About this house rental
Two separate barns on The Kymin, Monmouth, Wye Valley, Monmouthshire, Wales - rural location with shops, pubs and restaurants nearby.
Ideal for groups or families.
Beautifully converted stone barns above the Wye Valley, Monmouth with panoramic views over the Black Mountains and beyond. Situated on the Welsh English borders, the barns are close to each other and provide accommodation for 10/12 in total.
Both barns offer south facing patios, perfect for a relaxing drink any time of the day, a barbeque on a warm evening or wrap up in the winter and feast your eyes on the stunning star filled nights skies. The Kymin benefits from minimal light pollution, so is an ideal vantage point.
We are close to nature, and it is not unusual to see rabbits, badgers, foxes, deer and bats in the vicinity or even venturing into the garden in a quiet period for a munch on the grass or hedgerows.
We also offer the option for guests to hire a hot tub which can be located on the patio during their stay for that extra special addition to experiencing the view. Please ask for details prior to booking as availability may vary especially when booking at short notice..
We welcome well behaved pets, and you can walk straight out into the Forest of Dean or Wye Valley where there are plenty of trails supported by pet friendly watering holes.
There are normally animals in the field nearby and we offer the opportunity to feed the sheep and chickens when we are able to. This has proved very popular with guests, particularly our younger guests. Please ask on booking.
Top Barn has 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, kitchen and lounge area and sleeps 4/5.
Long Barn has 3 bedrooms, a bathroom and one en-suite, kitchen and lounge area and sleeps 6/7.
Features in both barns include oak flooring, a log burner, wet room and south facing patio area with seating and barbeque. Original stone features within the properties have been retained.
The cottage is only metres from Offa's Dyke footpath situated in an area of 'Outstanding Natural Beauty' and there are numerous activities in the adjacent Forest of Dean including cycling, canoeing and rock climbing. In addition, we are close to other points of interest including Tintern Abbey, Symonds Yat, numerous castles including Chepstow and Raglan and only an hour’s drive away from the tallest mountain in South Wales, Pen Y Fan, located in the Brecon Beacons National Park.
We are ideally situated between Cardiff and Bristol, with easy access to both via car or train (Abergavenny).
There are several excellent golf courses within 30 minutes drive of the property including The Celtic Manor Resort.
These properties are also listed separately.

Some friends and I came to stay in both barns for a weekend in July 2024. Had a blast, and were blown away by the views. A perfect getaway, thanks so much Cathy & co!

We had an excellent weekend for a hen do, such beautiful surroundings on top of the hill. Beautiful lodges, the photos don’t do it justice. Great communication with Cathy.

What a lovely place to stay. Beautiful views, picturesque drives, tranquil walks and a holiday base as a home from home. Holiday barn was clean, all kitchen, bedroom and bathroom catered for to use without wanting for essentials. Cathy, our host was just a call or text away to help, but allowed us the space and time to feel we were away from everything but nature. Provisions were only a short drive away, shopping by car in the market town of Monmouth 5 minutes away. Many places to visit including historic castles and the idyllic setting on the river Wye, including Symonds Yat. So I’d you are looking for a little slice of paradise you’ll find it here. Bonus is seeing bunnies hopping in the early morning views of the fields. Sheep quietly grazing. Horses enjoying their happy spectators. We even saw a badger in broad daylight running through our cobble path! Thank you Cathy for sharing this beautiful place to others.

We really enjoyed our stay at the long barn. The barn is just outisde Monmouth on a hill overlooking the town and the views are fab. We stayed at the property in August and had good weather and were able to eat out in the decent sized garden most nights. The kids enjoyed the giant Jenga, slide and board games. The barn itself was clean and tidy and KAthy was a great host and even invited the girls to feed the sheep one morning. Firmly recommended.

We were fortunate to have a family holiday in the Long Barn and Top Barn. The setting was wonderful, spectacular views and everything we needed for our stay. We had great walks in the surrounding area and loved the week we had there. The booking process and support from Cathy with questions before the holiday was useful and we felt welcomed. The children enjoyed the time they spent with David feeding the sheep and chicken. We would return...it was a wonderful week. Thank you Cathy and David

We booked both properties to celebrate a family birthday. The properties were great and the location stunning with the most amazing views. The hosts were super and let my children feed the sheep and chickens which they were delighted by. All in all a great weekend and I am sure we will be back.
