About this cottage rental
Picture this; A rural dirt road leads you through the woods, past cottages dotting the edge of Sebasticook Lake. After a half mile you'll see on your left a line of boulders that set the scene for your entry to Quilt Maker Cottage. This sweet little cottage sits nestled in the trees. A horseshoe drive goes around the perimeter of the level, almost acre, lawn. Perfect for playing Corn-hole, Croquet, Badminton, Horseshoes, or just run with the kids or dog. Yes I did say dog. This cottage is only dog friendly. Sorry, no kitties, reptiles, hedgehogs, or other fancy critters allowed. Contract with owner has stipulations. This cottage is 600 square feet in size, and has been completely remodeled. Open floor plan with full size appliances in the kitchen. The pantry can hold just about anything you want to put in there. Head up the 'pure cottage' stairs to the master bedroom. A wall of windows with white sheer curtains that waft in the breeze is waiting at the top. From the Queen size bed the first thing you see in the morning and last thing you see at night is beautiful Sebasticook Lake, while you listen to the water lapping the shore and the Loons sing their songs. Why does this cottage have 'Quilt Maker' in the title? Because you will see there are handmade quilts everywhere for your warmth and to take you back in time to Grandma's house. There's even a sewing machine if you're in the mood to work on a project.:) Back downstairs is a full bathroom with tub/shower, stack washer/dryer, and a cool porthole window that opens. The living room has a queen sofa sleeper, TV, Bluray DVD player and large selection of movies. Bring your own games and hook them up to the TV. There are board games also. No WIFI as of yet but cellular service is great. No cable service but 6 -7 channels are crystal clear with one being a National channel.
Large L shaped, sleeping porch, can sleep 2 more on full size bed. Also on the porch you will find a dining table for 4, 2 more sofas and 1 chair.
Now the best part! 10 steps and you're in the lake! Boat Dock, 2 kayaks, 2 paddle boards, paddle boat, and a campfire pit(wood provided) for those evenings to tell scary stories. There are two areas for outdoor dining. There is a large platform with dining table, a picnic table and a gas grill for those fun cookouts. There is a hammock, and the sunsets are remarkable!
Newport is centrally located in the state of Maine and is within 90 minute drive to Bar Harbor, 30 minutes to Bangor Airport, two hours to Portland airport and is about 1 mile to Anglers Seafood Restraunt. Best seafood for the seafood lover!
Sebasticook Lake is the largest lake (4,288 acres) within the confines of an individual municipality in the State of Maine. The lake provides for many recreational activities: swimming, boating, fishing, and snowmobiling. Both lake and its shores provide habitats for several wildlife species, such as sea run alewives, smelts, smallmouth bass, white perch, black crappie, and many bird species.

A little home away from home. We truly enjoyed this little gem with comfortable bed in the master and nice amenities. All we needed to do was show up!

Always love our stay here. Perfect place to leave the world behind for a bit!

The only problem we had was finding the driveway since there was a neighborhood party going on and there were cars parked at the head of the driveway. Other than that, the cottage was perfect and the owner very helpful. I would point out the staircase to the bedroom is rather steep and narrow and perhaps would be difficult for some older folks.

The cottage is cozy, comfy and in great shape. Clearly, guests have been considered in the planning. Nothing hard about staying there. And, of couse, the Lake is magnificent. Loved seeing all the ways the weather played with the sky over the water!

Property was clean, very well represented on the VRBO site. The lake is so clear it was amazing. The property manager was very responsive and gave us some good tips on local dining. Very relaxing. We would definitely recommend it and would definitely go back ourselves.

was a fantastic little spot

The lake was beautiful with clear water and a small beach area. The cabin was well appointed and comfortable. Sleeping on the screened in porch was a treat. Upstair bedroom was quite warm. Could use additional tower fan. Comfortable queen bed. The outside equipment could use some updating. 3 of the 5 water crafts had a broken part or two. Lounge chairs would be a great addition, however, overall a really nice rental cottage. Close neighbors but very friendly.

The camp’s proximity to the water, screened porch and open plan are all excellent. We planned on sleeping on the porch, as the bathroom is downstairs; the “double bed” on the porch is really a double cot so it was impossible to sleep well. If the owner puts in a real, comfortable double bed on the porch, we would definitely return for another stay.

We booked through Bring Fido (VRBO) to include our small, friendly dog. We were looking for a small cottage witth direct lake access. We're NH natives & have been to most parts of Maine. We had never stayed in this area before. In the past have used VRBO also so booking was pretty straight forward. Depending on where you're driving from, it's a bit of a ride. Cottage is not too far from gas/groceries though.
Going up Route 95 is most direct for us but decided to take the back way which is more scenic. The road leading to cottage can be very muddy & bumpy, we have 4 wheel drive. We got the cottage code shortly before we got there to get in. The cottage was clean & had A/C on 1st floor with ceiling fans throughout, There are sliders to back porch which has ceiling fans & 3 way lake views. There are small sized steps with railing leading up to bedroom, on left there is old door mounted. (Use caution) which has windows overlooking the lake. There seems to be plenty of outlets throughout & lighting (labeled). The appliances were full sized and clean with well stocked kitchen & pantry. There were plenty of beach & bath towels.
Weather was sunny & mid 80's all week, perfect for swimming & boating. There was also the bonus of a dock since we brought our canoe & cottage 2 kayaks which we used & (paddleboards need updating). Neighbors on either side nearby with some woods in between (both working on their places). Overall enjoyed views, lake, firepit, loons & peace.

