Peaceful, incredibly beautiful setting overlooking the ocean - right from the comfort of a well-loved, home-away-from-home. We watched lobster boats, listened to waves, seagulls, loons - all while on the wrap-around, covered porch. Perfect location to walk down the short path to the private beach and thoroughly enjoy life on the Maine Coast. We had our two pups and it was wonderful being able to walk them along the beach and around the area - they loved their vacation too!
Betsy and Steve have positively, absolutely anything you could imagine you would need in their cabin - my goodness; the girl scout motto, "Always Be Prepared" is living testament in their cabin! They are lovely people and made you feel right at home with how easy and comfortable you immediately feel, settling into the cabin; it honestly felt like "home." To us, the details and thoughtfulness that they have poured into their cabin is a true testament to the love they share with all of their guests.
The cabin's contents were thoroughly sanitized, cleaned; plenty of crisp bedding (and very comfortable mattresses/pillows too), well-stocked variety of linens, cook/bakeware, - anything you need, it's there. Games/puzzles/books for enjoyment are plentiful.
Lobsters at the dock were delicious and we certainly had our share of them! Wallace's General Store has the absolute best, freshest sandwiches available - try the Crispy Chicken roll - goodness, it's the best Crispy Chicken I've ever eaten!
We are so incredibly blessed to have found Betsy and Steve's rental cabin and will definitely be returning every year for as long as they'll have us! Thank you so very much for such a lovely stay!

Peace and Beauty
We loved our week at this cabin. It’s the perfect spot for relaxing and taking in the coastal Maine views and activities. We especially loved watching the lobster boats hauling traps, and listening to the sounds of the waves on the rocks. We did a lot of cooking and the kitchen was incredibly well equipped. We made day trips to Camden for a schooner sail, Rockland and the Farnsworth Museum, Pemaquid Point and the lighthouse… Our favorite restaurant was Odd Alewives Farm Brewery in Waldoboro where we reserved the fire pit and enjoyed pizza, beer, and s’mores… twice in a week. :) Thank you Betsy for the hospitality and warm welcome to your family home.

How do you describe perfection?
I had read the glowing reviews before coming with a cynical eye...could this be for real? I am happy to report it's all that and more. If you are looking for a slick, minimalist, modern place...don't stay here. If, on the other hand, you want to feel like you have found a connection not only to authentic coastal Maine, but to your more authentic self...get on the waiting list immediately.
The other reviews on here do a great job of describing the beautiful property, incredibly warm and gracious hosts, etc., etc. I'll 2nd and 3rd everything they said (and fourth and fifth). Just go. You can thank me later;)

Wonderful vacation spot
Great rental that checks all the boxes for a vacation spot in Maine for us with authentic rustic charm, waterfront views access to beach and dock, great porches and a comfortable main room with a open stove for a fire.

Our all time favorite VRBO experience!
Where to start! The property is stunning. The cabin is charming. The property owners are on site and lovely people who went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our stay. This cabin is historic (creaky floors and all) and well maintained. We will be booking next year and look forward to a cup of coffee on the deck and watching the lobster boats putter by. Thank you for an amazing visit!

Beautiful spot to ride out a heat wave (and a pandemic!)
An amazing location, especially for a time when you're inclined toward avoiding crowds. House has an amazing view, on a little bluff with rocks, and with a little beach with just a bit of actual sand (!) next door. My six year old loved going out daily to play in the low tide and search for crabs. The house itself is comfortable and extremely historic feeling. Lots of great books and games so that everyone can find something interesting for them. My son learned to play corn hole! Lovely fire pit overlooking the water. When it was hot everywhere else, the back porch of the house was still comfortable. Betsy and Steve were extremely kind and accommodating. Very grateful, and hope to return!

Perfect spot to get away
Oyr trip to Maine and stay in the wonderful cabin, was as you may guessed, fantastic. While this spot is certainly not for anyone interested in partying our having glitz and glamour at your fingertips. This definitely is the place for you if you want quiet, other than lobster boats working 100 yards from your windows, fantastic seafood and even better views. If you crave solitude and nature and a host who will take care of you to the best of her ability, but also leave you alone. We definitely will return at some point, for sure. Thank you, Betsy for giving our family a wonderful introduction to Maine and your home.

The most idyllic Maine oceanfront cottage! Heaven!

--Review by account-holder's wife--This was the most relaxing vacation I’ve had for as long as I can remember. The moment you step onto Camp Galashiels’ wraparound porch and see the ocean, all the troubles melt away and your vacation has truly begun. Located well away from the hustle and bustle, this place is not for excitement-seekers, but rather those who want a simple, no-fuss family vacation. The generations-old structure, lovingly maintained and preserved, is rustic, warm and cozy, yet surprisingly breezy and open, a perfect mix of refuge and lookout. Full of little treasures and wonders (like a corner porch swing facing the sea and a vintage copy of a Will Rogers diatribe against prohibition which had my husband laughing out loud), Camp Galashiels welcomed us with a fully-stocked games corner, comfy couch and window seats overlooking the ocean, plenty of extra bedding and all the intriguing nooks and crannies you would expect from a great old house. This is a place where generations of families have made happy memories, a place with a soul. Though secluded, there are ample opportunities to stay connected, whether by meeting friendly locals during your explorations or by chatting with whoever happens to be enjoying the small beach below. Though there are never more than a few people there at any time, my young daughter had no difficulty making a new friend each day or finding a new niche to explore. The kitchen is very well equipped with every cooking utensil known to man (three different cast iron pans, mixing bowls galore, innumerable lobster shears…), including a good selection of pantry basics as well as plastic wrap, aluminum foil and parchment paper. You literally need only to bring your own food. I found an antique mezzaluna, pointy forks (a high prize in my family), and an instrument of indeterminate use that turned out to be a vintage egg slicer. Everything here is in good condition, albeit used. Hosts Betsy and Steve are gracious and friendly, yet discreet. Betsy didn’t insist when we showed only modest enthusiasm for lobster (though we could tell she was a bit disappointed). We capitulated, however, and bowed to local Maine tradition on our last evening, going down to the docks to buy 4 big lobsters right off the fishing boat. I have to say, this is one of the best vacation memories we are likely to ever have. Thank you, Betsy and Steve, for sharing your lovely summer home with us. This was just what the doctor ordered.

