About this house rental
There comes a time when you need to pamper yourself. Grandview Manor offers you this opportunity. Imagine a vacation where the hustle and bustle of vacation angst is not felt or even thought of. Awake in the morning with a view from the Master suite of your private riverfront where the nearest person is nearly 1/4 mile away from you, your coffee is fresh, steaming and the morning dew is still on the ground. As the day warms up your biggest decision is whether to cross the compound to play tennis or go for a swim, or maybe if fishing is more to your liking, then stroll out to your 100 ft pier and cast a line. You may catch a mouth-watering flounder, a puppy drum or maybe some delicious Chesapeake Bay blue crabs. The end of the day may begin with a toddy on one of the grand porches as the water in the Jacuzzi fills waiting for you.
Your biggest challenge at Grand View Manor is learning to relax. We will provide the surroundings; you provide the relaxation!

It was all as advertised and more. Great house just like a mini resort. We kayaked in the bay. Two of our grandkids caught their first fish. Quick dips in the pool. Plenty of things to do in the area. Awesome family memories! Thank you!

Gorgeous historic property in one of our favorite counties! So much for the kids to enjoy - never bored !! We spent most of our time in the pool, eating on the back porch or on the boat. Thanks for sharing your slice of heaven with us.

The grounds were incredibly beautiful and peaceful. Our family greatly enjoyed our stay and would love to return someday!

We had a wonderful family vacation at this beautiful property! The house was perfect and gave us all space to spread out. We spent our time swimming, crabbing, canoeing and enjoying the beautiful view from the amazing porch. The house was clean and the kitchen was perfect for cooking large family dinners. We definitely hope to return!!! Thank you for sharing your home!

We loved the peaceful environment! Also liked that things were labeled otherwise it could had been over whelming with how big the place is. Would book again in a heart beat!!
Also loved the May Faire in Mathew. The kids enjoyed all the attractions they had.

The house was spacious and had beautiful grounds, in front of a river with a pier. We enjoyed the fire pit every night. Be careful driving the dirt road at night, we almost hit deer twice, go slow.

Our family met for a few days together, coming from north, west and south of Virginia. Grandview was a wonderful spot -- lovely accommodations and amenities! We all decompressed for a day -- ahhh... The pool, tennis courts, corn hole game, table tennis, and crabbing off the pier at night! We are all adults, but we felt like kids again! Our younger group ventured out for Oktoberfest. We all enjoyed the back porch -- again, ahhh... Thank you for such a great vacation.

Beautiful setting, great dock and pool, lots of amenities, great communications with property manager and owner.

My family and I stayed here for our annual family vacation. We can honestly say everyone from the oldest to youngest had a blast. The house is very spacious for the 12 of us. The view of the water was spectacular from the back porch. And having the in-ground pool and pool house was great on the hot days. We will definitely want to stay here again!

Beautiful home.
Plenty of space.
Lots of amenities.
Well maintained and clean.
Beautiful grounds and gorgeous view.
Needs TV’s in the upstairs bedrooms.
In the downstairs bedroom (off the kitchen) a shade was broken and the room felt there was no privacy
Master bedroom quite eclectic and huge, full length mirrors are everywhere in the extremely large bathroom.
MINOR BEWARE - is the overhead vent on stove is a headbanger for anyone over 6 foot tall.
MAJOR BEWARE - is the steps. The treads going down are on left side, but when you get to the last 3-4 steps they are extremely narrow on that side (inches wide) as they curve, and looking down you cannot tell where a step ends and next one starts.

My friends and I enjoyed the nice getaway

Spent an awesome week over Spring Break 2023 at this property. Had more than enough room for six adults and three children, plus water access off the back! Would definitely stay again.

This place is great and under sold in the description. The property is large with lots of space for kids to run around. The house is also large with lots of space in case you can't get everyone outside because of weather. The data access leaves something to be desired but that's not really under their control.

