Good value for money, clean, comfortable and well presented room.

The check in was efficient and friendly. The building and the room was shabby. The room had not been cleaned properly and the bathroom poor. No breakfast on Sunday morning was a surprise! Reason given was that breakfast was not possible as they had to serve lunch at lunchtime!! We will not stay here again if we can avoid it.
4.0
Excellent room on the centre of town

Nice front seating area in square, food was good

For: Staff were very helpful at check-in and throughout our stay. The property is generally in good condition. Bathroom small but clean. Room well appointed on arrival. Good breakfast on Saturday. Location in Monmouth is excellent for town centre and close to car park.
Against: Maintenance not good. Curtain rail not fixed securely, finials fell off when curtains drawn. Sash window not correctly balanced so difficult to operate. Lound noise from pub tables outside until well past midnight. Room got very hot with window closed because of noise, though oscillating fan provided in the room helped fix that. Toilet roll holder in bathroom loose and wonky. Cheap electric kettle lid faulty and very difficult to open. Room not adequately cleaned; litter and dust build up under and behind desk/ dressing table. Two night stay but room consumables (tea, sugar, biscuits) not replenished for second night. No breakfasts provided on Sundays but no mention of this when booking online. 2 staircases and 4 doors to negotiate to get to top floor - not easy with a suitcase. More door signage is needed to avoid trying cupboard doors instead of unsigned staircase doors, and escape in event of fire does not appear to be clearly indicated with fire regulation illuminated signage. In summary, there appears to be inadequate facilities management.

Booked this hotel for a friends reunion. Accommodation was perfect, great host and delicious breakfast. Would definitely book again.

This is a pub trying to be a hotel but falling short.
The dinner was disgusting utensils brought in a RUSTY bucket!!. Staff didn’t see anything wrong
Ok as a pub but that’s it

A very tired old pub . Just a place to get your head down for one night only and move on. Lovely staff though.

It was my first try at travelling with my little dog and this is definitely a dog friendly bar/restaurant/hotel.
They had recently refurbed the kitchen and were due to refurb more downstairs.
Little signs of wear and tear in the bedroom but I thought it was excellent considering it dates back to the 17th century. I would definitely stay here again

The staff were extremely helpful. A member of our party became poorly and they dealt with it like true professionals.

Nice pub accommodation. There was a band on Saturday night so depending on preferences that might or might not work for others. It was all finished by 11pm and the pub was buzzing. Good atmosphere. Accommodation was good.
3.0
Generally good but I have to say the mattress was very cheap and old, and not very comfortable, leading to a not great night's sleep.
2.5
Can't fault our stay, staff are so welcoming and helpful. Loved the room with all it's old charm. Lively pub atmosphere and a perfect location right in town.

The stay at the Punch Hotel was very comfortable and the staff were always helpful and the food was excellent.

Frustrated with our stay here unfortunately. Rooms are newly refurbished and decent enough. Good location if a bit noisy when rooms face the street as with one of our party. No food on offer due to a kitchen revamp I believe. Main issue was returning after the bar had closed to find there was some kind of alarm buzzer sounding in the side hall. Staff all off site so nobody in attendance or any way to alert them. Not a big issue as it couldnt be heard in the rooms but unfortunately it must have triggered an emergency light in my room which was very bright and not far away from the head of the bed. This also couldnt be swtched off and extremely frustratingly there was nobody to contact, no phone number even, to have it turned off. I therefore had a bright light shining down on me all night which needless to say was sleepless. Staff still not returned by the time we left to poont it out either. Very poor indeed!

