The Old Pumphouse is a stunning property, full of quirky features, cosy touches, and with stunning scenery to boot. The outside area is really magical: a garden with waterfalls and quiet corners that made for a perfect spot to unwind after exploring the countryside. The accommodation has everything you need for a comfortable stay: stove, plush bed, sounds of the water outside (and a brilliant shower in the adjoining bathroom). The Roaches are just around the bend for walks aplenty, and we also headed to Titteshall Water for a sunny stroll. Ye Olde Rock Inn serves great hearty pub fare and is another short walk away. Faultless for a weekend away from the hustle and bustle: we’ll definitely be back.

This was my first experience of glamping and I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised. The 'hut' was comfortable, the small double bed very much so, and it maintained a very pleasant temperature without the need for extra heating. The outside toilet and shower room was small but not cramped - the shower was bigger than expected and the water pressure excellent. Hot water was instant throughout. I didn't venture to cook anything on the mini hob or use the wood burner stove/heater.
Hen Cloud and the Roaches are about 2/3rds of a mile away. Churnet Way and other walks pass by the front door. In about twenty minutes you can walk down to Tittesworth Reservoir. The Rock Inn is 100 yards away and serves seriously good beer. The food is pretty good as well. Great pub.
There was nothing to dislike about the accommodation but a couple of things should be noted if planning to arrive by public transport. D&G Buses' timetable says that the 108 bus stops at Upper Hulme, there's even a bus stop marked on Google Earth. Don't believe either of these. There are no bus stops there and the locals told me that the nearest is at the bottom of the hill at the Three Horseshoes - about a mile down hill along the busy A53. Not a huge distance, but the climb back up is not to be sniffed at with a heavy load. As far as I'm aware, there are no shops or anywhere to buy provisions outside of Leek. The Rock Inn doesn't open on Mondays and most Tuesdays, so arriving by public transports needs to be carefully planned. A taxi from Buxton will be about £30.

I so enjoyed staying in this Shepherd's Hut, so we'll appointed and thoughtfully decorated
The ornaments in a glass cupboard instantly made me feel at home
The cooking equipment worked really well, hot water is instantly available and scrambled eggs cooked on the stove were light & fluffy. Well equipped kitchen with everything I needed. (Great shower outside as well)
I slept so well in this cozy Shepard's Hut, so glad we booked. Lovely space to relax with your partner
Even the rain didn't dampen our mood, such a snug cabin

A very well appointed hut in a beautiful location near a stream/waterfall.
Comfortable and a lot of thought had gone into making the best use of the space available so we never felt we were in a small space. The shower was amazing and hot water system very efficient.
It rained heavily during our stay but we felt warm, dry and secure inside the hut.
Some lovely spots to sit in the garden when sunny!
It was well located for reaching the main road for trips out, a short drive from good parking places for a variety of walks and even more important a stone's throw from an excellent pub.
This didn't spoil our experience at all but, because it rained most of the time for us, a small cover at the front door to offer shelter when you step out would be wonderful.

The quaintness of the place

Great space, very cosy hut with a beautiful scenery close to some good tea rooms/restaurants.
The bed was a little small for the two of us as I'm 6'3 and the lights were very bright but overall great.

I cannot recommend this place enough! A wonderful, comfortable, immaculately clean and well-located stay that really made our long weekend special. You can tell the hosts put a lot of thought, love, and care in to the little details and really thought about what would make the stay better. The caretaker was friendly and helpful. We are already planning our next stay and have recommended it to everyone we know!
No wifi and the phone signal there isn't great. However if you're looking to get away maybe this isn't an issue!

The location was beautiful absolutely stunning

It was super cosy and everything I needed had been thought of. The milk in the fridge was a nice touch too! : ) the location is perfect for walking to the Roaches and the outside space is lovely to enjoy in the evenings. Not to mention the local pub, a minutes walk away and lovely food. I would stay again!

Hut has everything you need and the location is perfect to head out climbing or walking The Roaches. Waterfall next to the garden makes for a very relaxing backdrop.

The atmosphere and feel of the place was lovely.
The shower didn't drain very well

We really enjoyed our stay at the old pumphouse. The pump house is small but there is enough space for a couple and the hosts have done a wonderful job creating a cosy environment inside the accommodation. The garden is stunning and peaceful. We stayed for two nights and could have stayed longer!

Location, it was accessible to Leek and nearby trails such as the Roaches.
The bathroom being in a separate structure and the flooding caused by using the shower.

We loved our cosy stay in the Pumphouse 🙂 The location was perfect - a short walk from Hen Cloud and The Roaches (onto Luds Church) and a short drive to tackle Kinder Scout and explore Stanton Moor! The hut was lovely to come back to after miles of walking to light a fire and play some games.

Location was perfect as we walk the Roaches a few times a year. Pub located 5 mins walk which was brilliant. The shepherds hut was clean and tidy on our arrival. It was stocked well with kitchen appliances including a coffee maker! It was convenient to make breakfast but not a main meal at dinner.
It was next to a water fall and the garden area was lovely even though the weather was too wet to sit outside in the evenings.
We did a good nights sleep as no cats to wake us up!
The shower hut needed attention and upgrading Although the shower was good and water hot. There was a large crack in the shower base and the tiles seemed to be coming off the walls as the grout was missing. The taps were on the wrong way on the sink both in the shower hut and the kitchen sink. I felt the sink was too big for the hut taking up room to dry yourself after the shower.

it was cosy and clean. some things were well thought out like hot water bottles and plates , cups and towels, loved the running water and outside seating area.
layout wasn't great, wood was damp so struggled to keep a fire going. thank goodness we had the electric fire. cupboards on wall held china and figures when it could have been set out better. massive chest with wood and hoover in with broken lid. gas cooker stuck in middle of room and kept bumping into it. cracks in shower base and rusty old bbq which has seen better days. it was all very worn and weathered which I guess had an appeal but I had misread the ad and didn't realise the toilet and shower unit were separate. it was nice for a couple of nights but little things like the salt reading light weee broken and the torches had no charge so felt a bit disappointed.

As lovely as the first time we visited, such a magical place ✨️

Beautiful and cosy, and it snowed while we were there so the views were amazing.

the location was brilliant, so peaceful and beautiful.

A lovely little hut, set in beautiful countryside with lots of nice walks all around. Very peaceful charming accommodation.
Wasn't anything to dislike here, the owners thought of everything. Even down to torches and matches!

location, gardens,cleanliness
possibly if the toilet hut had better access to the Shepards hut

Lovely location, very relaxing stay.

We stayed 3 nights for our minimoon, it's the most magical, quirkiest place to stay.
2 minute walking distance to the pub, food is amazing. The locals are so friendly and welcoming. Great surroundings, just beautiful.
Different seating areas means always a place to sit where it is shady, we went on the hottest days this summer.
Outside toilet house was very quirky and added to the experience, can imagine it's not so great in the rain or cold though.
The fridge was very small but would have been adequate if it had worked. We just bought meat for bbq daily in nearby Leek, it didn't affect us badly.
Definately not recommended if you have any kind of mobility problems
