Warm, comfortable, clean
It’s a 15 minute walk
From the station (just need to manage large luggage especially if there’s snow).

The facility and room were so very clean. Their onsen is amazing; we thoroughly enjoyed our time using it. Wonderful bath products and robes. Very comfortable beds. This was a wonderful place to stay after a long day of travel.
Nothing.

The hotel was very nice with lots of traditional features. The room was big and clean. The staff was very helpful and friendly.

The staff were very friendly. The breakfast was excellent and so was the onsen and the decor was superb..
The rooms are throwback to the 80s. Everything about the hotel was very stylish until entering the bedroom where the carpet and bed covers were very old fashioned. The washroom had turquoise basins.

Staff were extremely helpful. The room was comfortable and overall a very good stay.
Our room didn't end up coming with a shower, and when we arrived we realized the only shower option for us was a communal shower by the onsen. Just something to bear in mind before getting a surprise there!

Different options of room settings
The Onsen don't have people to clean, floor a bit slippery

Staff were the best! Location, cleanliness and good breakfast.

The best staff interaction of our trip. Each time we returned the staff were genuinely interested in ensuring we got the most from their town. Always a smile and little tips on bars, highlights and the quirky side to Kiso Fukushima.

Great location in the town of Fukushima. Wonderful staff and great onsen

The entrance was grand but the room a little let down. It was to fit 5 futons, spacious but nothing compared to the grandeur at entrance. Love the reception area and lounge area.
Traditional Japanese Room is quite dated. Futon cover quite flimsy. Onsen not as nice as expected from photos. Instructions for onsen use could add “ …… after soaking in onsen to shower and rinse off with soap”. I developed rashes immediately after soaking in onsen for ten minutes, and ran off to shower again.

Good size room (Japanese style), tea and coffee facilities downstairs were lovely
Having the onsen be the only shared bathroom (no shower or bathing in any of the shared toilets) was unexpected and not well communicated on the site. Both of us staying have tattoos and were not planning on using the onsen facilities to avoid any potential issues with tattoos not being welcome (this is also not well advertised) but we were forced to make use of the onsen to shower after a long day hiking. The lack of any private shower facilities at all is not presented clearly enough on the ad.
The booked meal is close to 8000 yen. Whilst it was very enjoyable, it was VERY overpriced and the cost was not advertised anywhere that we saw so it came as a surprise when we checked out and saw our bill.

The staff especially Mase were friendly and helpful.

A typical old Japanese onsen ryokan. Stayed in the cheapest room which was western style with shared toilet. Toilets were clean with enough amenities. The same goes for the communal bath. There was an air-con, fridge, TV, electric kettle, a small table, towels, and toothbrush set in the room. Yukata was free of charge at the reception area.
Staff was polite and spoke English. There was a free tea and coffee self service next to the reception.
A decent stay for one night.
The room I stayed in was old and tired looking. Probably time for renovation, especially wallpaper and carpet.

Very nice lobby, free teas and lovely outdoor bath
The bath could have been hotter

Onyado Tsutaya is close to a Ryokan regarding service; the staff is super attentive and helpful, the entrance is quite charming and the public bath is nice. I selected the cheapest room but the window faced towards the river, which I consider a plus.
Food was good, just a tad under Ryokan quality and flavour, but plentiful.
The location is OK, 12min away from the station, but the city is not that big anyways.
There are two parking spots in front of the building.
The room is a bit dated as seen in the pictures, but I hated that the bedclothes are not fitted so the whole bed came undone immediately. The duvet with skirt also fell out of the bed, taking the sheets with it.
On top of that, the mattress is extremely soft, I felt like I sunk 20cm on it. I rested pretty bad overall.

Good location with walkable access to restaurants. Nice river and city view. Excellent helpful staff who do their best with speaking English to foreigners. Parking spots in front of the building were helpful. Interesting history as a historic business along the nakasendo.
While the location and staff were great, unfortunately the western style room beds were very old and dirty with very visible discoloration and stains. Very outdated bedding which exposed the sides of the mattresses so all the wear and tear is visible. It would not cost much to update these small details to add more comfort. There were many spots with dust including the hanging light fixture in the room. The outdoor hotspring was nice, but the indoor bath wood walls and ceiling look to be stained with possibly mold and questionable for sanitation. We stayed at a different Onyado location that was wonderful so we were surprised this hotel was quite on the opposite spectrum. Much can be improved with little effort.

Book the simple western style single room and enjoy this hotels onsen facilities without the usual expense of a ryokan (not the same experience tho) The room is quite small but ok for 1 or 2 nights. Location is excellent. They provide a great hand drawn map with eating, drinking & sightseeing recommendations. One staff member speaks excellent English

Wonderful entrance area and the staff were so friendly. We stayed during the off peak time so it was not at all busy. Lovely touch to have tea available at any time to enjoy in the lobby area.
The bathhouse needs some renovation. There is peeling paint and what looks like mould on some areas. It just needs to be freshened up.
The western rooms were very small. Next time I will stay in the Japanese style rooms.
