacts in this apartment, but have to admit it was a little too much for my tastes at the same time. Not really a criticism, just an observation. I think all that makes it a great alternative to cookie cutter resort rooms.

Great host and awesome house!
Tons of room. All the kitchen amenities needed. Very close to downtown Hilo. Clean and comfortable. Short drive to volcanoes. Lots of helpful tips and reminders for how to be a good guest in the tropical environment. Authentic experience.
Nothing we loved it and enjoyed it. But for those not comfortable or used to tropical environments (lizards, some mosquitoes and flys, frogs) this (and most places in Hilo) wouldn’t be the place for everyone

Ok for one night stay
The house is truly big. Some very interesting Hawaiian decor and the garden is very beautiful! We had very little communication with the host but she seemed nice and did try to solve the problem we had with the laundry. The best thing was the location - a walking distance to downtown and a short drive to lots of attractions in the area.
The description said washer and dryer in included amenities, however when we got there there was neither. We reached out to the host and she said it was a valet laundry meaning we would give her our dirty clothes and she’d go wash them. First of all, that’s not what the description said (I believe she changed it now), second it’s not the best idea in the covid world... third we have hiking clothes which need to be washed and dried a certain way. Basically, if we knew the true situation we wouldn’t have booked this place. We had to change our schedule to go use the laundromat (which was thankfully only 5 min away). The host was nice to offer us $20, but we didn’t take it, all we needed was the ability to chuck the laundry into the machine and get on with our day. Another thing was the stickers. I’ve seen reviews saying the house felt like home. I don’t know but my home is not full of notes saying what to do or not to do. Some things were pretty obvious and still they had notes/stickers. We didn’t feel very welcome, as we had to be very careful and look if there was a sticker saying what to touch/use and what not and how... There were also no walls between the main house and the guest house. I think this needs to be mentioned. My husband and I were going through rough time and just needed a place to reset and sort things out. But we were leaving next to the hosts. We could hear them all the time and they could hear us. The two spaces are separated by a curtain... We also had brown crawly bugs on the bed every night. The floors were dirty, there were pins and needles lying around. It says remove slippers but I almost stepped on a needle on the floor walking barefoot:( Overall I think the place can be ok for one night stay but for longer the super high cost is not justified.
