About this house rental
A beautiful house with a rustic charm located above a very private beach, Coco Flotante offers comfortable, elegant indoor and outdoor living spaces and magnificent ocean views.
Ocean breezes and the sound of surf fills a house that offers spectacular sunset views from every room. Eight to ten people can stay here very comfortably, but smaller groups will also find the home's intimate spaces welcoming and well-proportioned. The first floor offers two private master suites with king beds and en suite baths, plus a living room with TV, a well equipped kitchen, and a laundry room. The outside stairs take to the second floor, where a beautifully appointed bedroom with queen bed enjoys its own private floor-to-ceiling ocean views and shares a double vanity bath with the spacious twin bedroom down the hall. The bar and spacious lounge is ideal for watching sunsets.
The heart of the house is its beautifully landscaped outdoor living space, with large open air dining table, hammocks, ranchero, and intimate sitting areas just outside both of the two first-floor master suites. Relax in the infinity pool, nap in a lounge chair with palms rustling overhead, or retreat with drink in hand to a comfortable chair under the shade of the ranchero when the sun is strong.
The location is nothing short of spectacular, with unimpeded views of the Pacific and direct access to two beautiful beaches, which offer sand, surf, snorkeling, and a distinct lack of crowds.
Located little more than an hour from the airport in Liberia, or forty-five minutes from either Tamarindo or Santa Cruz, the village of Junquillal is easily accessible but not overly developed. You won’t find nightclubs and streets lined with shopping here, but if you’re looking for a laid-back, quiet, authentic setting with easy access to all kinds of options, you’ll love it. There are several excellent restaurants in the immediate area. Local tour guides can arrange horseback, zip line, or jungle river tours; and hiking, caving, birding, mountain biking, scuba diving, or deep sea fishing adventures. Just two miles to the north (a half hour walk on the beach) is the world class surf of Playa Negra. Surfing and stand-up paddleboarding lessons and estuary tours are readily available.
A five minute walk brings you to the long, flat expanse of Playa Junquillal and its Turtle Nesting Sanctuary, which has received global recognition. From the lawn of Coco Flotante watch for low tide at Playa Blanca and you’re only two minutes away from fantastic snorkeling. Palo Verde National Park is one hour from the house and Rincon National Park is two. One of Costa Rica’s finest golf courses is located a half-hour away at the luxurious Hacienda Pinilla.
The Spanish-speaking caretakers who live on the premises are friendly and attentive. Please note that there are small dogs on the property. Don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions.

Private and discreet, with conscientious caretaker and housekeeper. Best enjoyed by those under 75 years of age. Teens and kids loved it. Very close to good beaches and restaurants.

We were absolutely blown away by our stay here. The views were stunning, and we loved the fun and adventurous walks on the beach. When our daughter stepped on a sea urchin one day, the housekeeper was incredibly helpful as we tried to remove the spines from her foot. She provided a first-aid kit, vinegar, and other medical supplies. Despite the language barrier, she was exceptionally kind and supportive.

Our family truly enjoyed staying here and would definitely come back again. The house was beautifully decorated and gave our family of five the space we all needed. Gama and Irene, the caretakers, were so very friendly and took care of our every need, while giving us the privacy we needed. And we all feel in love with Duque, the family dog - he joined us on the beach everyday. 😁 The beach was awesome and not crowded and the sunsets were incredible. Book it!

Beautiful location on what feels like a private beach. Comfortable and spacious home. Attentive caretakers.

Plenty of room to lounge, relax, and spread out. The pool was the perfect temperature, and very clean. We enjoyed the large kitchen and fridge space as well. Just steps to the beach, truly an oasis.

Our extended family stayed at this beautiful home for 2 weeks. It had everything we needed. As others have remarked, the pictures do not do it justice. Maria came every morning and was so kind and efficient.
The only thing I would recommend is bringing your own beach chairs if you are planning frequent beach excursions. We hope to return!

The setting was wonderful, the views were amazing, the house was very private and accommodating for all our needs. The pictures cannot even show how beautiful and authentic this place is with its spanish tiles, private beach setting, areas to relax. This home was great for couples to share or a big family.

Coco Flotante is an incredible property where our family of 8, 7 adults & one child ten years old, had a fabulous week. Some enjoyed a fishing charter and surfing, and we all participated in a fun Monkey and Crocodile riverboat adventure with Xplore Costa Rica. Everyone loved the house and the pool where we spent many hours so much that we really didn’t ever need to leave the property. The caretakers next door were wonderful and graciously took care of our every need. Also, the rental manager was very helpful and answered all of our questions in a timely manner. There aren’t enough superlatives to describe Coco Flotante, and we are already planning our next visit there. It is truly Pura Vida!

