About this house rental
Teach Mo Chroi' meaning 'Home of My Heart', is set upon an acre of meadowland amidst the farmland of Ballintubber, Co. Mayo where your nearest neighbor is likely to be the cow or sheep in a nearby field.
Drive down our little boreen, through the canopy of trees, to the gates of 'Teach Mo Chroi', a fresh friendly country home overlooking the Partry Mountains and Croagh Patrick.
Our boreen, Irish for tiny one-lane road, is just a 1/4 mile off N84 and midway between Castlebar and Ballinrobe Town. Only a 15 minute drive into Westport, a bustling seaside town on the Atlantic's Clew Bay, an hour to Galway City, and 25 minutes to Cong Village, home to Ashford Castle and The Quiet Man Cottage.
In this calm and tranquil setting there's nothing quite as nice as awakening to the birdsong on a fine summer morning. Relax with a cup of tea on the patio beside sunlit mountains; or pluck a novel from the book shelves and settle in for a good read. When night falls, the sky is transformed into a visual feast of stars!
The house is in an ideal location for touring the West of Ireland. Whether you've an hour or the day, consider visiting these worthwhile nearby offerings: 12th Century Ballintubber Abbey, Ballinrobe Horse races, Heneghans Heritage Centre, Corrib Cruises, The Ceide Fields, Kylemore Abbey, Croagh Patrick, Westport House & Country Park Amusements, The Fjords at Killary Harbor, Our Lady of Knock Shrine, Galway City, the spectacular cliffs and superb beaches of Achill Island, or for a special treat attend High Tea in Ashford Castle or learn to fly a hawk at Ashford Castle's Falconry School.
For the thrill seekers and outdoorsmen, try the unique challenges offered at the Killary Adventure Center.
Teach Mo Chroi' is a family friendly home with many desirable features to its credit; providing excellent accommodations to large groups, for reunions, anniversaries, and special family gatherings. There is ample parking for 6 vehicles.
The house is equipped with US 110v outlets as well as the standard Irish 220v, so bring along your I pods, etc. For the film buff, relax and enjoy a selection from our more than 30 Irish Films on DVD. From the spacious kitchen to the warm inviting living room, every room is large and comfortable.
The Master Bedroom is en suite with a King bed and walk-in closet. All bedrooms are fitted with ultra plush US mattresses. The Extra large Double Bedroom has 2 Queen beds, Two additional Bedrooms host a Queen & Single bed in each. There are 2 more bathrooms with tub and shower units as well as a large utility room w/washer and dryer. Good water pressure throughout the home.
Cartronbower boreen serves as a walking route to many of the locals because its peaceful and rarely traveled. Wander down its winding path and you're likely to encounter horses, donkeys and lately 2 alpacas in the surrounding fields, each known to enjoy a carrot or apple from a friendly passerby.
In early Spring, the fields are alive with the sights and sounds of baby lambs, a vision to behold for children and adults alike. A portion of the front garden is a soccer/Gaelic football field complete with 2 netted goals. Additionally, there's a paved area for basketball with 2 backboards, child's swing set, and a patio complete with furniture and BBQ Grill.

Lovely location and great rental property.

This is a large and comfortable home a short drive from Westport and the village of Cong. We enjoyed exploring the area. We took a fabulous bike ride along the Greenway trail and went to the Ballintubber Abbey that’s just down the way, as well as Ashford castle for tea. Marie, the housekeeper who was in charge, was super friendly and helpful, leaving us flowers and checking in a couple of times to make sure things were going well. One of the nice things about the house is that there is a view of Croagh Patrick from the sliding door window in the kitchen we could see the pilgrim trail in the distance. There’s also a great looking swing set for those with kids.

The house was perfect. It is very "Americanized" which was a huge plus for us. We traveled with my 94 year old mom and she had no problem navigating around the house. It was big but warm and cozy. We utilized the kitchen the most. Sitting around the big round table drinking tea looking at beautiful views (we also saw the Northern Lights) from the glass Kitchen doors. Marie the property care taker was so helpful and kind. She checked in on us and made sure we had everything we needed. She was a text/phone call away if we needed her. This property is a gem. 100% recommend everyone to book it.

We absolutely loved our stay at this home in Ireland! It was incredibly cozy and cute with an amazing view of the Irish countryside. We felt so relaxed every morning waking up here. I can't recommend this place enough!

