About this house rental
Gorgeous lakefront home nestled on 2.2 very private acres. With over 250 feet of frontage on Toddy Pond, the house sits 75 feet from the water, atop a small rise, providing a lovely view of the lake through the trees. Toddy Pond is one of the most desirable lakes in downeast Maine. The charming oceanfront town of Blue Hill is only 15 minutes away, with Acadia and Bar Harbor about a 45 minute drive.
This year-round home is well appointed, with a gourmet kitchen, luxury master suite, and maple floors throughout. The living, dining, and kitchen areas share an open floor plan, anchored by a massive granite fireplace, providing a very spacious feel, even for larger groups. A spectacular arched window casts a sunny disposition in the living area throughout the day.
The following are actual recent guest comments:
'Your house is a first class act. We loved it.'
'…we couldn't have asked for a more perfectly appointed and relaxing home for our vacation.'
Great Lakefront Getaway! Toddy Pond is the perfect lake for a Maine getaway. Eight miles long, but only half a mile or so wide, it has three distinct sections, and many rock outcroppings, making it the choice for those looking for a quieter alternative to other area lakes. (It’s not conducive to large pleasure boats, due to large boulders lurking just beneath the surface.) The home is located on the western shore of the middle section. So if you are looking for a place of solitude to relax, swim, fish, and canoe, but with the convenience of nearby attractions, this is the place for you.
Very centrally located. In addition to the traditional Bar Harbor and Acadia area, Castine, Blue Hill, Deer Isle, and Stonington are all lovely trips a short distance from the home.

We enjoyed our stay at Loon Cove tremendously. The house was beautiful, bright and well-maintained. We had six adults and a two-year old and there was plenty of room for everyone and plenty to do. Kayaks, bicycles, fishing poles, table tennis, board games, books, fully stocked kitchen, tons of towels, blankets, etc. Access to the lake was easy and the weather was great. We would certainly consider visiting again.

This house was the perfect spot for our annual summer lake trip. Plenty of bedrooms and configurations to comfortably sleep everyone and lots of fantastic common area space. Super comfortable living room (lots of cozy seating), spacious kitchen, and a giant dining table (though we ate most meals on the outdoor deck overlooking the lake). We loved being able to send the kids outside or to the basement to play. Toddy Pond is magical, and this house and space made it all the more so. We hope to return for future trips.

This is our second stay at Toddy Pond, and it was just as wonderful as the first time! Love the house and the view! Great space for our family of ten! Our only wish is for a third bathroom. Love being able to canoe from the dock and Acadia hiking during our week there.
We recommend the Searsport Maritime Museum and the beach park across the street, Fort Knox, and the Penobscot Bridge Observatory, Castine, and Bar Harbor visits, all within reach of this lovely house. Hoping for a return visit.

Probably the highlight of the property was that we heard the loons often.
Pros: This is a nice house and is aesthetically pleasing. The check in was very easy. We’ve stayed in several VRBOs and this one was by far the best stocked with supplies. We really appreciated this. The property was incredibly quiet. The neighbors are spaced to give privacy.
Con’s: although the furniture looked nice, there was not one piece of furniture that was comfortable to sit on. The sofas and loveseat are incredibly soft with zero support. When you sit you sink. This was not pleasant for our backs. So it was hard to find a spot that we could get comfy in to read or watch tv.
Also, although it probably was just bad luck for us, the a/c unit in the primary bedroom was not working (heat pump issue I believe). There was a window unit that worked but it was incredibly loud and not up to the overall standard we were expecting. The primary shower is probably past its prime, the door would stick and it was hard to open, also had stains that come from age (along the door), not horrible, but not the standard we were expecting. One last thing…the dock. Perhaps it’s a drought year in the area but the dock was not long enough or needed steps into the water. It was difficult to get in and out of the water to swim. You had to ease yourself off the one step onto some very large and slippery rocks. I cannot imagine how children would be able to navigate this. Again, perhaps the water line is usually higher.

Great place to stay, plenty of room for our family. We did not use the lake as we intended because it was not easy to get down to the water.

Beautiful, spacious house. More than enough room for our group of 2 grandparents, 2 adults and 2 teens. Very relaxing with amazing views of the lake. Host was very responsive when we needed to reach out.

This was our second time staying here and it was just as relaxing as the first. Went hiking and visited Ellsworth during the day, sat by the beautiful fireplace at night playing games with the family. The location is so remote and quiet you really feel like you're leaving the world behind. Highly recommend.

