About this house rental
Robin’s Nest is nestled on just over 2 private acres with 267’ on George’s Pond. This year round, 2 bedroom cottage sleeps 4 and is fully equipped and furnished to make your vacation a truly memorable experience. The most recent renovations in 2013 & 2014 only enhance your enjoyment.
George’s Pond is has been a local favorite for generations of owners and renters who keep returning to this idyllic location year after year. The pond itself is 358 acres in size, with about 150 "camps" that vary in size and home to abundant wildlife, notably the fish populations, mostly brook & brown trout, pickerel, perch & small mouth bass. One of the most popular features on the pond is nearby “Dive Rock”. Dive Rock is a large boulder in the middle of the pond that has an Olympic diving board installed. Folks on the pond love rowing out to Dive Rock and leaping into the warm waters. Dive Rock is not a far paddle from Robin’s Nest.
On the approach to George’s Pond, the camp road is shaded by a canopy trees. Next, you wind your way through classic stretches of farmed blueberry fields and then back under the canopy of trees. Your vacation is about to begin and you start to feel a sense a slowing of life’s sometimes hectic pace. Pulling into the driveway, this notion is confirmed as the cottage comes into view, surrounded by towering trees and framed by a shimmering, freshwater pond. You have arrived at Robin’s Nest.
On the shore of Robin’s Nest, a dock extends out into the pond with a larger platform at its end. Here you can plainly see the gorgeous sand bottom this private, “cookie bite” cove enjoys. Our shore is sheltered and just perfect for children to enjoy the warm, summer water of George’s Pond. Kids aren’t the only fans ~ wildlife loves this cove and the ever bubbling spring, right on our shore. Loons, ducks & ducklings are commonly seen at this spring oasis. Add in a swim float moored in the middle of the cove, a kayak & paddleboat armada for exploring the pond (lifejackets required!) a pondside hammock & fire pit and you’ll see why Robin’s Nest is a unique hideaway for your Maine vacation.
The interior has an eat-in kitchen, where a recently installed French door in the kitchen opens onto the deck so the dining area now enjoys views of the pond. The kitchen is fully equipped for your cooking needs. Views to the pond from the main living spaces are immediate and very private. The living room has ample space for relaxing, playing games, watching TV or reading a great book.
Heading down the hall from the living room the first room on your right is a full bathroom with laundry facilities which has seen extensive updates and really stands out from what one might expect for “camp” living. It includes a stack washer dryer, combination tub shower, vanity and a fully stocked linen closet with everything you need including beach towels, paper products, laundry detergent and fabric softner. Both bedrooms exude that “cabin” charm and offer a comfortable sized living space. There is a queen bed in the larger bedroom at the end of the hall and two twin beds are in the slightly smaller bedroom. Both bedrooms , the living room and the kitchen have ceiling fans.
A gas fireplace in the living room provides plenty of warmth after a midnight swim or a romantic atmosphere on a rainy evening and the wrap around deck provides a perfect setting to chill out on summer evenings while BBQing with your friends & family.
High speed, wireless internet service is on hand, as is cable TV & phone, though most guests recommend you keep the TV off.
All your shopping needs in Ellsworth are only 15-20 minutes away and we recommend you stock up on your way to camp as there are only small convenience stores nearer the pond. Legendary Acadia National Park is a 40 minute drive, with the village of Bar Harbor a few miles beyond ANP Visitors Center. Even closer, just a mile before you turn off RT. 200 onto Cousins Road is the Downeast Sunrise Trail, part of the East Coast Greenway, which stretches from Maine to Key West, FL and allows you to hike or bike through beautiful country side not seen from any main roads. Donnell Pond Public Reserved Lands is a hidden gem of conservation land boasting the same bald eagles, granite peaks, extensive forest hiking and pristine freshwater ponds as Acadia with one thing missing: all of the other visitors! Countless other treasures hidden away in gorgeous Downeast Maine are not far from the doorstep of Robin’s Nest. Maps and more information are at the cottage.

This cottage had everything for an enjoyable vacation. It was clean, comfortable and well stocked. There are kayaks, a canoe and a paddle boat and we spent several days swimming in the pond. Location is excellent, close to Ellsworth and Bar Harbor for shopping, dining and sightseeing. One tip - if you go to Bar Harbor, go early in the morning to get a parking space. Spaces become scarce later in the day. Don’t miss the popovers at Jordan Pond House in Acadia National Park!

