The breakfast was lovely as was the food. A bit pricey but we really enjoyed it for a treat. The hospitality in the restaurant was amazing. Relaxed, attentive staff and couldn’t be more cosy and charming inside.
The small double was nicely decorated but fairly basic, if we returned we might fork out the extra for a more spacious room.

Lovely homely feel

A lovely quiet spot, 10 minutes off the A303 with a norman motte and bailey and a Saxon keep next door. Interesting well presented menu.
Repeat guest.

We had a wonderful time here, celebrating the last day of our Honey Moon. The rooms are spotless and look fantastic, the pub is amazing and the staff are so kind and helpful. I really can't fault it and we will definitely be going back at some point soon. Also, its a great location to explore Dartmoor with nearby access to a particularly nice part of it. 5 stars!
I can't think of anything.

contemporary decor to bathroom
no wardrobe nowhere to put fresh milk noisy at night with people coming out of pub

Full of character, handy location. Thoughtful extras in room (eg real milk & homemade biscuits)

The location is perfect for walkers, and is dog friendly.
The choice of real ales and the evening menu are excellent, but you do truly have to book even when you are residents.
The staff are friendly and helpful.
The breakfast was an issue. The first morning very good cooked well. the second morning communication between waitress and cook not good, did not get what we ordered, request no sausages as to herby, got two and very little bacon. The third morning, after making the point we would like what was ordered as that was not the case on the previous day, when the cooked breakfast arrived the bacon looked like it had been kept hot or been cooked more than once, dry, hard, almost burnt.
Room 7 has a water heater above which apparently should be turned off as the timer does not work, the first two nights we had to request a member of staff to turn said water heater off, the third night my partner got on a chair and did it himself! Room 7 is also affected by an outside generator for the beer garden, which means that although there is a television in the room there is virtually no signal ,unable to watch when this is on.
The windows are not double glazed. The Castle Inn is now owned by the brewery, it is the only Inn in Lyford, hopefully the brewery will invest in this lovely village Inn that needs some improvements.

Great breakfast.... beautiful old pub with great atmosphere
Shower was poor with only warm water and some bathroom fittings were broken

Exceptional food - dinner and breakfast - fresh and beautifully cooked and presented by friendly and professional service
The bedroom was on the small size - because of the layout it was a tight squeeze to get past the bed - but the bed was comfortable.

spacious but cosy, tradition with modern twists, very nicely done with a friendly and warm service.

very good food, staff lovely, nice location on Dartmoor. Bed very comfortable & owners provide a lot of extra touches in the room - fresh milk at 0700hrs etc.
overpriced- I booked through booking.com & a lot of money for room with no bath!! £150:for 1 night. The hotel told me it was cheaper to book direct although still expensive.