The property is set on bluffs above the Pacific affording wonderful sunsets with the constant sound of waves crashing. The house is nice and big, with lots of spots to relax. The air-conditioning in the bedrooms was welcomed.
Just a great experience! Everything we expected.

Coco Flotante is absolutely beautiful, the pictures hardly do it justice. We spent two weeks, the first with our grandniece and nephew (9 and 11) and the second with our adult children and friends.
The host (Georgina) and the caretakers (Gama and Maria) we all excellent and very helpful.
Everything you need is there. The pool is just the right size for adults to hang out or kids to play Marco Polo. It worked well to have a separate floor (we put the younger people up there, the stairs are steep). Well-stocked kitchen, nice seating areas.
Be prepared for mosquitos. They appear at dawn and dusk. Once we put mosquito repellant on we were fine.
Walks along the beach were excellent. Some of our party did the horseback riding at sunset and had a wonderful time.
Highly recommended:
Lola's at Playa Avellanas. We spent a day there surfing (or for some of us watching surfing) excellent meals and great umbrella set up ($10/day per chair).
Rip tides are no joke, but if you are cautious, body surfing at Junquillal beach was a favorite.
TPV's river tour. Loads of monkeys, birds and crocodiles.
Nearby dining: Guacamaya Lodge, Tides, and Lochitos.
Villa Deevena is pricey but excellent AND, for the wine snobs out there, they have an excellent wine shop and this is the best place to buy wine in the area.
We had great time snorkeling with Pargos. He's very knowledgeable and safety conscious.
A big THANK YOU to Georgina, Gama, and Maria for making our stay so wonderful.

Coco Flotante was the perfect spot for our extended family (3 kids (age 13, 10, 8), 2 parents and 4 grandparents). We have no complaints and would pick here again in a second.

This was our first trip to Costa Rica . Renting a car was the best for this location! The house was a perfect set-up for families and groups travelling together. The rooms arranged so you have privacy.
The upstairs was perfect for a family -with children.
Two bedrooms — one large bathroom .

The pictures don’t do the view justice. We had a huge group down for a wedding and rented multiple house, this house crushed. It also had stairs right down to the beach, which is very secluded, very spacious with tons of different seating areas inside and outside of the house.

this property is beautiful. gorgeous view of the beach and sunsets. having the pool right in the backyard was perfect. the outdoor dining area was spacious, the rooms were all nice. the onsite staff was friendly and helpful with making arrangements and stocking the kitchen. we had several meals prepared by a local chef which were delicious. if you want to swim at the beach, do some research on tide times, currents and the volcanic rocks. we had a great time boogie boarding and snorkeling just a few minutes walk down the beach. wonderful family vacation.

Coco Flotante was a private oasis and the perfect size for our family of 8. We loved how secluded the house was, and enjoyed having a private pool and beach access steps from our door. While getting there was tricky (make sure to plug in "Coco Flotante" into your Google Maps or Waze and remember there aren't addresses!), once we did, the caretaker greeted us with open arms. The caretakers live right next door, and are just a door knock away if you need anything. There isn't much to do in the town of Playa Junquillal itself, but we found renting a car and driving to different surrounding locations/excursions (i.e. Playa Negra and Tamarindo) worked great for us. The house itself is perfect for a day in, sunbathing by the pool, and enjoying the views. Remember that you're tucked away in the jungle, so there will be critters - crabs and toads frequently ran through the outdoor deck, and the howler monkeys were active at night. And be sure to bring bug spray (and lots of it!). We liked that there were AC units in almost every room - you definitely need those on during the night. The filtered water unit did not work for us, so we just bought large jugs for the entirety of the trip. If you get the chance, try out one of the local spots nearby for some authentic Costa Rican food (we recommended Lochito's, it's right down the street!). And finally, the sunsets were like none we've ever seen before. We watched them every night, and was an unforgettable experience!

The view! The hospitality! The character! This place has it all. We loved our stay here, complete with howler monkey sightings and beach fun. Note that the stairs to the beach are steep so those with mobility challenges may need to find another route.
I can’t recommend staying here enough…you won’t regret it.

Gorgeous house with amazing views! It was even bigger than photos made it appear. You could hear the waves from every room. The beach was also beautiful. You could go for a walk on the beach in either direction. Best sunsets I have ever seen. The location was great and we felt very safe. Gamma and Maria, the caretakers, were fantastic. My entire family loved it. Best vacation ever!

The location has an amazing view. Gorgeous sun rise and sun sets each night. peaceful, and away from the noise and hustle and bustle. Enjoyed the pool and it's view. Enjoyed the native plants on the property. Loved the beach access for exploration and some snorkeling.