We loved our stay at the Robin’s Nest. It was clean, had everything we needed during our stay, and was peaceful and relaxing. We enjoyed sitting out on the deck in the rocking chairs everyday and hearing the loons at night. Our dog loved chasing his ball in the yard and decided he liked water and wading in the pond. Josh was so prompt to reply to any questions I had, which was really helpful and appreciated. I would definitely recommend this place and hope to come back again!

Cozy cabin with all the necessities for a week’s stay. We loved the access to the pond and kayaks. Fishing on the pond was great! We also enjoyed the neighbors’ fireworks at night over the holiday weekend.

Great location. Cozy, well equipped home. Highly recommend

Our stay in Robin's Nest was so lovely and remote (and yet still very close to Ellsworth and Acadia). Josh was very responsive to our panicked texts when we arrived and could not figure out the keypad (it was OUR issue, us not the house). We had no other reason to call because the house was so clean, well-stocked, and all essentials were obvious to find.
For just the two of us, this was the perfect home base for travels to Acadia, Downeast and Midcoast day trips, and just to lounge around being lazy by the lake. There are two access points to the lake right off of the property (via dock or sloping land) so it's easy access to wade in, launch the kayak or hang out in a deck chair. We could see the stars and Perseid meteor shower vividly from the dock and deck of the property when we shut off the house lights - surreal. Loved this place.

When I was looking at places to rent for our summer vacation, I wanted a Maine lake cottage with loons and that exactly what we got at Robin’s Nest! The morning coffee on the dock is already greatly missed. It was tucked in the woods but close enough to Ellsworth to get needed items. Having towels, dog towels and some basic items provided was very helpful. We hope to be back next summer!

The Robin's Nest was absolutely fabulous! It was a perfect location to explore Down East Maine. The house on the lake allowed us to kayak during both day and sunset. The house itself had everything you could need to enjoy a relaxing and comfortable stay in Maine. We have visited the Acadia area for 30+ years and this vacation may be the best one we've ever had in the area!

A great family trip. House was great perfect location 20 min to evening. And the old school vhs tapes for the kids was a great touch

This cottage is an amazing gem. Having dog toys was a plus for my little corgi to run around the yard. We took advantage of the kayaks, taking them out nearly everyday and on a clear night you can see the stars and milky way! It was an amazing surprise, we saw a few shooting stars. Communication with Josh was clear and most everything we needed was provided in the house (toilet paper, bug spray, dog towels, blankets). In unit washer dryer is an amazing plus. We loved playing games from the shelf and watching VHS tapes for nostalgia. The deck provides serene views of the pond and the road to get to the cottage is well paved.

We spent a very happy two weeks at Robin’s Nest. Situated two miles down a winding gravel road, it was a quiet, secluded retreat while still within a short drive of tourist attractions like Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. The cottage is very comfortable and well-supplied with almost anything one could want or need, from kayaks to lobster pots. The deck is a great place to watch the morning sun over the lake or to bask with your favorite beverage and listen to the loons calling in the late afternoon. We loved sitting on the dock and watching the dabbling ducks, canoeing the circumference of the lake and poking into little coves or heading out to the diving rock, dozing in the hammock, or, on a couple of rainy days, sitting inside and reading or just listening to the raindrops spattering on the deck. We were looking for a place to relax and disconnect from the busyness of our daily lives, and this was the perfect spot.

Awesome property right on the lake, very well stocked and excellent host. Would definitely recommend.

Serene Lake Vacation House
The entire experience was a 10/10. The lake is beautiful. Having multiple kayaks, a canoe and paddle boat was a huge bonus. Coffee on the dock was so peaceful listening to the loons. Kayaking out to dive rock and diving off of the diving board was very cool. The house had everything needed. The hosts provide so many extras to make sure you are set up for a great vacation. Loved that there is a washer/dryer. We grilled out several nights and made s’mores over the fire pit. Loved all the great selection of board games although the family trivial pursuit matches were intense. Perfect distance to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. All in all, we would definitely return to Robin’s Nest. We loved everything about our summer vacation. I would highly recommend.

"Maine Review"
If you want to hear and see loons nearly everyday, this is your place. A great cabin in the woods on George's Pond is ideal for recharging your batteries. While Acadia (Don't miss Schoodic Point!) and Bar Harbor are "Must Sees", Robin's Nest is a great spot to break from the crowds. We spent two weeks here and will certainly return! Thanks Josh!

