This property is lovely and charming. Art everywhere, a beautiful handmade feel, but also as comfortable as any 5 star hotel. Highly recommended for those who want a true Bolinas experience.

Lots to see in the house. A very interesting place. Some spaces a little tight for us (both over 6ft tall).

As we were getting close to Bolinas, the host texted us to report that her husband was at the hospital with a medical emergency and that she had therefore been unable to prepare the cottage for us. She suggested that we postpone our trip for a day, which would have been impossible to fit into our schedules and also wouldn’t have worked because the purpose of the trip was to celebrate my wife’s birthday, in addition to the fact that we had already driven most of the way to Bolinas.
Based on the host’s description of the issues with the cottage, we told her that we would stay at the cottage as planned and we proceeded to go there. When we arrived at 4:30, we found that the beds weren’t made and, more importantly, that much of the cottage was filthy, particularly the kitchen and bathroom. We started to clean the place, but there was too much to do and in some cases we didn’t know what was clean or dirty. At 4:44, we asked the host whether the towels in the bathroom were clean. When we didn’t hear back for more than two hours, we informed the host at 6:50 that we were leaving and that we expected a full refund.
At 7:10, after we were on the road and had already booked a new place, the host offered to come by to clean the cottage, but by then it was too late. The host initially refused to provide a refund (except for the cleaning fee) and ultimately agreed to a refund only after a long, unpleasant argument while we were trying to eat dinner at a restaurant.

We were very much looking forward to our stay. The "hobbit" house (self proclaimed) was a perfect get away from the city. The house was clean and cozy.
What we weren't expecting was 1) issues with the propane heater that caused us to question whether we were dealing with some type of gas leak (my partner and I both woke up with extreme migraines and the dog vomited out of the blue) and 2) a lack of outlets but a concerning number of extension cords leading us to be worried of a safety hazard.
To be fair, we did not contact the owners before we left, but we did email them as we were leaving, about 16 hours after we got there.
I am sure that some people wouldn't mind the issues we found as problems, but it is important for renters to have all of the information.

Of course the location is perfect, the hosts gracious and welcoming and the fairytale magic is unique. Tiny and cozy, living in the dollhouse of our dream my sister and I enjoyed the unexpected luxury (heated toilet seat!) modern convenience automatic lights, plants and flowers…and BOlinas of course. My sister and I are small old ladies yet we used the outside stairs which are convenient. It’s like living on a boat.

Really unique and cozy stay! Loved how fun the layout of this cottage was and the location right in town and so close to the beach. Wasn’t able to get the outdoor soaking tub to get hot water on my last night, but the indoor tub was just as nice surrounded by all those plants! Be cognizant that if you’re a party or 2 + there are water restrictions, but I’d say for 1-2 people it would be perfect. Would definitely be happy to come back again :)

Sha Sha’s cottage overflows with her family of masks and sculptures, who welcome you at every turn, inside and in the garden. Her cottage blends hi-tech with antique—like big new washer and drier, fancy bidet, large tv’s with a zillion channels, a pair of totally cosy remote controlled recliners, microwave and electric kettle, next to antique paintings and furniture…in a hobbit house with handmade staircase, Japanese soaking tub, all graced with lush fabrics and plants and handmade tiles and Sha Sha’s very amazing art pieces. We experienced her cottage during huge storms with power outages and flooding but still found our time there very special. I can envision the cottage in warm weather as absolutely delicious!

Funky little redwood cabin with lots of character. Very Bolinas cool. Not as great for tall folks. Enjoyed the coyote serenade!

We had an amazing stay at this wacky hobbit house. The space is overall much roomier that presented or expected. Charmingly Hodge podge but all the essentials are there and very nice. While there were 6 working land line phones throughout the house, there were zero in the bathroom or upstairs sun room... Just beware in case you need to make a call in either of these locations...

A piece of history and a great location. VERY quirky and not for those who need room to stretch out or a serene, spare setting. If you’re prepared to enter into a Bolinas mindset and have a bit of an adventure, you’ll enjoy it, but it’s not your average VRBO. The owners do a lovely job of providing all the comforts of home and then some, with helpful pointers and little signs everywhere guiding you through the world that they’ve created.

This home would be much improved if a lot of stuff were removed. For instance there were three mattresses on the futon frame and thirteen pillows. Can't sit on it without clearing stuff off. There is a lot of clutter in general
Also the areas for sitting outside have not been kept up
I think the first picture is misleading because the picture is of a space upstairs which is only accessible from an outside staircase and is not particularly useful space because the kitchen, living room and bathroom are on the first floor.