Very nice location on Lake Sebasticook. Clean with well appointed kitchen, beautiful lake front view with daily eagle and loon sightings; peaceful and relaxing. Road to the property needs a little work.

This was our second stay at the cottage. Very comfortable and cozy. We were able to have our dog with us which was a bonus. Close to friends and family for us. Already talking about our next visit.

The pros: Great location with great views of the lake and access to the water. The porch on the back is wonderful especially if it rains. Sleeping accommodations were comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked.
Cons: We had some troubles at check in as we had not received the code via email as the owner said. Also, it seemed a previous guest had a dog and there was still a lot of dog hair on the furniture that covered our clothes. We had several unfortunate events with the storm door glass breaking when the mowers came and clothes being stuck under the agitator in the washing machine that were beyond our control. Also heads up to those in smaller cars- the road to the house has not been leveled recently and is passable but slow going and pretty bumpy.
The owner was fairly quick to respond to the glass breaking incident and the check in mishap, but his response to the laundry incident was frustrating, though it was eventually resolved.
On the whole it is a nice place to stay and I think some of our experiences were just freak accidents that others won’t experience, but this is an honest review based on what occurred while we were there.

We really enjoyed our vacation in Newport. The camp was lovely and our 15 year old dog acted like a pup swimming and exploring. We had a great time and the camp is close to town if you need anything. We hope to come back soon. Thank you!!

Wonderful peaceful property, close to Acadia. We stayed over Labor Day weekend and had a great experience! Very clean and well organized, everything provided. There is some construction going on next door, but it wasn’t particularly loud so didn’t affect us at all.

Cute cottage with everything needed for a stay on a lake in Maine. Beautiful sunsets every night. Stairway to the upstairs bedroom is tight with smaller than average size stairs. Beds were comfortable. Kitchen has everything needed. Smaller compote bowls would be nice for dips/one scoop salads for smaller portions. Appliances worked great. Fridge kept everything fresh and cold. Lots of water activities with small wading area. We saw eagles and Loons every morning. Very quiet even with new construction on both sides of cottage. Lots of indoor activities in case of rain. Tv,s worked great with Roku. Several channels to choose from. Wifi worked great.
No complaints except we should have stayed longer.

Perfect getaway. Feet from the water, great porch, all the ammenities you would need. Extra plus...owner provides far more than most, paper products, coffee, all kinds of soaps, spices, towels, tons of dvd movies if it's not there you probably can do without😁. The tv's wouldn't connect to the wifi so Dan went out and bought 2 new ones!! Great rental and great host. You won't be disappointed.

This is our 8th time going to this cottage
We have been too many cottages through out the years.
This is by far the best. Dan has everything you would need for a relaxing stay , plus many water toys.
Everyday you can go out on the dock and watch the
Bald eagles in the tree a few hundred ft away.
We plan on coming back next year just have to pick the dates.

The location of the property was nice. It was well stocked with things we needed. The bed in the master bedroom was nice, however downstairs both the bed and pullout were very poor condition. Instead an adult slept on the sofa. This limits the number of people to comfortably sleep here.

We had a great time Paddle boarding and kayaking . The pups also loved the water. You get to see Bald eagles every day
from the dock. The screened porch has the best view great for rainy day’s also.
Dan, has a very clean cottage at a great location
and he is very responsive when needed to get a hold of him.
This is our 7th time to this cottage hope to come back many more times. Luckily we are coming back in August this year.

The inside was clean and cozy. Kitchen has everything you need.. If you are looking for a cookie sheet check the drawer under the oven. Porch is soooo relaxing. Spoke with the owner regarding outside issues., i.e., grill, paddle boats, outdoor furniture, dock and he was very receptive to our concerns. We would definitely stay here again. Nice place.

We really enjoyed this lakeside retreat. It's a compact but immaculate cottage that's great for a couple or small family. The kitchen was small but well equipped. We were there during the tail end of a hurricane and the lake was dramatic and wonderful!

A cozy and warm place to hunker down during bad weather. Would like to come back and enjoy the outdoors during better weather. Looks like so much fun!

The cabin was exactly what I needed. Clean, quite and peaceful. Floating on the paddle boards was so calming. Watched the sun set at the fire pit. Ending the night with Smores and stories.

We really needed a getaway and this was perfect! Campfires, water fun, lounging on the porch, everything you could imagine. We were able to grill out even though we had some rainy days, but there were plenty of indoor activities! Bromley loved sleeping in the sun and watching the ducks swim by. Gorgeous place and views- and Narda provided so much! Will absolutely come back and stay again :)