Peaceful & a beautiful 45min ride to Bar Harbor
From start to finish this was a positive and pleasant week away. Our time at the Robins nest was just what we needed. The place was clean and had ALL the amenities you could wish for. My daughter enjoyed kayaking, fishing, swimming and the diving rock in the middle of the pond!! We also decided to adventure to Bar Harbor for a couple outings! We would definitely choose Robins Nest again!

Terrific Maine retreat!
We spend a lot of time traveling to visit family but we dedicate one week per year to just our little family - two parents, two boys and two dogs. We always stay by the water and strive for a balance of relaxation and outdoor exercising / activity options. The Robin's Nest really delivered!
We enjoyed coffee out on the dock every morning, fishing on the canoe or from the platform or dock, kayaking, exploring and nature-watching. Having all that equipment really made this place perfect. We could get out to and explore the dive rock and little rocky islands. It was very safe for the dogs and kids to wade and swim from the dock or yard. We loved seeing the bald eagles and especially enjoyed seeing and hearing a lot of loon activity. The house was very clean, which can't be easy when you are in the woods and on the water, so we really appreciated that. The beds were comfortable and it was great that there were ceiling fans. We prefer to cook and eat at home and the kitchen was well provisioned. We also prefer less crowded areas and it was as close as you really could be to Schoodic peninsula and other great hikes, and relatives we have in Sorrento.
The neighbors were all very friendly. You could hear and see other activity but it was still very private and peaceful. I only wish we had come a little earlier so there would have been blueberries in the barren!
Thanks so much to Josh and family for sharing this wonderful escape!

What a perfect spot!
We had a lovely week at the Robin’s Nest! The location of this cottage cannot be beat. George’s Pond is beautiful- we had loons in the fog, we had sunshine on the water, we had all sorts of fun! My kids fell in love with the diving board in the middle of the lake, and the crystal clear water out there made for perfect swimming. We did a ton of paddling around the pond, both with the house’s kayaks and with the SUP we brought. We went to Acadia for two fabulous days of hiking. The games were lots of fun on the one rainy day we had, and the internet was speedy enough to satisfy even the toughest teen critic. Highly recommend Robin’s Nest!

Robin's Nest is a cute, very well equipped cottage, perfect for a family of four and a dog, in a near perfect location. One of the cleanest summer rentals we have ever seen, high quality bedding and plenty of towels, new sponge, all the basics are there and more. We found several extras we have never seen anywhere else before. Several kayaks, canoe, pedal boat, life vests, everything you need! And more, like - dog towels!! Everything you need for the grill! The big deck!
The water was clear and nice, the cove and shallow water perfect for kids. Nice small private beach and dock.
The host is very welcoming and responsive to any questions.

Doesn't get much better
This was our third time at Robins nest, first time under the new owner, and it was as wonderful this time as it was the past two. The home is fully stocked with everything you'd need, inside and out, and was perfectly comfortable for our party of two and our dog (who couldn't get enough of the small beach, the pier and the nice big yard). Location is absolutely perfect - close enough to Acadia and Bar Harbor for day trips but tucked away from any noise and traffic. Most afternoons/evenings were spent fishing on the pond (which was excellent) or relaxing on the back porch. I highly receommend Robins Nest.

My spouse and I had a wonderful week long stay at Robin's Nest this past week and we were to sad to leave. The cottage really had just about everything we'd hoped for and more. The view of the water from the small but private sand/gravel beach and the private dock was beautiful and we so enjoyed listening to the loons call throughout the day and evening. The water temperature was perfect for swimming and the water is so clean and clear that we were able to see incredible detail on the schools of fish that live around the dock while sipping our morning coffee. Due to the number of tall trees on the property the dock and beach don't really catch all that much afternoon sun though they do in the first half of the day. You do reap the benefit however of the cottage staying cool and comfortable as opposed to hot and muggy as it might be without the tree cover. The fish definitely like the environment as we caught several including a couple of nice bass right from the dock. The grounds, just like the cottage itself, are well equipped with items for both fun and utility. There are several kayaks, a canoe, and a pedal boat available for use as well as some floats and water/summer games that are stored in the boat shed along with life jackets and paddles. There is also a charcoal grill and a nice fire pit with a huge grate you can use for cooking if you please. I was super impressed with how well Josh sets you up for grilling and fire making. Newspaper, wood, charcoal, grill utensils, lighter fluid and even fire gloves allowed us to avoid an extra stop. There is a covered trash and returnable bottle receptacle outside in the back of the cottage for when you fill up the can(s) in the cottage which was convenient. You can see parts of the neighbor's house through the trees but the cottage feels very private. In terms of the inside of the home, it was wonderfully cozy with an open concept living area. The kitchen is well stocked and all the appliances worked without issue. I particularly appreciated the nice selection of spices that was available! Preparing dinner would have been a bit easier with more counter space but we made due just fine. The furniture is a bit dated but everything was sufficiently comfortable and very clean. Having a washer and dryer was clutch! The wifi and cable worked great, as did the hot water, and Josh was awesome to work with! This is a most excellent lake cottage and we had an amazing stay!