Tidepools and Tranquility
This was the perfect place for our busy family to wind down and finally relax. The region provides plenty of pretty towns to visit if you like, but the cottage is a wonderful world unto itself. You are staying in a 150 year old piece of Maine history. The beach and tide pool life next to the house provided all the entertainment we needed. The owners are helpful but not intrusive, you can rent kayaks from Bob at the Outsiders Inn. A treasure.

I have visited this little slice of heaven three times now and will be back, again, at the earliest opportunity. The Whites are gracious, warm, and always willing to go the extra mile for the comfort and pleasure of their guests. The minute you step into the cottage, you feel at home. Of the myriad activities available, my favorite is a total absence of activity.....this is a book lovers paradise. Make one of the rockers on the porch your own and read away. The sound of the waves and the breeze, the sun on your face.....well, maybe a just a little snooze before reading! This is a wonderful area for long walks as the scenery is some of the most beautiful on the planet. Cooking locally grown fresh veggies in the perfectly stocked kitchen or heading into Waldoboro for home cooking at Moody's are my favorite dining options. I can't possibly say enough good things about the Camp Galashiels experience; you just need to try it for yourself!

Maine Coast the way it was meant to be...
Camp Galashiels not only lives up to, but exceeds expectations. The large porch overlooking Muscongus Bay is the perfect vantage point for late afternoon relaxing & watching the moon in the evening. We never tire of watching the lobstermen ply their trade within an arm's reach of the shoreline. The wildlife is incredible too! We saw seals & puffins very nearby. The cottage itself is a delightful space with many references to the area and it's offerings as well a a good dose of insight to the history of the area. Betsy and Steve White are incredible hosts attentive to your every need. And I don't want to get started on the lobster.... So many fresh lobster, so little time! I can hardly wait until I return. And when I do, Camp Galashiels will be my destination.

Highly recommend staying at this cottage.
This is a very special place where expectations I didn't even know I had for a cottage experience were met and surpassed. Surprise after lovely surprise unfolding around each corner or just cooking a meal with the ocean in view. It is ALL here. Natural coastal beauty: ocean, rocks, surf sounds, curvey and woodsy foot paths which lead all around, broad grassy lawns just where they should be and some of them framed by pretty flower beds and all set among bird calls and chirps, peace and joy. You can sit and swing to and fro on the broad veranda looking out over the ocean in an oversized wooden swinging chair which has sides and a back and will seat more than one person. You can walk on the beach and look for sea glass. You can watch the life of the ocean; boats, birds, bouys, seals and the ever changing face of the weather and set your own pace. You can read, commune, day dream, conjure your hopes and reclaim your dreams. Close to everything but private and away from it all. This is an authentic cottage experience and magical. Comfortable, clean, well stocked, it is large and roomy and effortlessly will absorb the guests and still there is room for these cozy and wonderfully interesting nooks everywhere to curl up in and sleep, read, watch the gulls swooping and fishing or watch and listen to the waves shushing on the rocks. The owners are hospitable and wonderful and add to the overall sense of welcoming. I am going back as soon as I can.

Quilters delight!
I have vacationed here with two friends for several years and love every minute of my stay. The cottage is a wonderfully comfortable home and the ocean is visible (and the waves heard!) from all three bedrooms as well as the living room. The large dining room is transformed into a quilting haven during our stay and we set our sewing machines up so that we enjoy the view while we sew. The front porch is my favorite spot because you can have sun or shade and sit there to read, eat or do hand quilting. We love watching the lobster boats pull traps and enjoy walking on nearby trails as well as the road where we can view the bay from many different vantage points. The cottage is always clean, well supplied, and the owners are more than helpful with any needs we have and with suggestions for local and nearby attractions (of which there are many). There are at least four quilt shops within easy driving distance! This is a great vacation spot and I look forward to my next vacation there all through the year. I highly recommend it and have my dates set for the next visit before I leave each year.

My get away from Texas
I spent a week here in Friendship, Maine reading, walking the beach, shopping and seeing the wonderful sites of the coast of Maine. I enjoyed the comfortable surroundings of the cottage and the wonderful amenities within the cottage.
I felt like I was given a gift to be able to spend some needed quiet time as well as time to visit and catch up with good friends in the area.
I found the cottage well kept, very clean and well stocked with necessary paper staples.
I most especially found the owners, to be the most gracious and welcoming people a Texan could have wanted.
I would encourage anyone looking for some quiet time to just read, walk, shop and enjoy the clean salt air, to visit Friendship, Maine and this very quaint cottage. The owners are truly examples of the name of the town.