Gorgeous views and sunset. Enjoyed meeting Gama, his wife, and the house pup. Lots of fridge and freezer space, would recommend having groceries delivered before your stay and/or transportation for meals/snacks/food.

Highly recommend if you’re looking for a very authentic 5+ star Costa Rican experience….
Cozy location, well stocked with kitchen supplies for cooking and eating. Large fridge and separate standup freezer for storing food and drink. Offers lots of outdoor covered locations for lounging, dinning and spectacular views of a secluded beach.
Great gathering room with more beach views and most importantly able to watch our favourite hockey teams in the playoffs.
Couple of good friendly restaurants within easy walking distance.
Wonderful house keeper and amazing property pup.

The house itself is wonderful with swimming pool, large kitchen, lots of outdoor seating under the covered patio and private bedrooms with comfortable beds. The pictures honestly don't do it justice. The location is also fantastic. Great views and just down the stairs is a beautiful beach, Playa Blanca. At low tide the snorkeling is surprisingly good and at higher tide we were also able to boogie board. We had a wonderful stay and I would highly recommend it.

If you want the perfect blend of family-friendly spacious house, pool, and ocean with playable beach...this is the place for you. It was more than sufficient for our group of 10, including 6 kids. Property manager was easy to communicate with, and even a minor plumbing issue was addressed quickly. Wish we were still there.

We stayed in the house in February with 4 young kids and 4 adults. Grounds and views were amazing. Caretakers Gama and Irene immediately took care of any issues and the house was very clean all week.
Reasonable to expect some WiFi issues in the remote area. We notified Georgina of the issues and he had someone out the next day to upgrade the system.
House is not air-tight. We had some bugs, lizards, and grasshoppers all week,. Our four year old had mosquito bites after the first night. Irene said the previous group kept doors open and immediately sprayed the entire house for bugs. This was not a huge issue.
Other review mentioned stopping at the Super in Santa Cruz. We stopped, but did not have much success. The super south of Tamarindo was better. A local also recommended the Super Compro in 27 de Abril.
Great house. Highlights of the trip were: Snorkeling at adjacent playa blanca, scoping out tide pools everywhere, beautiful sandy playa junquillal, ambiance and pizza at Kon Tiki in Playa Negra, seeing abundant wildlife including monkeys, frogs and a small snake, iguanas, whales, turtles, a starfish and crabs .

The property was lovely and gave us continuous views of the Pacific Ocean. Sunsets were spectacular. Kitchen facilities were spacious and well stocked. Irene and Gama were very friendly, helpful and efficient. Our only regret was the inability for our entire group of 8 to get to the beach by way of the steps because of their poor condition. The ability to access the beach from the yard would have been the topping on the cake for this property! We were not able to buy fish from the fish seller. -- a disappointment for sure but we shopped at the local stores regularly. A wonderful vacation in Costa Rica for our family who had gathered from around the world. Thank you!

Beautiful property overlooking the Pacific. Sprawling house with plenty of room to spread out. Caretakers Maria and Gamma were terrific hosts that also helped out with some minor medical needs. Property Manager Georgina was great with advice and making sure we got fresh fish from the once a week truck delivery and bakery truck stops at the property.

Great location. 5 Star outdoor living space. Lovely grounds. Superb beach. Will return.

Beautiful house with stellar views. Gama and Maria were great. Maria came everyday to clean so house was immaculate. Gama was always available to help when we needed something. Georgina responded quickly with answers to our questions. Could really use more stools in the kitchen-ones that are comfortable. We had 3 days of pouring rain with wind which made it impossible to eat and sit outside. It was just the two of us there. If we had had our family with us, it would have been very difficult.

Stayed here for 8 days in August 2022. Can’t find words to describe how special this property is. Truly a gem to be experienced if you treasure being on the ocean as opposed to “minutes” to the ocean. Extremely large and well appointed home with ocean front pool and beautiful decor. Gama the on site manager addresses all challenges and questions with a smile and easy nature. Maria his wife cleans the home every day at 10 am. Best VRBO we have ever stayed at. 45 mins to Tamarindo shops/surfing/banks/gas/groceries/nightlife. 5 min drive to basic grocery store with enough to get you through (wine and beer there too). Bigger grocery store 3 mins further. Ocean is the mainstay here. Not really walking distance to anything else. Restaurants 5 mins away by car. This place is epic. A place you will want to go back to.
Thank you!

Our group loved our stay at Coco Flotantes. The on site caretakers were friendly and took excellent care of the home during our stay.
6.0
Coco Flotante is truly rustic but needs better TLC and regular maintenance. There are missing and cracked tiles, broken light fixtures and mirrors and shelves. Some of the kitchenware really need to be replaced. The roof has several leaks especially the one in the second bedroom upstairs need to be attended to. The exterior staircase is very slippery especially when it rains. They need to add a few more steps to the stairs going down to the beach like the neighbor's stairs extended all the way the sand instead of climbing over the rocks. This is not very safe for young kids and seniors.
The outdoor facilities are the best part of this property. The sunsets are second to none.

