We loved the style and the lay out of the house and the garden around it was amazing. The view from the first floor is something we will always remember. A huge tree with lots of birds and a little further away the ever flowing river. The place feels more like a tropical home than a vacation rental. The kitchen is well equipped and the utensils are of good quality. The beds and linens are very comfortable. We appreciated the hosts endeavors at being eco friendly and the lack of airconditioning wasn’t a problem. We loved our stay at Alma del rio!
The property is relatively close to a main road. You hear traffic noises during the day. Construction was going on at the neighboring house which also caused some noise. The WiFi network coverage was not great.

Absolutely beautiful place to stay. Felt extremely welcomed and looked after. Just wonderful to sit and look at the birds and the river. Extremely well appointed and beautiful wood work everywhere with a lot of style. Excellent eco as well

The house is a gem of perfect build and nice materials. the jungle verandah is a dream to hang out on listening to the howler monkeys and watching birds and wild life feed on fruit. The house is well appointed the owner and care takers are utterly nice and accommodating and it was nice to find recommendations and board games. It was perfect size for our family of four and we enjoyed having drinks in the fridge that we could help our selves to as a mini bar. we had a car so the place was perfectly located for our Cayo adventures, Hadas was kind enough to help organise 4 excursions which was truly wonderful.
a few downside to the property is that it is close to the road at the back but after the first morning we didn’t hear the car. it is also a jungle ecolodge so there may be critters during your stay. we didn’t swim in the river as the access didn’t feel entirely clean enough for our taste at that moment.

The house was one of the most well-thought out places I have ever stayed. Every detail was exceptional. The focus on sustainability without compromising comfort made us happy. There is no air conditioning but the trees and screens and fans ensured a cool sleep. There was a swing, a river to swim in, a place to put fruit peels out for the birds, composting and a shower to dream of returning to.

Treehouse feel. Great for watching birds. Our host helped arrange tours with Serio at Island Tours to ATM and Tikal…amazing! Andy took us birdwatching, saw Tucans, parrots and more. Finished at the chocolate factory. Perfect trip!

We had an excellent stay at Alma Del Rio (3 nights in mid Oct). It’s a very calm and quiet place and you feel very close to the nature! The place have two properties and we stayed at the La Alma. The view from the second floor (lounge area) is fantastic! The place is covered with lots and lots of greenery. We were to watch Toucan and other birds from the screened lounge area. The river in the back of the property was little flooded by the hurricane Julia but it was really a nice, short walk down to the river and we wish we came at a different time to spend more time at the side of the river.
The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The kitchen is small but very nice. The hosts, Tom & Hada are great, down-to-earth people. They made sure we were comfortable with the stay. Our kids enjoyed spending time playing with Alma. We absolutely enjoyed the San Ignacia farmer's market, which was a short drive from the stay. We wish we could have stayed longer.
This is not to sound as what we didn't like but more of an advice. It would be nice if the kitchen is stocked with a bit more stuff in addition to the basics (coffee/sugar/salt/oil).
