This cabin was a great place to stay with family. The beds were comfortable and we felt like we were at home!
Overall, the place was clean, but was disappointed in the cleanliness of the hot tub (even after maintenance came and re-cleaned it). The hot tub had a lot of debris floating in it. One of the washers was not working and our clothes were "stuck" in the front loading washer until the maintenance guy came. Some essential items were missing/not provided, such as a way to light the campfire (was told we had to purchase our own lighter, even though this was a perk of booking this place) and no can opener. There was a limited amount of toilet paper, dishwasher pods, and laundry pods. We stayed one week and had run out of toilet paper and barely made it with the pods. Communication with the owner was good.

Perfect for our family!

The property was exactly as described online. The renovations done to this historic cabin were really great. Kitchen has all modern appliances. Plenty of dishes, flatware, glassware and cups for our entire group. There was plenty of outdoor seating around the firepit and on the deck as well. The only issue was an unanswered call to the property owner regarding a faulty ceiling light in the bathroom above one of the showers. Overall we had a great time and I would recommend this cabin to anyone booking for a large group. We had 8 adults, 1 toddler, 1 infant, and a dog. There was plenty of room for all of us.

Great cabin, beautiful property. Well stocked kitchen. Wish there were a few more blankets for some of the beds but otherwise great stay!

We had an awesome time. The house was the perfect size for 7 of us, and the grounds were beautiful. The property manager was incredibly responsive and came right out when we had an issue with the dishwasher. A few suggestions: the dishwasher, which I understand is new, needs to be secured in place - that was the reason we couldn't get it to start. The two bottom drawers to the left of the stove are broken... since we were there for a whole week and cooked all our meals, this was annoying. Food storage was a solvable issue, but the only cabinets in which we could store dry goods were to the right of the fridge. Those were chock full of various small kitchen appliances, some being duplicates of what was already out on the shelves. I had to pull them all out and find temporary homes for them. Finding another place to keep them permanently would free up place for food storage. It would have been nice to have some serving bowls and platters. There were no trash bins outside the house, so we had to carry the trash up the driveway to the dumpster every day. I say these as suggestions, truly. I would highly recommend this house, and would stay there again!!

Great experience at settlers retreat. All the amenities that you would expect. Very clean, great memory foam beds. Don’t expect much privacy as this is a very rustic home with wood slat floors/ceilings that you can see hear thru. Hot tub water quality and cleanliness could use some work but we still enjoyed. You’re in the country so be prepared for a strong sulfur scent when showering/using the sinks. Great horse shoe and fire pit the we all enjoyed. Great location, short 15 min drive north and south to restaurants/wineries, and exploring Hocking Hills. Would book again.

Beautiful property and charming cabin

This historic cabin was amazing. Had both modern amenities and historical charm. The property is beautiful. Isolated and quiet but not too far from the highway and an easy drive from Columbus. The host was very communicative and helpful. Would highly recommend!

The cabin was clean and we had a great stay. We all enjoyed the fire pit, horseshoes and corn hole tremendously. It was close quarters for our family of 12. One of the bathrooms was very small so additional mirrors in the bedrooms would help when multiple people were getting ready at the same time. We enjoyed the local hiking and had a great dinner at the Hungry Buffalo one evening. Overall a great stay and our family had fun!

Ok. My significant other and I brought our family to this area to do some hiking in Hocking Hills.
The area was nice and very peaceful. The house was as described. However, a few things to note if you decide to book this property. This house is very rustic in the front part which adds to the charm. But the floors are original and you can actually see through them into the bedrooms on the lower level. Not a huge deal for us as we took our kids but may be an issue for a group of couples or friends.
The hot tub we couldn’t use, it had mildew on the sides and on the seats and smelled horrible. We have used several hot tubs in different rentals over the years and have never seen this before. We didn’t call as it was really too hot for us to get in and we think it needs to be fully drained and the lines jet cleaned.
Kitchen was fully stocked no issues.
We were a little concerned about the electrical as when we plugged in our phones the plug boxes got hot and the power strip for the water tank dispenser kept snapping and shutting off.
Beds were super comfy in all rooms.
The water is true well water. Which if you’re not used to is a bit overwhelming. We have grown up in the south and I felt the sulfur smell here was quite strong. Might need a better water softener in this rental? Overall we had a great time here and would consider staying again. Not sure this would be the right house for all families though.

