I visited during the low season so I got the dorm room I booked all to myself. The staff seems to be a family that also lives in the same building. They are incredibly kind and helpful. They even cooked me dinner both nights I stayed there. Truly awesome hosts.
The bathroom sink was outside of the bathroom and very much in the common space. This wasn’t the worst thing but definitely not ideal. The common spaces are also used by the family that lives there. This wasn’t a problem for me as they were incredibly friendly but it’s something to be aware of when booking.

The warmest hosts, it feels like a friends house more than a hostel.
Location is very good close to everything by walk.
Breakfast was very tasty, gallo pinto with pancake and fruit and coffee.
They help with booking tours in a good price, also helping with laundry and haircut.
They have cute pets, 2 dogs and a pig and host with a family vibe, will come back one day.

Sadie was a fabulous host, along with her family and friends we enjoyed our time in the house. She is a great cook, letting us try some of the local food. We miss her and Peppa already.
Nothing of note at the price.

The people were so nice at the hostel. I felt like i was in my family.they also offered my dinner and a nicer room than i asked.
It was right next to the street so you could hear the cars and motorbike really well. It was like if i was in the street. You defenetly needs earplugs.

As costaricans ourselves, we can completely recommend this hostel. We felt like staying at our aunt's house. It's safe and comfortable, and you will have an authentic costarican experience!

Set in the family home, gives a friendly family feel. Staff were really friendly and helpful in organising tours etc. Breakfast was included and different every day. Despite the tiny space there were communal areas to socialise with the family and other guests.
The dorm rooms are cramped with no space for lockers (although this wasn’t a problem) and there weren’t sockets by each bed to charge. There was a limited number of bathrooms even for the limited guests and an electric hob was the only real thing to cook with and some limited utensils. You could ask Maria to assist with bits from her own kitchen if you needed to use things.

The hosts were so friendly! I felt welcome from the moment I stepped through the door. They go out of their way to make your stay comfortable and nothing is too much trouble! Delicious breakfast too.

This is literally Paco's house and I felt so welcomed there. Bed was comfortable, place was clean and breakfast was very good. Paco, Mario and Sadie (and aldo Paco's friends!) were so nice and friendly. Highly recommended!

Paco house is run by a really lovely family that made us feel very welcome in their home. The room we had was nice and big and very clean. Breakfast was really nice each morning and the location in the town is perfect.
The bathroom had a strong breeze coming in from outside which meant showering was pretty chilly, luckily there was hot water

Lovely staff. Very good breakfast. Very accommodating.
Unfortunately along a busy road so quite noisy.

Loved my stay, the owner is a beautiful lady. Irrespective of language barriers, I didn't find anything uneasy, it was so easy to communicate with her. Loved my stay.
Nothing at all

The atmosphere is really good in the hostel and host very nice. They give you breakfast which is super nice.
Very good value for money but be aware that room was very small for 4 people and in general is a more rustic authentic place.
I had a really nice time, but dont expect fancy

Hostel Paco house is run by a wonderful couple, so friendly, helpful and open minded. They offered delicious breakfast and we really enjoyed this homely and very arty creative place 😊
Only downside was that our bedroom was next to the main road

This is one of the most welcoming hostels I have ever stayed in. It's more like you are staying in an someone's house than a hostel and the family that run it are extremely friendly and helpful. Would 100% reccommend.
Not a typical hostel experience though - if you want spacious rooms, plug sockets and lights by every bed, lockers to keep valuables in etc this may not be for you.

Lovely owners, a kitchen you can use, bathroom is clean, sheets and towel are clean
I don't want to speak bad about this place but I just want to give an honest review for other travellers: this is a realllly local place! Authentic, but it can make it a bit less comfortable. The place is a bit smelly and not the cleanest. Not a real hostel, more of an authentic Costa Rica bed and breakfast.

The couple is very welcoming to guests, normally only breakfast is included but they also let me eat dinner with them. I liked Peppa the Pig too!
The dorm for 4 persons is really small

I emedatly felt like home because we could also share everything with the family and had acces to all the important things like the kitchen, livingroom, Bathroom and even TV.

The staff is so so kind. They are welcoming and make you feel at home. My friend got sick and they were very concerned and servicial with him, gave him tea and contacted the nurse. They are interested in helping you.
Also is a 5 minute walk to the center of Monteverde, were there is a really nice ambience.
As much as I don’t want to talk bad about the place, because they were really nice, I need to warn the people who’ll stay there.
The smell is really bad and you can’t get away from it because it’s all over the house. It smells like pee, feet and something else. But the smell of pee was unbearable.
The shower had a giant cockroach which did not go away from the moment we arrived until we left. My friend asked for a cup of water and it had a weird bug inside of it. The place is not clean
It doesn’t have a parking lot, you have to park on the side of the street. That wasn’t a problem for me because Monteverde is a really safe place, and there was a lot of space. But there is no parking spot.
They have a really cute dog, but he peed on my friends foot. Accidents can happen, but the lady did not care at all. She just said “yeah he does that sometimes because she’s marking territory. That is not ok.

More of a homestay so rated on that basis. You are actually staying in their home. Very friendly and good facilities. Good value for money and an interesting experience that we will remember.
Room a bit small for the four of us but its their home so really can't expect more.
Breakfast was a bit on the small side but overall what we paid was very good value for money so the complaint is minor.

the breakfast was simple but tasty. the hosts are friendly. nice family-business project
the room was very small and there is no space to place the luggages. The beds are not confortable. There is a strong smell of humidity and a big black stain of humidity on the ceiling. There were only 2 electricity plugs in the room. The bed sheets have holes. There is only one shower. The walls of the room are made of doors, where light could go through, and textile.

lovely owner who made a great breakfast, even sometimes gave us dinner and made the experience fantastic in general, felt like a real part of Costa Rican life in comfy home!
the bathroom was a bit dirty and the kitchen was undergoing renovation so we couldn’t use it (which was annoying but obviously won’t be a problem in the future once it’s complete but be aware) however the lovely owners more than made up for these downsides

The family is very warm, welcoming and most helpful. I felt right at home there.
I feel bad saying these remarks but it was the difference to a 10 review: Rooms and bathroom weren't very clean.

The hostel was run by a family. They were extremely nice and welcoming. They made the place feel like home. They made us pancakes in the morning and organized a night tour for us. There was a small kitchen with a fridge, a microwave, and a stove.
The room was small and there wasn't a lot of light in the room. However, seeing the very reasonable price, I did not find this to be a surprise. There were a few spiders in the room which is to be expected when traveling in the mountains.
3.5 / 5.0
very friendly and helpful owners - the dorms are located in their house, so you live next to the owners; simple but nice breakfast, comfy beds, very good location to start some activities
other guests were very loud, played loud music and smoked in the common room/"living" room - that was not nice because the walls are very thin and all the smoke drew directly into the dorms; should be not permitted by the owners to smoke inside the house
