Hotel itself was as expected: nice, cozy and tradional. Absolutely fabulous was the staff: professional, efficient and at the same time warm and caring of their guests and their needs. Elderly people were treated well. I recommend to be in contact with this hotel in advance, because there are many different kind of rooms available for variable preferences.

Lovely family run hotel in central location. It’s was a bit underwhelming from the outside but the garden is beautiful and the we enjoyed the hospitality. Breakfast was very nice. We will definitely go back next time we travel in Oxford.

Was in the annex which was good as a late night. Have to go to main hotel for breakfast

Was on a business trip and was perfect for a basic overnight stay. It's an old hotel and an old building which is part of it's charm.

I stayed in separate building down the street. Small rooms with shared toilet and shower. It was nice enough. The staff were excellent. The area is under heavy construction so alternative parking was needed. But this was arranged. Breakfast was very nice, a free option with ability to buy more. Road closures made getting to hotel difficult but detailed instructions were provided and they worked well. This is a modest but affordable place within easy walking distance of the University.

This is a nice affordable lodging. The staff were great and accommodating. I stayed in the annex, a building down the street. Small spartan room with shared toilet and shower. It worked out well for me (might need to bring shampoo). The breakfast was good. There is a lot of construction around the building making parking and getting to the hotel difficult. But I was given excellent instructions before arrival and that was enough.

A great hotel with fume of history. Convenient location to all. Great breakfast for all your family needs. Please be aware of the noise of surrounding construction. The impacts are not just the excessive noise but the hot water supply to the bathroom. We do not have the hot water on the first night, need to use public bathroom. We still have issue of the hot water on and off the second day after the hot water pressure device replaced. We ask reimburse from the manager but did not get the response. Hope they could get this issue resolved for future travelers.

Nice & affordable hotel in walking distance from all facilities of the university, very friendly staff, rooms small but fine

Stayed in a twin room that was very convenient for myslef and a friend. Comfortable and very closeby to the city centre.
Only slight annoyance was when we arrived the room hadn't been cleaned from people before, spoke to the cleaner and said she'll clean next, even though we had arrived much after the arrival time.
Overall once cleaned there were no complaints. Lovely staff!

The biggest issue with this hotel is the works hoing on for the station renovation.
On the Friday night we had unscheduled road resurfacing right outdide until midnight
One thing i never like in a hotel is hidden extras, having searched for a hotel with car parking, i dont see it as acceptable that this is in a neighbouring hotel and costs 12 pounds day.
People running the hotel are nice and friendly.

In terms of location and price, this was an excellent hotel. They have been open about being affected by noise from recent building works, but when I stayed (across a weekend in June 2024), I got excellent and quiet nights even with the window open (it was hot).
Yes, some of the overall decor is dated and even a bit scruffy, but this is part of the budget package. Fancier hotels in Oxford are very expensive, and many travellers don't want to pay for that. The room itself was actually pretty modern, and perfectly pleasant. In terms of other negatives I've seen pop up in reviews: room was clean, staff were friendly, and wi-fi was fast and reliable.
I had the free continental breakfast two mornings, and it was nice (especially when sat out in the garden) and I paid extra one morning for the cooked breakfast which was tasty, and preferable to cooked items sitting on a hot-plate.
Overall, I'd definitely consider staying here again.

Poky room antiquated facilities. Lack of basic facilities in the room. One clothes hanger, no mixer tap. Rude service at breakfast

Room was extremely small, shower water pressure was almost none. Stairs was steep and narrow, very hard to walk up and down, especially when pulling a carry-on luggage

Great service, super helpful and friendly staff. The room is pretty nice as well, a good size for two. A great value for money!

Quaint stay, friendly staff, family run business. There is construction outside but did not hear it at all at night. The rooms are around the corner from the main office, very close to train station. We stayed on the bottom floor and there was one bathroom to share with one other room stay. The bathroom was newly renovated with a very nice shower. The rooms themselves were a bit outdated, single beds, with a sink, and a window that opens to a cute overgrown garden. I was expecting a busier hostel style stay, but it was nice, relaxed, and felt authentic to Oxford. I did not have their breakfast at the main office but it looked really good and inexpensive. The only thing was walls are a little thin and doors need to be oiled. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Stayed for 5 days. Very small room and did not have one regular warm shower once. It’s a temperature and water pressure issue. No shampoo unless you ask for it. Big construction site right outside hotel. They provide a big styrofoam board to jam into the window frame to block out the noise. They suggested that if I am at a conference I should have breakfast there as they are short on staff.