Quirky house in quirky town
We were just going to sleep in the house and hike during the day. Instead, we explored the town, relaxed in the home, cooked in the little kitchen which had all the gadgets we needed, plus pans, mixing bowls, spices. Sha Sha was very friendly and helpful.

Great location, interesting property.
It's a funky little house but worked for us. Great location near town and beaches. We would stay again.

dreamy
ShaSha's place feels like stepping into a little dream. It's really the best of both worlds in that the wood stove, functional antique phones and 1910 construction gives you the sensation of being away from it all, but you don't lose out on amenities - there's high quality bedding and towels, strong hot water, TV with streaming networks hidden under textiles that suit the décor, and a Very fancy bidet with a warmed seat. You can spend a couple days just discovering all the gorgeous intricacies of the space. There are many quirks but ShaSha left clearly labeled instructions all over the house, which I really appreciated. We didn't need to ask any questions, but when we did contact her she was very prompt/available. The Japanese tub is a tight fit for two, but we didn't mind, it still beats out a hot tub with all the chemicals and loud noise. Looking up at the stars in the bath was a highlight. Overall we loved our stay and hope to come back. Also we recommend the early morning kayak/paddle board tour with Cecilia through the Stinson beach shop. She'll make sure you're out at high tide and that you respect the local habitat. Two baby seals swam and played in the wake of my paddle board and I'll never forget it!

Cozy cottage in ideal location
As advertised, this is a sweet little hobbit house, just a very short walk to the beach and to the center of town. It was a terrific base for hikes on Tam, strolls on the mesa, and lots of beach trips. We were thrilled to be able to bring our well-behaved dog with us. (And Sha Sha makes it easy, with plenty of dog towels on hand.) While it was perfect when the weather was good, the place felt pretty small for us with the dog when it rained all day. If you are bringing a pup, I recommend going when it is dry -- you will love it.

Fun Quirky Cottage in Center of Bolinas
The Cottage has a lot of great art work, comfy furniture and little rooms/sitting spaces you get to explore. Loved the upstairs sun room and TV room. The internet is very fast in the house. The location is walking distance to the "main" strip. My husband and I did a longer walk, to Agate beach along the coast line as well.

Cozy and quirky
This is the place for good meals, conversation, good books, contemplation and walking. It is NOT the place for people who prefer large interior spaces and uncluttered lines. This cottage is full of textiles, pictures, antique phones, sculptures and wood carving collections. And just an FYI: you will need to use the wood burning stove to keep warm in November.

Wonderful house in Bolinas!
We had a great time staying in this unique house. The cottage has many intriguing features, including lots of masks and other artwork, a cozy living area and a delightful upstairs outdoor porch. We could walk to the beach and into town with ease. Our host was out of town but kept in touch as necessary for any questions. Bolinas is an interesting, laid back beach community with just enough amenities. Our visits to Point Reyes, Muir Woods and San Francisco were easy to accomplish and lots of fun. We would love to visit again, thank you!

All around experience, perfect.
House was clean, welcoming, and it took us days to take it all in. Even after a week, I would discover something new I hadn’t seen before - quite the artist experience! Beyond comfortable, there is a very pleasant and helpful feeling to the whole property. We adored it all. Bolinas is a treat, it was quite a priveledge to simply walk home from the beach and not have to drive somewhere on 1. We grocery shopped, ate out, and got coffee at 7am, all within walking distance. We will return, it was a memorable family vacation.

We had a wonderful stay in this magical and inspiring cottage. so many beautiful details, objets, art pieces to enjoy and appreciate!
Very comfortable bed, well equipped kitchen where we cooked our meals, wonderful fireplace. Lovely walks in Bolinas and the beach, beautiful drives in the surrounding area.
Sha-Sha was most helpful whenever we had questions.
A very special adventure!

Uniquely charm
This was a unique getaway. Sha Sha made coordinating easy and she and her partner went out of their way to give us a jump the morning we checked out, even as they were getting ready for the next guests and other work.
We stayed during the smoke storm from the Camp Fire which meant we couldn’t use the wood stove.
This is perfect for people who are small of frame. I’m 5’9” and the interior stairs were very tricky. Especially at night. My boyfriend who is 6’2” could only use the exterior stairs.
That said the art is great. The backyard is fantastic, rustic and private. The soaking tub was relaxing.
The location is wonderful for walking to the beach or downtown. 2 minute walk to either.
The kitchen is small but well outfitted. The claw foot tub is delightful. Lots of books for reading.
I would recommend to friends who are open to unusual spaces, looking for a rustic and relaxing get away.
