I always dreamed to travel like a Japanese in a hot spring town, so I was very happy that my dream came true in Kofugan. I love most was the tatami room with splendid view of the myoko mountain. the hot spring was just as good as I expected.
the location was a little bit far from the train statin myoko if you come by the train. But it seems that the pick up can be arranged. I would suggest to contact the owner and ask them to pick up on advance.

Homely Japanese atmosphere, beautiful food
Disappointed the outdoor onsen was closed.

A traditional ryokan with great service and delicious meals. We stayed for three nights and we had different variety for every meal. They picked us up from the train station and shuttled us to the ski slopes. The owners are very friendly and gracious.

nothing. everything was perfect.

it was cheap.
typical old ryokan with dusty, stinky rooms, cracking walls, 1950’s furniture and zero comfort. Beds were sunken and I booked for 3 nights for work, lasted 1 night. simply terrible and this type of complacent ‘old’ Japanese inn only hurts tourism standards. avoid!!

They made customized japanese style Vegetarian Dinner and Breakfast for us which was a pleasant suprise!
The Onsen although not so big, was perfect for us, and was never crowded! This Ryokan has a lot of history and is set up in a way to take you back a few decades in a good way!

We didn’t know that there were no toilets in the room (usually there always are private toilets even if there is no private bathroom). So it was pretty uncomfortable to go out into the very cold corridor to use the shared toilet.

Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. Thoughtful meal planning with local and in season ingredients. Well worth the nominal extra fee. Onsen had both indoor and outdoor areas. Soap, shampoo, conditioner all provided. Also hair dryers, razors, toothbrush, and shower caps. Staff was friendly and very accomodating.
This is an older building with obvious signs of aging. However the facility is clean and it's apparent the owners take pride in their business. The WiFi was not the best but it worked enough. I would not count on it for work related business. Overall, we were very happy with our choice for lodging.

Everyone was very friendly. Shuttle to the resort was very convenient for snowboarding. Room was clean and comfortable. Food and onsen were fantastic.
Location is a little far from the slopes which leaves you dependent on the shuttle.

Great location for skiing or hiking in the area. The hotel stands on the edge of a valley which provides great views from the outdoor baths. Price value is also great.

Kofukan had an extremely relaxing atmosphere as soon as you step through the entrance, the room was lovely and had a great view of the mountain. The staff are kind and helpful. The Onsen was beautiful and relaxing - it was my first Onsen experience which I was pleasantly surprised with. The location was good being so close to Myokokogen Station. I tried both the Japanese and Western style breakfast - both were great!
I made the mistake of not realizing restaurants would be shut on a Sunday, if I had known this I would have booked ahead for dinner at Kofukan which required advanced booking.

The onsen was fabulous. We liked the indoor and outdoor options. Private onsen available for reservation for an extra fee. Breakfast was outstanding, they had a more western style breakfast for my children. Coffee available upon request for an extra fee and was delicious. Tea set and hot water maker was in our room to have tea in the mornings. View from our room was pretty! The staff was super friendly and helpful. And spoke enough English as well!
Furnishings seemed dated. The private bathroom in our room was incredibly cold. Some peeling wallpaper in bathroom.

Good dinner and breakfast, within walking distance from the train station, rather cozy room with mountain view. Simple yet nice onsen and rotenburo experience (shared and private pools). Gas heater in the room.
Free shuttle bus to and from the nearby ski resort was a great deal.

Very nice dinner. Comfortable hot springs
Cold water wasn’t working well in woman’s shower area.