I can't recommend this home enough for anyone seeking a peaceful and comfortable retreat in the West of Ireland!
We used it as a base to explore Westport and Castlebar towns along with some sights along the Wild Atlantic Way. The convenience of being close to these towns while still enjoying the tranquility of the countryside was hard to beat.
The home is warm and clean. The kitchen is especially cozy and has everything you could need to make a lovely breakfast or dinner.
The gorgeous views of Croagh Patrick, especially on clear days, added an extra layer of magic to our experience. Enjoying my morning coffee on the porch swing while taking in the stunning scenery was a daily ritual that I looked forward to. The sheep and donkeys in the nearby fields were an added bonus!
Thank you for having us! We look forward to our next trip!

Truly enjoyed our stay in this lovely Ballintubber home. The property was spacious yet cozy, tucked away down a charming road. We were enamored by the unobstructed views of Crough Patrick and slept comfortably in the massive beds. Hard to find an accommodation like this in neighboring towns, would happily stay again!!

We loved the house, particularly the eat-in kitchen and the farm land on all sides of the property. Our party was two adult couples and we had more than enough room to spread out and relax. Special thank you to Marie, the local property contact, who helped guide us on getting a replacement tire in town after a blowout on our rental car.

My family and friends stayed here for 2 weeks. It’s about a 3 hour drive from Dublin airport and was centrally located for where we wanted to go visit. The house is great. There are 4 bedrooms, one has a king size bed and it’s own bathroom. The other bedrooms are 2 separate beds and there are also 2 unattached bathrooms for them as well. The property is well maintained, down a long entry driveway to the house. You can see sheep in the next field and the road to and around the house has several roads you can walk and explore, also pick and eat wild blackberries which are everywhere. We even made a syrup to pour over fresh vanilla ice cream which was excellent. The house is somewhat americanized in that there aren’t tiny rooms, such as you find in Europe. The full sized kitchen was used frequently for the 6 of us to cook local food from the Tessco in Castlebar. We also used the grill on the back patio area to grill up some fresh lamb chops, steaks and chicken. The back patio area has a picnic table, outdoor chairs and a 2 person swing. We spent a bunch of time back there enjoying some fresh pints, wine and looking at Croagh Patrick mountain. The scenery is beautiful and only occasionally the local families were running their tractors on the road near the house for field work and we loved watching them. Just use caution when walking around as the roads are small and visibility around some turns is minimal. Overall, this house was amazing and Marie helped us so much. We loved it!

I booked this fabulous and spacious property to enable the bringing together of my wider family as part of a long awaited visit to my homeland, Ireland.
We loved the peace of the location, coupled with the easy access to explore nearby coastline.
Everyone loved their stay, the old and the young!
Thanks :)

Teach ma chroi is a charming and well-appointed home. All the rooms were on one floor and that was great. A quiet, idyllic location is surrounded by trees and animals. It is quite a ways from any town. There was really nothing in the house that we needed and didn't find. I wish we had known that Catronbower was the name of the street/road, it would have made it easier to find but once we figured out the Eircode it made it easier. Also, I would stay for a few hours at the hotel at the airport (Shannon) and get some sleep before driving in the dark. We got to the Cliffs of Moher before they opened and could get anything to eat. It was a long day. Also, get in touch with the property manager and let her know your plans, it was difficult to get in touch when we were there by phone. Maura was very nice and helpful. All in all we had a great time and enjoyed the views of Croagh Patrick .

Absolutely the best property in the West of Ireland. A warm and cozy property well worth your attention. If you’ve ever been to Ireland, you’ll understand the importance of a warm, cozy house. Teach Mo Chroi’ is exactly what you’re looking for. From booking through check out everything was perfect. More room than you could ever need. Both US(110) and EU(220) power will fulfill all your needs. 3 full bathrooms will ensure no waiting for the facilities when needed. Can’t wait to return!!!

Lovely location well stocked but much of the furniture tired and uncomfortable ( not beds) need upgrading. Local hostess very helpful! Would not have booked had we known of drainage issues…odour and bowl emptying issues in one bathroom. Having said all of that…we had a lovely stay and the grandchildren loved garden and local area…feeding the local donkeys carrots on a regular basis!

This property was everything we could have asked for. It was very close to Castlebar and about 30 minutes for Westport. The owner was very thorough in her instructions and she seemed to anticipate any issues or questions we would encounter. Her local housekeeper was wonderful and answered any questions we had. This property was an absolute deal and when we go to Ireland again, we plan to stay there again!!! I highly recommend it.

Our family attended a wedding July 22nd at Breaffy House Resort. We were lucky to find Teach Mo Chroi’. Lovely home not far from Castlebar. Traveling from the US, it was great the house had US outlets in addition to Irish. This made using our electronics much easier. This home has everything will need to have a great vacation in Ireland. Highly recommend this home to anyone traveling to Ireland.