We reserved a stay at the Robin's nest September 22-30th Come Monday morning we found that relaxing by the lake was difficult secondary to construction trucks, loaders back up beeping sounds, this continued throughout the day/week and finally by Wednesday morning we decided to call the owner, It took us a while to contact him as the contact number listed on VRBO was incorrect and was the original owner Kay who informed us she sold the property a year ago due to noise on the lake. Once contacting Josh wishing to exit to find a new location. Josh stated to us that he was unaware of any construction going on in the neighborhood as we initially thought it was coming from a residential neighbor and that after talking with his wife he was unable to let us out of the lease because he had already spent the money we paid for the 8 nights. We were very disappointed as my Husband works construction and I work on an acute psychiatric unit and we were not expecting to pay so much to hear triggering and disrupting noises. We found that as a crow flies across from the cottages driveway is a working mining gravel pit Mon-Fri and that is where the noises were coming from. We called VRBO to make them aware of the issue as well contacting the owner again (sending him a video of the noisy site) with his response being "I have seen construction trucks going down the road, however was not aware of the gravel pit." Still declining to accommodate us, not releasing us from the lease. The cottage is placed on a beautiful pond however the gravel pit noises do not make for a relaxing vacation. The plastic shower curtain smelled and had mold along the bottom of it (which was insulting to us) and mini flies were present throughout the cottage as well as the smell of mold. My husband attempting to rid of a spider during our stay, had to move the love seat to get it and we were disgusted with the floors under the couches, it was as if during clean up everything had been swept under the couches. Acadia was beautiful and we enjoyed our hiking trips and sight seeing and could have tolerated the other issues in the cabin and were very patient with the construction noise 3 days before calling the owner, however was expecting a better outcome once contacting him. We felt as if we were forced to stay or lose our money if leaving and renting another VRBO stay elsewhere as he was not willing to rectify the situation. He purchased in 2017 and uses old reviews 2014-2017 previous owners!

The Robin’s Nest was perfect for our family of 4 and our dog’s summer vacation. We loved the kayaks and canoe and enjoyed paddling out to the diving rock a few times. It was close enough to MDI for easy day trips. The cabin is well equipped with plenty of towels, extra bed linens, lots of movies/games and everything you could need in the kitchen. We appreciated having WiFi, especially since cell service was spotty. Highly recommend and hope to return again in the future!

We spent a week in Maine, 90% of it in Acadia. It was so nice to come back to our own little place after miles and miles of exploring. We had one rain day and spent it exploring the pond with the kayaks & canoe the owners had so graciously provided to us. We loved opening the windows at night listening for the wildlife we knew weren't far off. I believe we heard an elk calling (could have been a bullfrog... lol) as there is some debate in our household. There is a family of ducks that will come up to you very close if you are patient, right off the pond. They surrounded our daughter while she sat on the ground and were pecking at her feet, looking for seeds we were tossing to them.
The cottage was exactly the size we needed. Two adults and two grown children fit nicely. The owners take very good care of it and when we arrived it was spotless. The beds and linens were quite nice and there was enough seating for all of us.
The extra special touches that the owners provide were truly appreciated. The wood to start a fire, charcoal and lighter fluid for the grill, their kayaks...not to mention the dessert placed out for our arrival... oh.. and laundry detergent, bug spray... all just so thoughtful.
It's just a nice, quiet little spot of Maine for you and your family. Happy traveling!

We enjoyed our stay at the Robins nest. The place was clean and well maintained with a well stocked kitchen and everything we needed. The owner is easy to communicate with and give us great tips on things to do and places to eat in the area. It was a great place to relax and we enjoyed listening to the call of the loons as the sun set on the lake.

The owner is easy to communicate with and give us great tips on things to do and places to eat in the area. It was a great place to relax and we enjoyed listening to the call of the loons as the sun set on the lake.