Really nice. We were there for only three night. Would go back with our extended family for much longer. This place has it all.

We had a lovely stay at loon cove. Our kids made wonderful summer memories swimming off the dock and catching frogs. We loved the view of the lake from the master and listening to the loons in the evening. The house was spotless and very well equipped, including fishing gear, 2 bikes and countless lifejackets. Football and ping pong in the basement are a blast and the play kitchen down there was great for our littlest. Speaking of kitchens, the kitchen was extremely well equipped. (There is a drip machine and a keurig for anyone wondering what form of coffee to bring). This was the perfect weekend to cap off the summer, and look forward to another chance to stay here.

Thumbs up for this one! Our family had a wonderful time at Toddy Pond. We loved the house location, size, and amenities. We rented canoes and thoroughly enjoyed the lake. We were within reach of Bar Harbor and Acadia and enjoyed hiking there. We enjoyed a visit to the Penobscot bridge observatory and Fort Knox. Groceries were conveniently nearby. We all would love a return visit!

Clean, private location and a good location to Acadia & Bar Harbor. Large family table, kitchen well stocked and use of fishing poles.
Should consider replacement of Gas Grill & Mattresses.

Loon Cove was the perfect retreat for our family. We stayed at Loon Cove during the last week in March and it could not have more tranquil or relaxing. Toddy Pond was frozen and the property was snow covered, making the days quiet and bright with the early Spring sunshine. The house itself was perfectly clean, very well maintained and well stocked with everything we could ask for, especially the kitchen, where we found the widest array of quality kitchen implements that we have ever seen in a vacation rental. We used the grill for dinners, and made a fire in the large fireplace each evening. We drove to Acadia for a day of hiking, and found it to be an easy 60 minute ride away. We were also impressed with the quality provisions available a short distance away at the Blue Hill Co-Op Market. Overall, Loon Cove is a spectacular property, and we would gladly visit again any time of year.

Loved this property! Even better than advertised. A super quiet remote spot. Pond was frozen so we skated for miles, warmed up by the fireplace at night. Great kitchen for cooking family meals. Day trips to Acadia National Park and Ellsworth. Perfect.

This was such a great place to stay! It has a well stocked kitchen to cook in. There are plenty of movies and games available. Pretty clean all around. Lots of separate places, it's a good place for a large group. We wish we would have more time to stay, but enjoyed it while we were there.

My family and I enjoyed staying here for three nights in mid-September. My toddlers loved the jungle themed room, and my spouse and I found the master bedroom to be spacious and comfortable. Kitchen was well stocked, and my kids enjoyed the many children's books on the bookshelf. Lovely location on the lake. True to it's name, we did hear loons call on Loon Cove- as well as a Barred Owl.

We had a great week in Maine. Fabulous house on the water.
Toddy Pond is a bit off the well beaten track, which is just what we were looking for. You could visit Bar Harbor and Acadia from here, but we preferred the quainter towns of Blue Hill, Castine, Deer Isle and Stonington. Great hikes nearby. Lots of kayaking. Played some tennis in Blue Hill.
Mostly we had lots of family time in a great, spacious house.

We are 2 adult families who were very much in need of a quiet, fun, family vacation. Loon Cove did not disappoint. The house was clean, and had everything we could need. We took a few day trips to Bar Harbor and hiked Acadia, but otherwise, enjoyed most of out time on the lake just doing lake stuff!! We will definitely be back. Be sure to rent any desired kayaks or canoes ahead of time as they're a necessity.

A family reunion to celebrate our patriarch’s 80th birthday brought us all to the The Blue Hill region in a couple of different locations. This big well appointed house was the perfect location for a family with young adults. Great swimming in Toddy Pond, fabulous sunsets, lots of fun outdoor activities. Wonderful week in a terrific setting!

Our family of 4 enjoyed a wonderful week here. The house was so clean and well-stocked with everything we needed. Kids loved the ping pong table when not outside. Lake was very peaceful and we enjoyed a rented kayak, swimming, and fishing. Our outings included Acadia, Fort Knox, Blue Hill, and Castine but most of the time we just played and relaxed by the lake.

Relaxin week
We had a wonderful week at Loon Cove. Spent many hours on both decks, enjoying the view and the weather. As listed, beach towels were available. Bikes were available to use, but our group did not want to ride on a gravel road. We appreciated all the literature about local places. The house was plenty big for 7 adults and we could spread out. We were alerted to the awkward bathroom situation, and we made the best of it. We are all big cooks, and can honestly say this kitchen was extremely well stocked. We loved that Toddy Pond is quiet without a lot of boat noise. Oh - and the loons! What a wonderful sound!