Teach Mo Chroi served as a beautiful, serene sanctuary for my family of 9 to create a home base while exploring the west of Ireland. The home was beautiful and spacious; allowing time together and moments alone, when needed. The spacious and well equipped kitchen was our gathering space for meals cooked together and game night with snacks. The views from every room drew you outdoors to take in the sights, sounds, and scents that create the mystical, magical world called Ireland. I can’t say enough about Karla (owner) and Maura (caregiver) and how responsive they were to our questions and needs during our stay. We did not want for anything!
If you are looking for a home away from home, particularly from the US, take comfort in knowing this house has a large capacity washer/dryer and the convenience of 110v outlets for electronics. We stayed for 2 weeks and wish we could have stayed longer. We look forward to coming back as soon as we can!

This property is beautifully maintained with plenty of towels, bed linen, a spacious, well equipped kitchen and a superb utility room in which to dry our wet Walking clothes.
The underfloor heating kept the property warm and very cosy. The bedrooms were all of an excellent size and very comfortable.
The back yard and large garden were kitted out with seating, football nets, basketball hoop and afforded great views of Crook Patrick and the setting sun.
It was with heavy hearts that we left this comfortable and exceptionally clean property.

We stayed at this property in July 2021 and it was a very enjoyable experience. The accommodation is better than a 5 star hotel, all the bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen were faultless. We loved the outdoor space and gardens and the wifi was excellent too. Could not recommend it highly enough. A totally lovely holiday.

The house was everything and more than what we expected. It was spotlessly clean and much bigger than we thought. Great for families

Just back from spending 4 nights in this beautiful home with my family. The house is spacious to adequately accommodate our party of 12. The house provided plenty of outside space for the kids to tire themselves out. Really made use of the football nets, the basketball hoop and the swings. House is immaculate and fully equipped with plenty of linen, towels, kitchen utensils, household amenities, books, games and even has an extensive DVD library.
Karla is a wonderful host. I had a few queries to ask before our trip and Karla was extremely helpful, accommodating and very timely with her responses.
Would definitely recommend to other family and friends to consider this home as a place to stay to unwind and relax and from which to explore this beautiful part of the world.
We definitely made memories in Teach Mo Chroi. Only downside....... we didn't want to go home.

Excellent location, excellent facilities, comfortable and spacious while remaining cozy. The view of Croagh Patrick was great (when not overcast and there were many rainbows. We hope to go back again.

We loved staying here. Out in the country, but not too far from the city.

My family and I had a wonderful time in this beautiful home. Karla and Maura couldn’t have been more helpful, the thought and effort Karla puts into her guests comfort is impressive. The location is ideal for sightseeing, but save a day to enjoy the house and it’s beautiful surroundings. Highly recommend.

I chose this home because of it's location near relatives. It worked out perfectly! We were met in town by Maura & she led us to the house to give us a brief but thorough orientation. She took the time to give us some ideas of activities in the area. She was very welcoming! The house was warm & inviting. Very comfortable for 10 adults. It had touches of Ireland & America! No need for converters, large washer/dryer, hot water for everyone, large kitchen for everybody to gather. We were there during the Gaelic Football playoffs so my cousins 12 year old son was able to show us his skill & teach my kids how to play in the front yard. Great memories for everyone! I have already recommended this home to my family for an Ireland trip next year. Thank you for opening up your home to us! It was lovely! 😊 Trish C. (Channahon, IL)

Teach mo Chroi was the perfect home base for exploring Mayo and Galway. Our family of 7 (ranging in age from 9 to mid 70s) loved the spaciousness of the home; we never felt cramped and appreciated that everything was on one floor. The kitchen was perfectly equipped with everything we needed for meals in and we enjoyed sitting out back taking in the beautiful view of Croagh Patrick (which 3 of us managed to hike to the summit of!) The children loved the large yard and feeding the nearby donkeys each day. The duel current in the home was an added bonus as was the large laundry room. During our stay we were able to visit Knock Shrine, Westport, Louisburgh, Leenaun, and Cong, along with Kylemore and Ballintubber Abbeys. All were an easy drive away. We also visited Ireland's School of Falconry at Ashford Castle and Joyce Country Sheepdogs in Connemara, both of which were favorites with the entire family. If ever our travels bring us back to the beautiful west of Ireland, we will surely return to this lovely home. Thank you, Karla!

