設備や宿泊した部屋は申し分なかった。
娯楽設備が少ないことが残念です。
たとえば、カラオケルームや卓球台などあればもう少し楽しめたと思います。

Hotel staff was very friendly and welcoming.
Facilities felt worn and dated, did not feel it was worth the cost.

Location

Huge room. Especially for only two people. It's not only traditional Japanese style, but also pretty vintage (but definitely in a good way). It was really nice to have different sitting areas and places you could relax after spending the day at the beach or out in the town. The beds are Japanese futons, so they can even be rolled up during the day for more space. We didn't need to do so, but larger groups might find this useful. I have lived in Japan for a long time, so I don't mind futons but let me say these were some of the most comfortable ones I've ever slept on. If this will be your first experience with them, you will have no trouble. Separate toilet and bath are always a plus for me, and the separated seating/lounge area with a view of the sea was a bonus. We did not order the food course (I recommend if you have the extra money) but still the staff make sure you have a tea set, water, and some complementary traditional sweets ready when you arrive. The staff were also very courteous and welcoming. They take your bags, have you pick out a yukata and bring you to the room. They show you everything you need to know and leave you be. It feels like they are expecting you when you arrive and it's a really nice personal touch. The location is absolutely the best part. Right at the bottom of the hill next to the hotel is the beach and just back up the street is the station area. Plenty of shops and restaurants within a 10min walk.
The only complaint about the room is that it seems a little beat-up. I realize it is old, and that is part of the charm, but also scrapes, paint chips, dings and bangs on the walls and surfaces seem a bit cheap when you pay quite a lot for the experience. A fresh coat of paint isn't such a hard thing to add every once and a while. Also, the lighting in the bath area was a bit poor.
Other than that, we had a great experience until check-out.
We were suddenly asked to pay an "onsen fee", despite having not used it, and it was separate from the hotel payment (which I had done with a credit card prior to arrival) and to be done in cash. It was also never mentioned at check-in, on any literature, or anywhere on Booking.com. It left a bad taste in our mouths and I feel like it could have been handled better.