Wonderful trip to Maine
Beautiful location with great opportunity for swimming, fishing, kayaking and canoeing. Loons and Geese pass by the dock at sunrise every morning Great location to get to all Acacia and Bar Harbor day trips. Thanks for a great week.

Maine Family Vacation
My kids and grandkids enjoyed a week at Loon Lake. The house was clean and the common spaces were a delight. Across to the lake was wonderful. We ended up renting kayaks for the week and enjoyed using them to explore the lake. The bathroom situation is awkward, but workable.

Awesome Secluded Getaway
The property was comfortable with plenty of bedrooms and great "hang-out" spaces for everyone. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed and more. There are also plenty of games and puzzles and apparently DirecTV, though I don't think we turned it on. The fireplace is spectacular. The location is very central for the Downeast area, with easy trips to Castine, Belfast, Bangor and Bar Harbor/Acadia. Grocery stores in Bucksport and Blue Hill were 15-20 minutes. We visited in the dead of winter and had a pretty good snow storm with 12+ inches one day and the roads, even the unpaved section leading to the property, were well maintained and easily passable with 4-wheel drive and an SUV. The property wasn't the cheapest of those we considered for this trip, but provided great value given the amenities and comfortable vibe.

Would absolutely return!
Loon Cove is a beautiful stay. We arrived in the evening, and woke up in the morning to the breathtaking view. The house was *fully equipped* for guests with plenty of supplies and a nice big kitchen. The house was also clean, well maintained, and so spacious for our big crew. You can tell it is so loved and cared for!

Toddy Pond
Property & lakefront were beautiful but it was in a difficult location with roughly 1 mile of unpaved roads. Living area including kitchen were fabulous but extra bedrooms could use updating. WiFi was not optimal.

Quiet spot on Toddy Pond
We’ve stayed on Toddy for several years but this was our first time at Loon Cove. This is a great house, and well laid out for most typical family groups. We’re an unusual extended family group: only one couple with 2 grown kids, plus my husband’s 2 brothers, one single and one also with 2 (almost grown) kids, so not everything here worked well for us, BUT I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to, say, two or three couples or other situations where guests can make full use of the king and queen bedrooms. The two adult brothers each need their own beds (double or larger), and three of the four grown kids are tall enough that twin beds are ok but can be a little confining. The cousins (aged 17 - 24) also like to hang out in the same space, and enjoy it when they can bunk up in the same room as well. The basement game room here was really fun for them and the sleeping accommodations worked out fine; they just weren’t optimal for our situation. The beds were comfy in all the bedrooms. The daybed downstairs squeaked a lot and wasn’t conducive to a good night of sleep for a 21-year old, but most families probably won’t need to use it! The living and dining rooms were spacious and perfect for our bunch. The kitchen had a funky layout but it was well equipped and accommodated cooking for eight-plus people (we also have another family member in the area who didn’t stay with us but who visited and ate dinner with us daily). The owner, Dan, and caretaker, Donnie, were great and very responsive to questions and the one minor issue we had (when we arrived we found the walkout basement/game room extremely musty and the dehumidifier had a sign in it not to use it because it leaked. We toughed it out for a day or two but the mustiness was hard on one of the nephews who suffers from allergies but wanted to be able to hang out with his cousins playing ping pong and foosball. This was also one reason we didn’t end up using the inflatable mattresses for the cousins to all bunk up together down there.) When I called Donnie to see if he could look into the dehumidifier issue, he was there within an hour or two to address the it and had the dehumidifier running again in a jiffy. The dock was spacious and a great spot to gather (when the weather cooperated!!) Our previous rental had a covered screened porch so we did miss that, as well as the ability to dive off the dock but we got used to wading in around the rocks for swimming on the nice days. Good fishing spot!

Loon Cove Vacation
This is a spacious, very well equipped home. Great for relaxed vacation with three generation family ( we had 10 people, parents, two adult children and their families). Everyone had a great time with the 2 kayaks and canoe that we rented and were dropped at the property and picked up at the end of the week ( very easy). There were plenty of tubes for floating on the pond. A good time was had by all. We very much enjoyed the packet of information the owner sent us prior to arriving including directions and information on surrounding towns and restaurants. We had a great time exploring the area. The only reason for the 4 stars was the beds. None of them were comfortable and should be replaced. Otherwise it is a great place to vacation.
