Having stayed several times my expectations were high and in the main met or bettered. The staff were excellent, particularly reception and bar staff.
Our room was spacious, very clean and comfortable.
The gardens remain well maintained and lovely.
Our only disappointment was the dining experience. Previously an outstanding feature, unfortunately the standards are not as high as our last visit which was around four years ago. The service was not to its past standard, condiments such as mustard or vinegar were served in sachets as would be a motorway service station. One meal was not hot, probably plated before the other meal was ready.
Hopefully a temporary set back.

Breakfast was good, plenty of options .
Room was spacious, clean and good furniture.
Dinner - nice environment for dinner, with live piano music
Sunday morning had a 'Bird of Prey' display - really good.
Fantastic location, short walk into Bowness.
Room - unfortunately from 6.00am, delivery trucks, workers and kitchen extractors disturbed sleep. I would not want a room at the back of the hotel again.
Breakfast - 2 of 3 mornings the veggie breakfast was not hot.
Dinner - There were 2 main veggie options, which were bland. So we ate out 2 of 3 nights.

Enjoyed the birds of prey and the quirky decor
The bar staff were very slow in taking orders

Everything was lovely. Had no complaints. The hotel decor is just gorgeous, the staff are friendly. The gardens are lovely. The food was soooo good. The room was good too, overlooking the gardens. And we had templespa miniature shampoo, conditioner, body wash, cream. Loved our stay.
There was nothing I didn't like.

The lounge area and bar were lovely but the room was very dated.
Two single beds pushed together to make a double rather than a double bed.
Charged £10 extra for local charity and gratuity but not made aware of this previously
The extra charges and dated bedroom without a proper double bed.

Everything was seamlessly enjoyable with helpful staff, etc.

Lovely place with spacious rooms, albeit bit outdated decor. The service was amazing, staff really friendly and good food. excellent location

Hotel is in a lovely tranquil setting, it was lovely to escape the busy city. I don't think we have ever stayed in a quieter hotel by which i mean we did not hear any of the usual corridor noise that you expect to hear in a hotel, the room was so quiet just what we needed to get an amazing night sleep. All of the staff were friendly and helpful, the breakfast was really good and we would love to return
nothing, maybe a well signposted path in the garden to find the road to walk into Bowness (Maybe there is and i got lost!)

We loved the quirky decor in the hotel! Our room was very spacious and the bath was huge to. There was a great choice for breakfast and all items were cooked perfectly
We didn't like the fact that £2 had been added for a local charity and a 5% discretionary service charge. Both could be removed from the bill but its embarrassing to ask! We did ask for the 5% to be taken off but we left the £2 charity donation on.

This place is amazing! The lounges, the restaurant, the bar, the rooms, the decor and furniture were just all absolutely outstanding. The staff couldn’t do enough for us but also gave us our space. The bed was enormous and sooo comfy with lovely crisp white bedding. we had a coffee machine in our room as well as a kettle and tea, sugar etc and pods for the coffee machine. Fluffy, white, towelling robes as well as towels in the en-suite wet room.
Breakfast was so nice and although the evening meal was also really nice food, we actually found it just a little expensive for us. But we understood why it was priced as it was as it was obviously prepared and cooked by a top notch chef.
We didn’t like leaving the property and coming home 😔

The room was lovely! The decor was quirky and we loved the lamp shades! Room was a good size and the ensuite was also really nice. The tea and coffee facilities in the room were also great.
The breakfast was fantastic! I ate way more than I needed to because it was just so good!
It was a bit noisy just outside our room (on the staircase) and outside the front of the hotel early in the morning.

The attention to detail and the quality of service. The staff were brilliant and looked after all eleven of us making our anniversary party very special and memorable.

A character hotel with its own charming history. Welcoming and comfortable. The staff were friendly. A beautiful location.
Sadly, due to staff shortages, we were unable to stay on site for dinner.

Couldn't fault them.

LOVELY gardens, lovely hotel. Great receptionist very helpful. Decor was nice and the room was really nice and with a warm feel. Nice history with some great pics
So I've given my review slightly lower than I'd have liked to give not based on the hotel as such as that was lovely but based on the hotel restaurant. The breakfast I couldn't fault but the dinner and its service wasn't great. The dinner is over priced for what it is. It took ages to actually get the dinner and there were only 4 other couples eating, the drinks were wrong, the dinner wasn't cooked well and the side was missing, which I raised and they brought straight out. They did give us 2 of our drinks for free due to the time delay in getting food to the table and the missing side but that wouldn't have bothered me to much if the dinner was worth the wait or the money! Raw chips, stake was bland and underseasoned, tomatoe was cold in the middle, side was missing (rocket and slight bit of parmasan) so the only other thing on the plate was a mushroom...which was cooked well, shame for nearly 70 quid. The server himself I can't blame to much but maybe the chef needs a hoilday

Wonderful building/location and views
One slight downside - the room was listed as having a bath which it didn’t. We loved the room and the view though so we didn’t even mention it

Breakfast was very good although pastries would have been nice
Being presented with a 5% request for gratuity on checkout, representing 5% of accommodation costs and everything else - I declined to pay
