Surrounded by serene gardens and tucked away in a quiet neighborhood of Carmel-by-the-Sea, Stone’s Throw offers exquisitely updated amenities as well as the perfect location that’s just a short 10 minute walk to the beach and to Ocean Avenue’s restaurants and shopping. It’s also a 10-minute drive to local attractions like golf and sightseeing in Pebble Beach®, vintage Victorian homes and shopping in Pacific Grove, or to historic Cannery Row and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Or enjoy a short drive to Big Sur to take in the majestic landscape, hiking and dining.
Guests entering under the vine-covered garden arches will think they’ve stepped into a fairy tale, with beautiful gardens blooming with hydrangea, rhododendron, jasmine and roses, framed by native succulents, Japanese maples and palms. Carmel stone walkways lead to the doorway of the cottage, which is crowned in a traditional English country gabled roof.
Stone’s Throw is 2,009 sf. It has a high-end chef’s kitchen, two Carmel stone gas fireplaces, vaulted ceilings and hand-plastered walls in every room, oak hardwood floors and beautiful historical detailing indoors and out.
Living Spaces
Abundant common areas include separate living and family rooms, both with gas fireplaces, as well as a library retreat with games, puzzles and books on local history and nature. The family room has a 55-inch Roku-enabled Smart TV and sofa and leather chairs.
Kitchen and Dining
The fully equipped chef’s kitchen has Alder cabinets, Jerusalem limestone countertops, a Sub-Zero refrigerator and wine fridge, Bosch double ovens and a Thermador five-burner gas cooktop. The adjacent dining area has a vintage cottage dining table with seating for eight.
French doors from both the kitchen and dining areas open fully onto the Carmel stone patio, where overhead string lighting, incredible garden landscaping, fountain, a gourmet gas grill and seating for six, make this a perfect place for outdoor dining.
Bedrooms and Bathrooms
Bedroom #1 is on the main/upper level and overlooks Pescadero Canyon. Open the French doors of its private balcony and hear the sound of ocean waves. The bedroom has a king bed and an en suite bath with heated floors, jetted tub, walk-in shower and dual sinks and mirrors.
Bedroom #2, with a queen bed, is also on the main level, with a full bathroom with a shower across the hall and has a “peek of the ocean” view and views of the canyon.
Bedroom #3, with a king bed and en suite bathroom, is privately situated on the lower level, with a wood beamed ceiling and its own deck. It has the option of being accessed from inside the house or by its own separate entrance.
A twin bed located in an adjacent small bonus room is perfect for a child.
The garage can accommodate one small car and has a 240V Level 2 electric vehicle charger that delivers up to 40A with a 23 foot cable for easy charging even outside the garage. Two cars can park in the driveway.
Well-behaved small dogs are welcome with pre-approval, an additional pet fee and a signed pet addendum.

At the last minute of summer vacation planning, we decided to get out of the hot & humid Texas heat & travel to Carmel by the Sea. We were able to rent Stones Throw, a 1920’s storybook house. It was truly enchanting! It is located in a quiet part of Carmel, walking distance to the beach, as well as the town. The gardens surrounding the cottage were lush & well maintained. The home was incredibly comfortable, accommodating 5 adults & a 1year old. The house was clean, had all you needed for cooking & plenty of space for relaxing. Roku was provided for the TV’s. We would love to stay again for longer than a week.

My husband and I took my parents to Carmel for a few days and were very pleased with our stay at Stone’s Throw. The house was very clean and the property was gorgeous. The view from the kitchen and dining area was picturesque and perfect for my parents to sit and relax. The house was super close to downtown, within walking distance or a very short drive. The house had all the amenities needed, including heaters for the downstairs bedroom which was a little cooler in temperature, plus everything needed to make breakfast/ dinner. The gas fireplace was an extra bonus since the weather was a little cooler than expected. We had a great stay and it was perfect for our getaway to fulfill my mom’s wish of visiting Carmel.