We stayed for a few days prior to a quiet intimate wedding reception. Jeanie (manager) and Kathy (owner) we’re quick to respond to questions and requests for the Wedding Venue. It was a winter wedding so a fire pit was a must and enjoyed by all. The view and space inside was fabulous. Several caterers set up in huge eat in kitchen and formal DR. Area and even space for a cider and hot chocolate bar. Good times for sure. My only slight “extra” comment would be a few more towels would be nice. Memories were made and the Bride said, “Thank you for making my dream wedding come true ❤️”.

Private, quiet, restful.

The lot along the water is sprawling. We enjoyed the fire ring with many chairs at the edge of the property at night and lounged by the pool during the day. Walks down the long pier at night to see the amazing river view and a billion stars was perfect. We had twelve people in the VRBO for a wedding weekend and the spacious home was perfect. Thank you so much for providing us the perfect place to enjoy family with such a picturesque backdrop.

The property is so spacious and comfortable. Virginia at the end of July can be hot and humid, yet the pool and kayaking on the East River can make you forget the thermometer reading. This was a much needed peaceful rest to spend time with and enjoy family. The reservation process was smooth and the owner was quick to answer any and all questions and provide tips to enjoy Mathews County. The 4 and 5 year old children loved spending time in the pool with the grandparents and enjoying thrills at nearby Busch Gardens and Water Country USA. Thanks for a great time!

Grandview Manor offered a wonderful place to relax and get away. It was very spacious and clean, and very well- outfitted for our family get-together. We enjoyed the pool and played pickle ball on the tennis court! The grounds were lovely and well- maintained. We enjoyed our time there very much!

All 11 of us enjoyed the property. The kids had so much fun catching crabs from the pier. We cooked the crabs and had a feast. We brought our kayaks and everyone had fun paddling around the East River. The pool was great and we roasted marshmallows and told “ghost stories” around the fire pit.
The accommodations were clean and spacious.

The home is a beautiful place for a few families to gather and create memories. The dock was lovely for some fun fishing and crabbing and use of Mobjack kayaking company was perfect as they delivered with no issues. The pool was great fun although with only one umbrella it was too hot for some to use on a few of the days as some of the members in the group needed a bit more shade. Possibly recommend bringing and umbrella if you have one. Also bring a pump to inflate toys you may want to blow up as the pump there has no actual adapter piece to use for pool toys. The porches and decks surrounding the house were wonderful gathering places (minus the large deck outside the master bedroom which had no actual seating/furniture so not really a usable space). The yard was beautiful and offered hours of fun games as there are several shade trees that make it so enjoyable. The long driveway makes for a great meditative morning walk and the entire space of the home feels welcoming and happy. With no other houses near, it is such a safe space for kids. We did meet the caretaker who was kind and takes great care of the landscaping...pristine! The one downside was she did choose to cut the grass for a few hours mid-day causing us to basically not have access to the yard as we had to move kayaks/paddle boards and all the scattered yard games we had out (not to mention the fresh grass clippings on wet feet created less bare feet and more sweeping so as to not make a mess throughout the decks, house and pool area). The home itself was large and we were so happy the kitchen and dining room table could seat us all for meals and games. The kitchen was a nice open concept that allowed great views of the river. There is an upstairs den-type room that has a table, chars, couch, tube TV for VHS, and bed. We had initially planned on using this room as a bedroom for one of the children but soon realized it was way too hot. There's no AC in that room and although lots of windows and even a box fan, the hot days made it unbearable to use in the day and not comfortable to sleep in. So, I might not plan on using that as a bedroom unless renting in cooler months.
We had four families (7 adults, a 12-year old, and a 15-year old).

It was a beautiful property that suited us to a "T". We had all ages, and everyone was engaged with swimming, tennis, ping pong and fishing. Highly recommend this property for large families!