Our family group of 12, including 5 children under 12 years of age, had sufficient room because of the lay-out. The property was clean, well-maintained, and very nicely furnished, and we had no issues with anything. The soccer field and basketball hoops were perfect for the kids [the soccer ball could not be inflated, but we had our own, so this was minor]. The local manager was very friendly and helpful.
We definitely would recommend this property to friends who have families. The location was suitable for daily excursions in the region, and we were lucky: we never met anyone on the one-lane boreen!

My father and I rented this home for the second time, we stayed there two years ago. It felt just like coming home since we were already familiar with the wonderful features of the house. My father requires handicapped accessibility and this home provided that as well as plenty of room for my cousins who live in Ireland and Wales to come and stay with us. The kitchen is nice and large, and I was able to make several meals for our local family. One of the most convenient features is the ability to use our medical equipment and charge my phone without having to use an adapter.
The house is always nice and clean and the window boxes were beautiful. We are looking forward to our next trip in 2019 and are planning to stay here again!

Read all the reviews, with few exceptions, they are 5 Star with glowing remarks about the Property, Location and Amenities. These evaluations played a large part in out decision. They are all true. There were five adults who spent three nights, May 14 - 16, 2017.This is a wonderful home, well furnished and very comfortable. The house is immaculate-clean, well appointed with good views of the countryside. The beds are outstanding, very comfortable and the bathrooms are modern and up to date. The kitchen has all that you need to prepare whatever kind of meal you desire. The caretaker met us at the door and the check in was very easy. She was helpful in getting us acclimated. The location is great. Close to both Westport and Castlebar. We made a one-day trip to South County Donegal, including towns of Donegal and Ardara. We also explored County Mayo including Connemara. All of this is within an easy days round-trip from this location. It was wonderful to return to such a first rate place to relax, unwind enjoy the privacy and views of the country side and get a great nights sleep. The price is all inclusive, no extra's or surprises. Would highly recommend.

This pretty, comfortable and well-equipped country house provided an excellent home base for us to explore County Mayo. The location is fabulous; the view off the back deck was divine, especially at sunset with the birdsong, fresh air, view of Croagh Patrick, and lambs bleating nearby. Our party of six slept comfortably and well; the bathrooms were modern and well-designed and the kitchen was perfect for cooking. The home is within driving distance of many popular and interesting places to visit, and we had a great time exploring the countryside by car and walking the local lanes around the home. The owner is warm, friendly, and responsive, and even went out of her way to help us connect with lost family. This was one of our most enjoyable and memorable vacations ever, and we can't wait to come back!

We stayed at Teach mo Chroi – Home of My Heart – cottage for a week this September and it was the perfect place for our group. From the gate, emerald green lawn, and flower-filled window boxes to the spacious interior, it is a lovely place, had everything we needed. It was very comfortable for our group of seven people. We enjoy gathering for meals and the large kitchen worked well for us. It was equipped with everything we needed and had a large round table where we ended up spending a lot of time. From the kitchen there is a view that includes what I think was Croagh Patrick, the mountain on the coast. We had cars, so the location in Ballintubber, not far from the bustling town of Westport, was very good for our day trips to Kylemore, Achill Island, Ballintubber Abbey, and excursions to Westport for dining and shopping. There is a large collection of DVDs and CDs (which we used), a library, and some sports equipment (which we did not use). The house was very clean, well-decorated and well-furnished.
I came to Ireland earlier than the rest of the group and had corresponded with Karla, one of the cottage owners, about things to see and do near the cottage, in the towns along the West Coast of Ireland and even transportation options from the airport. She is a wealth of information and gave me great advice that helped make my travels really special; I had my own personal travel planner! This was a great place for me and my group of friends; we settled right in as if it were our home.

This is a large, well appointed house with lots of open space around it. Despite the rural setting, it is very close to all the facilities in Castlebar and Westport (about 15 min). It is also well centred for visiting all the tourist sights in the Galway-Mayo region. Although we were just two couples, there is plenty of room for more people or a large family. The kitchen is spacious for meal preparation and for eating. There is also excellent dining and hospitality at the nearby hotel opposite the Ballintubber Abbey. Highly recommended - I wished we could have stayed longer.

A perfect home away from home for our three generations. 8 and 12 year old boys, and the 49 year old played soccer in the yard, 4 climbed Crough Patrick, we explored Westport and Castlebar and the Abby and the seaside and 5,000 year old sites, and then returned to our lovely home away from home. House was warm and friendly, clean, comfortable and well equipped. Great to have the washer and dryer and WIFI and all that anyone needed in the way of kitchen equipment. From the beautiful flower boxes to the most comfortable beds, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