Best. House. Ever.
If you want something off the beaten path with isolation and relaxation in mind, this is it! It is also close enough to do lots of fun things. The pool, the beach, the hammocks. Wonderful eclectic house with so much character and enchantment. Most amazing experience. Gama and Maria were terrific and not at all intrusive. We enjoyed them and their dogs very much.

Perfect
Wonderful experience for all of us at Coco Flotante. Georgina helped us with last minute delays, the on-site caretakers were wonderful. The pictures don’t do this place justice. We appreciated the recommendations for where to eat and all were spot on. It is impossible not to relax at this house. We loved every minute!

A must stay
You pull into the property from the dirt road an it’s like seeing unicorns on a rainbow farm. Amazing. Two stories and 180 degree view of the Pacific. Huge lawn to take in view and if you get warm just ease into the pool! We left the house on day one for a little while to go to the beach and came back to find our house was immaculate! There are two fabulous care takers that live on property that super nice and they take care of the house and the pool daily. There is AC in every room so no worries there. Can’t say enough about this place. If you didn’t leave to do anything, relaxing and heading down to the beach via your private staircase would be just fantastic! We would stay here again no questions asked.

A true Costa Rica experience
Coco Flotante’s covered patio, lawn, view and access to the beach are perfect. Home layout is great for eight or more people. Does have outside staircase to upper floor with bedroom 3 & 4 and bathroom 3. Two king master bedrooms and two baths downstairs. You should most definitely fly into Liberia airport and rent a car. Be aware that you will eventually travel on gravel/dirt roads to the house and to many of the local restaurants. If you want to truly experience Costa Rica and not stay in some hermetically sealed resort environment, this is a wonderful place to rent. Caretakers Gamma & Irene and their two dogs were wonderful. Georgina answered all questions and was so helpful. Jackpoll was an outstanding chef who cooked once for us at the house. Favorite restaurants: villa deeveno, Guacamaya lodge, Lochito’s amongst many others.

Costa Rica adventure
Everything was A*-Georgina was the best in making sure it was all we dreamed of, all her guidance was invaluable from hiring a private chef, transportation, fishing tour to navigating Covid requirements! The house was so clean, private, great beach access, off-the-chain sunsets!! We had a wonderful time with our 3 adult children who fell in love with the two delightful dogs on the premises. We enjoyed the isolation, walking approx 1/2 mile for market and lunch, that could be a deterrent for some tourists???? Just what we were looking for in our Costa Rica adventure!

Fantastic.
Needed a place with pool and close to beach for my family - husband and 6 adult children in their early 20s. Coco Flotante fit the bill perfectly. Loads of space so everyone could convene but also escape for time away from it all. The grounds were spectacular. Beautifully maintained and spectacular views of the sunsets every night. The beaches were incredible. To the North it’s a bit rocky but wander south a bit and we found the widest longest and remarkably deserted beach we’ve ever seen with soft sand that goes out for a long long way with big rolling waves to play in. Gama the caretaker and the housekeeper did a Beautiful job keeping things tidy. The only downside for the younger members of our group is that it is a good 45 minutes from tamarindo so no nightlife to be had at all. But honestly we didn’t really miss it. Overall, highly recommend the house. We had a fantastic holiday.

The view the view the view BUT
View is amazing but for the $ you would be better off staying at a facility that would cater to small simple things. If you don’t bring it you won’t have it. Extremely little paper products , no first aid at all ( youngest got a four inch laceration to her leg from jagged tile in pool step) and extremely little help from on site caretaker. Six hours from San Jose easily which should be clearly stated to guests. Arrived almost at midnight from 3pm landing in San Jose. Directions were extremely unclear for first time visitors. Great view but would not recommend or stay again.

Very Nice Place with a Great View
We just spent 4 days at this property and loved it. We had two families with 10 people total and had plenty of beds for everyone. The property is a little bit away from the busy tourist areas, but very nice if you are looking for a more intimate quiet house. On the backside of the property and just down a few steps is beautiful beach with lots of sea life. If you walk down the beach to the south about a half a mile you have access to a great beach with great surfing. There were several days we were on the beach and were lucky to see more than a handful of people. The property manager was very responsive as well as the booking agent. The kitchen is large and well equipped. The outdoor space is fantastic with plenty of seating and eating areas. If you are looking for a nice quiet property within a 30 minute drive of Tamarindo, then this is a great place to stay. I will say the air conditioning was a nice feature to have in the house.