We could not have asked for a better location to spend our week away. Sitting on the back porch looking over the river was one of our favorite things to do. We were able to enjoy the pool, visit Colonial Williamsburg, and go Antiquing. There is a great ice cream place down the road (Short Lane). We encountered just a few “hiccups” during our stay, but nothing a few laughs wouldn’t fix. We will definitely save this spot on our list for the future!

Khalil Gibran writes: "Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair."
At Grandview Manor our family of nine, ranging in age from 11 to 92, delighted in our surroundings. We explored both on land and in the East River, all literally outside every door through which you step. Grandview Manor is home to deer, ducks, heron, eagles, ospreys, blue birds and countless other creatures. On land we encountered deer, including a fawn who made an appearance at least once a day. From the near perfect dock, we fished numerous Atlantic croakers, striped sea bass, spotted sea trout, southern king fish and more. You'll see several varieties of crabs, mussels and oysters. We rented two kayaks from Mobjack Outfitters, and it was well worth it! We spent hours on the first floor's well-appointed porch measuring the hours by watching the tide come in and out. Plenty of seating inside and out more than accommodated our party of 9. With easy access to the small towns of Mathews and Gloucester, we ate, worshipped, shopped and visited with welcoming locals. Thinking about taking your bike? Do. Mathews County is a great place to ride. Our host, Cathy was welcoming, responsive and ready and willing to make our visit a good one. She succeeded! While we have certainly rented better stocked and maintained properties, we would recommend Grandview Manor at which you will be glad to feel the earth on your feet and the wind in your hair. You won't be disappointed at Grandview for a relaxing get-away.

The property was perfect for spring break with three families with kids ranging from 4-7. Kids and adults had a blast!

We had our annual fellas weekend here and we're already planning to return next year with the wives! It was four us. The house was so spacious we had way more space than we needed but we loved it (which is why we want our wives to have the same great experience). The host is very responsive. The home and land is beautiful. The house is very well stocked with kitchen utensils and appliances. A great place and space to spend time with friends and family.

This property is stunning and comfortable for large groups. Huge open kitchen with large table and sitting area which looks out to the magnificent water view. Kitchen was stocked with every appliance you could think of. We had 11 adults in our group and everyone slept comfortably in the 5 bedrooms. Only challenge for the 60+ aged guests was the staircase, the house description mentioned this but seeing is believing! Only wish we would have stayed later in the year so we could have better enjoyed the beautiful grounds.

The house is really big and was very clean. The bathrooms were small but livable. The back yard a wonderful view…
However couple of things do need serious upgrade: considering the amount they charge per night.
The wifi is terrible, you cannot watch a movie on Netflix or any other streaming video period. The 3G is actually better than the wifi.
The house does not provide toilet papers / trash bags– so be prepared to carry toilet papers/ kitchen towels / trash bags and gloves as you will have to clean every trash and bedroom linens before you leave. (nice way to end vacation, start cleaning the vacation rental ).
When leaving we had to remove every bed linen and get it to the washer in the garage and start a load of wash.… and clean every trash and put it in the large disposable bins. The only thing left was perhaps asking us to vacuum before leaving.
The bath towels were at least a decade old and was almost ragged …
The best part was – the garage has chalks which we use to draw on drive ways for kids to play. So the kids dew a few circles near the garage. The owner charged us $150 extra saying they need that to clean the chalk marks. Why would u keep chalks in the 1st place in the garage if you don’t want kids to use it. OR was it a trick to charge the extra cleaning.

Other than an occasional goose, duck, or little birdie...it was absolutely silent here. I have never experienced a place so peaceful. No planes, jets, traffic, sirens, voices, construction-you get the picture! The property was spacious, clean, modern-but still had a touch of older decor or accents with character. The property owner was polite, helpful, professional, and prompt in answering questions. My family had the best time staying here and look forward to a return visit.
*Make sure you bring toilet paper and trash bags haha- there is a disclaimer that a starter supply is provided. However, we had enough on our roll of toilet paper for one use and one trash bag! But it didn't ruin our experience