The property was everything we thought and more. Great views, comfortable bedrooms, common rooms and spaces were amazing. Hiking the area was fun, and repelling at High Rock Adventures was awesome. Fun was had by all of us and we look forward to next year.

The Settler’s Retreat was a fantastic experience. We enjoyed the historic atmosphere, the large yard, and fire pit.

We had a lovely time here.
The acreage is amazing. The kids and dogs had a blast roaming around freely.
There were a couple of great trees for a few hammocks.
The firepit was great, especially because of the short distance from the house.
Our only complaints were that we didn't have enough trash bags or papertowels. No salt/pepper, nor storage bags/containers for leftovers. Otherwise, it was perfect! We ❤️ Hocking Hills and the Settlers Retreat was the perfect homebase.

This place has all of the charm and character of a cabin built in the 1800's. It was very clean and well maintained. And it had all of the modern conveniences one could expect for a luxurious vacation. Granite counters in the kitchen. French door refrigerator. Nice hot tub on the patio. Nestled almost in the middle of Logan and Lancaster. With all of the conveniences of the larger shopping areas of Lancaster, and close enough to the activities of the hocking hills that nothing was more than a 15-20 minute drive. I will definitely have to come back in the warmer months and try and spend some more time on the Hocking Hills trails.

We enjoyed our stay for a family holiday getaway. It was open and clean. You may want earplugs or a white noise machine if you are a light sleeper, as the floors are open in some places and noise carries easily.

Cabin had the perfect combination of rustic charm and modern elements which enhanced our getaway to the hills! Greatly appreciated the privacy afforded by the acreage, especially when in the hot tub and hanging at the fire pit. Look forward to going back again soon!

We enjoyed the kitchen area so much. A great gathering area. Plenty of space especially since it was pretty cold the weekend we stayed. Very nicely stocked with everything you could think of needing. Also enjoyed the fire pit! Thanks for a great place for our family to spend time together.

This was a great place to stay. A couple of things to take note of: families with kids, this is a loud house. You can hear everything so if your kids need quiet to sleep, this may not be the place for you. The hot tub does not keep the heat up and we were there in early fall so I couldn't imagine how fast it cools off in the winter. The lighting was also very dim, especially in the kitchen when cooking. Overall, the cabin gave our family wonderful memories!

We, us four sisters, chose this property for a family getaway as a gift to our parents. It was plenty of room with a variety of activities to keep the kids entertained and room for the adults to be able to visit both inside and outside. Our group headed to Hocking Hills State Park and Nelsonville during the days and came home to horse shoes, fire, hot tub, and family game night around the dinner table. The kitchen had everything we needed to make our breakfasts and dinners. The space was able to accommodate our family. And the backyard had beautiful leaves changing and deer watching. Would go back!
10.0 / 10.0
We so enjoyed our stay at this retreat. The property was well kept and very private. the deer were up close and were daily visitors both morning and evenings.
we did have to deal with quite a few black wasps that decided to seek the warmth inside upstairs, but as the weather was changing we understood. it's their habitat after all.
The only disappointment we did have was that the hot tub was not hot. It kept returning to 95 degrees and that was way to warm, kinda like bathwater.
all and all though we loved this place and will return again.