This home was even better in person! So much character while being very comfortable. With multiple living spaces and a game room our family of 6 had plenty of room. We loved walking into town and to the beach each day. Would stay here again!

This home was perfect for our family of 6's brief visit to Caramel. Not only was it spacious, comfortable, and beyond adorable, being able to walk downtown and avoid the parking situation was a game changer. The management company did a superb job of communicating and making us feel welcome, from the wine and cheese welcome platter to the label light switches and frequent texts and check-ins, I knew we were in good hands. We've stayed at dozens and dozens of rental homes and the customer service experience at Stone's Throw was truly one of the best.

What a lovely, quintessential Carmel home. Lovely design and appointments. Located at the end of a quiet street and a few blocks from the beach and restaurants. We walked everywhere. Added bonus, the owners allow pets. Our dog was in heaven on Carmel Beach. Would stay again!

This year we opted for something a little different than the typical beach vacation. Carmel is a gorgeous little town and the surrounding areas offer a tremendous amount of activities with a stunning natural backdrop. The house was adorable, accommodating, and terrifically located.

The home was exactly as described and pictured on the website. It is in a great location, very quiet (except for the dog across the street that barks all the time!) and it was very clean when we arrived. I found that the van from the rental agency which arrived at a few minutes before 10am on the day of checkout very tacky. I am sure there are more appropriate ways to be certain that the guests are leaving at EXACTLY 10am on check out day.

This place was absolutely perfect for our 3 couples gathered to sirens time exploring the area. It felt like our own home. It was outfitted and cleaned perfectly, and we so appreciated the wine, cheese and crackers left for us! Other than perhaps offering some laundry detergent for our stay, there is NOTHING I could improve upon. Top notch home with top notch kitchen, two wonderful fireplaces, an awesome game room, an inviting patio, and so much more. We could walk easily to shops or the beach! Stone's Throw was a perfect home and location for my family to celebrate my brother's 50th birthday. It is a charming home in an amazing location. The house is very well appointed, with comfortable beds and a kitchen equipped with everything you need to make a great meal. We enjoyed the charming outdoor space, card/game room, and walks to the beach. We also appreciated the spacing of the bedrooms to allow everyone their privacy. I only wish we could stay longer!

Downstairs semi-private bedroom/bath suite with french doors leading to private deck and yard, ideal for young couple with dogs. Spent alot of time in the kitchen and in front of the living room fireplace. Read in the cozy reading room and worked a puzzle and watched TV in the family room Even had a BBQ one night on the patio. Walked to beach with dogs and into town for meals. Went hiking at Point Lobos, drove to Big Sur and guys went golfing at Poppy Hills. Appreciated the warm welcome and complimentary snacks and wine. Stone's Throw is one of the best vacation rental homes we've ever stayed in. The gardens and architecture are magical, a wonderful place to celebrate a special family birthday. The decor and furniture are great and beds very comfortable. The kitchen has absolutely anything you would need to prepare a nice meal.and they have Keurig, drip, and French press coffee makers. It was also nice to discover that the house has a subscription to YouTubeTV, which we discovered when we were frantically figuring out how to watch a Warriors playoff game. The only criticism I have is that their pet policy was incorrect on the VRBO listing, and we ended up needing to get special permission for our two dogs after booking on VRBO and paying a deposit. So if you have dogs, call and get clarification before you book the home. Also, this wasn't clear in the listing, but you can only bring two cars, as the garage is too small for most cars, other than something like a Mini Cooper, and there is no street parking.

Ever hope and pray that you will find the perfect get-a-way...we did with a Stones Throw in Carmel by the Sea! Perfectly appointed home, with incredible gardens, ample space within the home for party of 5 with warm and cozy interiors and plenty of light during the day, comfortable sleeping arrangements. It’s everything one might want, plus literally a short walk away from downtown. Our only reservation was...our trip wasn’t long enough. We will correct that next time.
