About this cottage rental
Enjoying a quiet, unspoilt rural location the Swan Hotel, a former 17th century coaching inn has been sympathetically converted into several quality apartments. On the edge of the village of Thornthwaite, within five minutes walking distance of Bassenthwaite Lake and surrounded by delightful scenery it is the ideal location for a relaxing break. Fine walking opportunities abound for all abilities with many walks from the door - from fine tops to valley rambles. A cycle way passes the door with superb cycling links to the rest of the north Lake District. There is excellent sailing and fishing to be enjoyed on Bassenthwaite Lake as well as an abundance of wildlife. The southern tip of the lake has been designated a wildlife sanctuary, and from the nearby hide guests can observe many and varied forms of wildlife on and around the lake. The famous Bassenthwaite Ospreys can frequently be seen flying overhead during the season. Swan House is served by the X5 Penrith-Keswick-Cockermouth-Workington bus service with a bus stop outside the door, enabling guests to explore the area without using their car. There is a good choice of pubs and places to eat in the area and good shopping in the historic market towns of Keswick (3 miles) and Cockermouth (7 miles).
There is ample parking and benefits from large shared grounds with pond, orangery, picnic/barbecue area and decking. Lord's Seat is a fabulous three-bedroomed apartment situated on the first floor and enjoying stunning views to the front and back. The apartment has been completed to a high standard with quality fixtures and fittings.
The property is entered via shared entrance hall and stairs. Entering the hallway there is hanging space and storage for outdoor gear. From here you find the fitted kitchen with fridge, freezer, electric oven and hob, microwave oven, washing machine and tumble dryer. The solid wood Pippy Oak units are of a high quality with granite worktops with small breakfast bar and views to Barf and Whinlatter.
Steps from the kitchen lead to the spacious, bright lounge/dining area with windows to front and back. The lounge has feature fire-place with gas fired stove, TV, DVD, CD with mp3 and i-pod docking station, comfortable leather settees, dining table and chairs.
Each of the three comfortable bedrooms enjoy views to Skiddaw and along the valley to Keswick and the mountains beyond. The master bedroom has king size sleigh bed, TV and en-suite shower room with basin and wc.
The second bedroom has twin beds and the third bedroom has a double bed. All bedrooms will be dressed in luxury linen and towels.
The family bathroom has a large bath with shower over, twin basins and wc and view to Barf.

The property is located in a very peaceful and beautiful location and it is a comfortable and beautiful apartment/flat. The letting agents answer their phones quickly and are very pleasant and helpful to speak with to resolve any questions. We deliberately chose a small, local company through which to find a property and were not disappointed.

Lord's Seat came highly recommended and still managed to exceed our expectations. It is a wonderful space with excellent views from everywhere - including the bathroom! We especially enjoyed sitting in the bay window, enjoying the view - you can just about see the lake from there. The common garden is also beautiful. The accommodation was spotless though it would be nice to have some kind of insect netting on the windows as we found it impossible to open windows in the evening without letting in a host of insects. And in the hot weather we have been having, not being able to open the windows made it a bit stuffy. But this was the only tiny issue in an otherwise exceptional experience staying there. The kitchen is very well equipped, the beds are comfortable and the customer service and instructions were helpful but not intrusive. 5 stars.

The location is amazing, very peaceful and also very convenient for Keswick. The property manager was responsive and easy to communicate with.

Lord's Seat was a great place for our family of 5 during our week in the Lakes. Very clean and comfy flat. Great beds and powerful/hot showers. Well stocked kitchen. Hosts were very easy to contact and responded quickly. Superb location for all of our excursions. I would not hesitate to go back here!

Great place to stay in the lakes. Walks from the door. The apartment had everything for 6 guests, really well presented, home from home.
Nice views from the dining room/lounge and bedrooms.
Only thing I missed is there is no access directly to garden area being on the first floor.

A family of four plus grand parents. We spent a very comfortable weeks stay in the Lords Seat. Very well equipped and in a location that suited us very well, and with easy parking. Keswick is nearby for any essentials you may require. Costs were a little hign. We however stayed an extra night that was offered at reduced rate. On a personal note, I would like to see electric car chargers installed here and other sites for accommodation.

Winter weight duvets perhaps not good in summer. Some of party found scent diffusers overpowering. Disappointed not to have received my £150 deposit returned yet

Fabulous Stay
A lovely property in an superb location with spectacular views. The place is very comfortable with quality furnishings.
It has a great Kitchen with all the amenities you may need for a break.
Excellent bus service just outside the front door which will take you to Workington & Cockermouth in one direction and to Keswick, Penrith & Carlisle in the other - you can just abandon the car for a week!!
A couple of minute stroll takes you to the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake. Great views, loads to see, very chilled & relaxing. Because of the timing of our visit {July} we even had Osprey soaring over the water.
Fully recommend & cannot wait to go back for more.

Lovely apartment in gorgeous location
The apartment was comfortable and spotlessly clean. We have stayed here quite a few years and keep coming back. It’s such a good location with fantastic views over the fells. As a customer of Keswick Cottages I feel very well cared for and catered for. We have stayed at several of their properties and they have all had the same high standard of comfort and cleanliness.