The cabin is really nice. Our party was my wife and I, seniors, all three of our adult children and their significant others, 4 grand kids from ages nine to one. and two dogs. So we used up all three bedrooms and the loft. It came very well stocked with dishes and pots and pans. The only thing we would have wanted is a baking tray or two to make biscuits. But we got by. The kitchen and dining room are wonderful spaces for all of us. The grill is an awesome Weber connected to the NG. This is such an important activity to cook and eat together. So overall we had a really wonderful family get away. We all very much need it.
The location is not bad. But Sugar Grove Rd can get a little traffic on it. It is under an hour to get there from Columbus, so that is nice. While it is rural, I would not call it remote. There was plenty of privacy on the lot. It is located out of view of any neighbors. The fire pit is nice especially with the chairs provided. And we definitely had two nights of cozy fires in the cool October air with the firewood that was already at the property too!
There were a few things that keep us from rating this lovely cabin the full 5 stars.
It got down in the 30's both nights we were there. There is one thermostat down stairs. some of the rooms were burning up and others were freezing. It seems that some rooms had forced air and others had the old fashioned open grates. I am glad we brought a few extra blankets and sleeping bags. We managed to get by. I think it sort of adds to the rustic atmosphere. But this inconsistent temperature from room to room was unexpected. The worst condition we found was that when we were making the pull out sofa in the loft, we noticed a stink bug on the couch pillow. After pulling the couch away from the wall we had a closer examination. It looked like a stink bug graveyard on the floor next to the wall. And the window sill on that wall was loaded up with about three or four dozen dead or dying stink bugs too. There were gaps around the window. It looked it had not been cleaned behind the sleeper sofa in a long time. There was corn chips and an old straw in the mix too. Again overall a nice cabin. And we enjoyed our family time. But we feel for the price it could be better,

It was a very nice and chill vibe. The front living room and upstairs was unique old structure with modern add ons with the best of both worlds. Outside was nice as well, only complaint was the hill to the fire pit but the quality of the pit area made up for it! Definitely recommend

Everyone in our group enjoyed their stay. Super comfortable beds, large table to enjoy meals and games together. Back deck was perfect for morning coffee and socializing. Only complaint is the landscapers came on Monday while we were trying to play card games (noise) also walked up on the deck while we were all sitting at the table in the kitchen. Save landscaping for when there are not any guest or inform guests that they are coming. Other then that it was a perfect vacation and super relaxing. Would totally book again and will suggest to any friends looking forward a place to stay near HH.

Sugar Grove
Had a great time despite the fact that the grill had missing parts and we couldn't use it, the hot tub had to be drained and washed down and refilled because it was totally dirty when we got there. Also the dishwasher had to be fixed every time we used it. Despite those things it's a beautiful place to stay. Would recommend it. Hope those items are fixed first.

WONDERFUL
We really enjoyed our stay at Settlers Retreat! Beautiful, unique home and property. Loved the back deck for sipping coffee in the early AM watching deer along the forest line. Plenty of yard space for our children to explore safely. Enjoyed the stoned fire pit area in the evenings as a family. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

This cabin was great for our guys trip getaway. There's lots of activities like horseshoe's and Cornhole already provided. It's located far enough away from the neighboring properties so you can play music and make noise without bothering anyone. Definitely worth the trip

Great stay!!!
Our stay here was great. Communication was great always responded to calls or text quickly. Kids got frustrated cuz the wifi stopped working. They showed up in under 30 mins to rectify the issue.
For those who complained about bugs and/or mice. This property is surrounded by field and woods in ohio, your gonna see bugs and/mice. We did not see any mice and a majority of the bugs we did see were stink bugs, and most were dead from the resent exterminator visit and wasn't a problem for us. A note to future renters do t kill stink bugs in the house, this attracts more, simply usher them out side and this will help alleviate future problems for both renters and home owners.
House is around a 20 min drive to most of the attractions we visited.
All in all we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to friends and family

Perfect Holiday Weekend!
Loved the property! Kids enjoyed everything we had family game nights with the card games that were in the cabinet. Was such a great experience to bring our dog made our daughters weekend to be able to take her hiking with us. Everything was clean. Would recommend bringing an extra blanket though we needed one on cold nights for our youngest, glad we always travel with a throw blanket. Would recommend and stay again!