Staff friendly. Bed sheets changed every day. They are the only positives I’m afraid. Needs double glazing. The train station is being renovated. They working on it 24/7 the noise was awful. Had to pay £12 per day parking at their other hotel opposite. Only continental breakfast included had to pay £4.50 extra for small cooked breakfast. No cooked breakfast on Easter Sunday as no chef. Very very dated room. Bathroom was okay but very cold the radiator wasn’t working. Thick dust everywhere. Bed very low and not very comfortable. Was told WiFi anvai but we couldn’t get it in our room. Extremely over priced for what it is.

Its an old building and could do with a freshen up with a lick of paint, and perhaps some new sanitary fittings, however this did not impact on our stay. The room and bedding was clean, comfortable and warm. Plenty of hot water. The breakfast was lovely and plentiful and the staff were all lovely. Brilliant location for getting into town and safe parking. This cost extra but was good value. The ongoing roadworks are not the fault of the hotel and they did all they can to minimize the noise. We slept well and was not impacted by these works.

I remember struggling to get a stable WiFi connection, even though the notice on door of my room gave the impression that it was a secure connection. The other problem I had was that the power outlet for the kettle didn’t work. This concerned me as I had brought decaf coffee with me and intended to save money & time at the football match I had come to see by taking my own travel mug of hot coffee with me. The person on duty was very helpful to be fair and made the coffee for me downstairs, which I much appreciated. I would humbly suggest that this electrical issue is resolved before the room is let again. Cooked breakfast was very nice and a lot cheaper than I expected, so that was a pleasant surprise. I rarely stay in Oxford overnight, so I don’t know if my Wi-Fi issue is commonplace throughout the city.

Nice and clean, some work going on outside so a bit noisy but we were provided with window covers to keep the noise down. TV with Netflix was a win. Breakfast was nice, no fry up though!

Fantastic owners and amazing breakfast!

Was very fortunate to be able to find somewhere so close to the train station at short notice, and it did the job. It was cold outside, so the room being very warm when I got in was ideal.
There were a couple of downsides: I was unable to use the WiFi for most of my stay, and I was overcharged for a cooked breakfast (4.50 instead of 3.50). One staff member was also much friendlier than the other.

Our luggage was airline delayed from our international trip, so we were bummed, but the kind and helpful staff at the Westgate were especially accommodating to our needs as we dealt with our frustration. We stayed in the annex, which meant we shared a bath, but the room itself was well equipped, clean and comfy. The shared bath was modern and clean. Breakfast was hearty and served in a lovely garden or conservatory. We were well cared for, and when you don't have your luggage, that means everything to a frustrated, weary traveler. I recommend them highly.

Very good, clean, well-located property for an affordable stay in Oxford. Management was very kind and helpful. Staff was very kind and professional. Road construction is a bit of a noisy inconvenience but of course none of hotel's fault--situation is supposed to be better soon.

The hotel was decent—old and a little run down, but they do a good job keeping it clean and welcoming

Overall a very nice place to stay. Conveniently right next to the Oxford train station. Included breakfast buffet was nice. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
On the last night, water started dripping into the closed from the room above. I called down and someone came to take a look, but couldn't do anything about it, and there were no rooms open to move to. Fortunately, I had already moved my clothes from the closet.

Good reasonable option for Oxford. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast included every morning from 7:30-9:00AM was a nice touch. Breakfast included cereal, orange juice, baked goods, hard boiled eggs, fruit, and toast.
2.0 / 5.0
Overpriced hotel. We were told not to leave our laptop in our room so had to carry all valuables all day at Oxford with a back pack. The staff that made breakfast was on vacation so no eggs, bacon etc. The beds were uncomfortable and the room was not clean.