Really nice place

Located in a neat town center location, plenty of parking nearby and easy to locate. Check in is via a nicely furbished the bar, a rundown of fire-drills, and the area is provided. Interesting place with solid beams and a camber to the flooring, rooms are well decorated and furnished, en-suite with bath and shower, tea, coffee and bottled water supplied, full of character such as cast fireplace and sash windows which gave a view of the town square and high street. plenty to see locally, nice quiet area with restaurants, bars, shopping, the caste and museum on the doorstep.
The bar is great in the evening with seating outside, locals are laid back and friendly, no agro.
The important stuff.. The room has all you'll need particularly for a 3 star? Bed is comfy, rooms are warm and it's quiet enough at night if you're too warm to open the window.
If i'm in the area I'll stay here again for sure

Room was clean and spacious. Good bed linen and towels. Would benefit from a couple of comfy chairs. Saturday night - the pub was noisy ( and also the street outside until the small hours) but we knew this from the reviews before we booked. Good location, very central. Weatherspoons a few metres away was fine for breakfast

Excellent hotel and service from Natalie, lovely beer and food and most of all Dog friendly
5.0
I am deeply cynical about reviews like this and normally don't respond to requests. But....they have done a fantastic job here. There is dog friendly and dog tolerant and they are in the former. A fantastic genuine welcome for the dogs and ourselves with a lovely room. The room was clean , well appointed and comfortable. The pub did lovely food and was obviously a key point for the locals . For the price , they outshone hotels we have stayed in at 4x the price for the attention to detail.

Great value right in the town.
Nice rooms.
Restaurant food looks good, but they do not serve breakfast. Wetherspoons is opposite though for a great value breakfast.
This is our hotel of choice if we need to stay over in Monmouth.
Lower rooms can be very noisy on a Saturday with the live music and crowd it attracts, so get a room on the second floor if this would be an issue for you.

The Punch House is a cheerful and welcoming pub in the heart of Monmouth. Our room (no 4) was large and spacious with a modern 4 poster bed. There was a bath (yes!) and plenty of hot water.
Only tea bags were provided, but that was fine and there are no breakfast facilities, but there is a Wetherspoon two mins away.
It was a bit noisy at night, but we were here between Christmas and New Year, so to be expected.
I recommend it as a fun overnight stay.

An overnight stay. Perfect location, warm welcome, good facilities in room. A classic pub stay and excellent value.

Pleasant well equipped room, but a few minor touches would have improved our experience.
We knew the hotel didn't do breakfast, but weren't told on arrival that evening meals were only served till 7pm, nor that the bar might close early.
The replenishment of tea and biscuits was erratic during our three night stay, and the teacups weren't washed on one day.
We stayed in room 10, which was up 3 flights of stairs, but was a warm, quiet room. But my sister stayed in room 4 below for 2 nights and had a poor nights sleep b cause of bar noise below and some sort of compressor which kicked into action occasionally.
Lovely area to visit, though, and Monmouth looks very pretty at night at the moment
2.5
Lovely stay. The room was very cosy and well kept, and there was a TV for entertainment. Staff were friendly and the food in the pub downstairs was very good, with a couple of vegan options too. Close to the shops in Monmouth without being too noisy.

Had a great stay here. The staff are really friendly. The bar has a good selection of ales, so that suited me just fine. I didn't have any food, but what I saw and smelt seemed really good. The bedrooms are well kept and very clean. Bear in mind that you are staying above a pub. As I was up early next morning for work I had an early night but could hear the music and talking until the bar closed. However...... This won't affect most people as they will be socialising rather than going to bed early :-) Would I stay here again? Definitely

Wonderful stay! The place was clean, staff helpful, and right in the heart of Monmouth.

Easy to find the location and there are many restaurants, supermarkets and pharmacies around.

Assistant manager checked us in, so warm and friendly, especially with our little dog. Room was lovely and clean. Staff can’t do enough for you.
Great location and a nice pint too. Very dog friendly too, which was a big plus for us. Highly recommend.

Perfect location and car park quite close. Staff were lovely and the building is very old with modern twist.

Nice and friendly staff, clean, good-sized rooms. No fridge, and also no shampoo in the bathroom (very nice bathroom, btw) or soap, although soap was provided when we asked for it. The pub is busy, but after 11 pm it goes quiet. Would very happily stay there again.
