Lovely owner who showed us around the cottage and was close by and responsive to any issues. The cottage is light and peaceful, with fantastic views of the cathedral, well-heated and well-equipped.

We like Winchester a lot, and this visit was enhanced by choosing to stay at this cottage, rather than one of the many hotels located in the heart of the city.
The property is ideally located (just a 10 minute walk from the city centre), and is situated on a relatively quiet no-through road, so traffic is light.
It is light and airy throughout, and has a warm cosy feel to it, with a unique decorative charm that is a welcome change to the universal blandness of modern properties.
The rear yard is a little small and enclosed, however there are some superb open green spaces just a minute or so walk away, so if you are travelling with a dog who prefers grass to hard standing (as ours does) then you are well catered for.
Winchester is an expensive place to visit, stay (and live). This cottage is probably at the premium end of the price range, however it does provide an excellent location and good range of facilities for the visitor.
The property is old (grade 2 listed) so you need to be aware that the ceilings are lower than modern houses (especially upstairs), and in a couple of places in the upper bedrooms, the roof lines have interesting angles that will catch the unwary head of taller people (especially at night).
Parking is only available in dedicated places within the area (permit-based) so you may not be able to park close to the property, so you need to be prepared to walk to-and-fro when loading/unloading luggage/children etc.

Cosy cottage, well-situated, with all the facilities we could need.

Real nice Cottage, great location, sufficient facilities, decent size rooms., easy walking distance from the high street. I would definitely stay again but would bring my family with for a mini break. The activities on the high street was full of life with all types of families despite the horrendously miserable weather.
Although we had a parking permit to park in a permitted area on the street it was dependant on whether there was space available. This did affect me as I was inclined to walk rather then drive as I didn't want to find there was no available parking spaces on my return.

Fabulous quiet location just a short walk from the city centre. Clean and comfortable little cottage with everything you need.
Liked everything, but taller people would have bumped their heads a lot!

Very friendly contact to the owner just around the corner, easy to reach the central city or the nearest bus stations. (Train station is a little away, but no problem to reach by bus or a longer walk.)
The cottage itself is an old house with sloping wooden beams, but it has a warm and cosy atmosphere. Winchester has kept a lot of his historical charme and this cottage adds perfectly to it.
Good to know: Gas oven is there, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer and two seperate bedrooms (4 beds in total).
No dislike, just a hint: If you have trouble with stairs then you might have a hard time in Winchester at all (it's hilly) and with the cottage in special. The shortest way to the cottage is a steep road (alternatives available) and the stairs from ground floor to the bedrooms are more steep than you might be used to. (if you aren't familiar with old houses)

We loved this property. It was well equipped, comfortable, quiet and very close to the city centre …. 15 minutes walk.
Nothing to dislike at all.

Nothing! It was all amazing

Good location, charming exterior and well equipped kitchen, good decorative condition.
Too many repairs needed the cottage is badly in need of TLC, particularly in the bathroom. Badly stained toilet pan, toilet roll holder falling off and on the wrong way, shower screen broken and fan temperamental. Sofa in a very poor state, strained carpets, window catches missing or broken throughout. No fan in bed 2, no instructions for boiler or cooker in welcome pack and no towels on arrival, blinds broken in bedroom 1, front door needs adjusting and so on. Disappointing particularly as other reviews have mentioned issues.

Great location, close to town, bus routes and nature reserve.
Front door a little bit stiff.

We had a great stay in this characterful little cottage with modern amenities. Warm and cosy. Comfortable beds. The cottage is in a convenient location for strolling down the hill into town, with convenient parking just outside. The hosts live right nearby and were friendly and helpful.

Charming and comfortable. Brilliantly located for walking into the town and along the river. Very well kitted out with everything one need for self catering.

Very comfortable cottage, in a very good location. It felt friendly and welcoming. We had a lovely visit and would definitely stop again.
Could have done with more information on how the appliances and heating worked. The courtyard garden out the back was lovely but if you have a dog with you it would be useful to have a patch of greenery or gravel for them to wee on so you don't have to take them down the road last thing at night.

Easy to find, walking distance to town, very sweet property
Agree with previous comment that the bed was too soft for comfort. Also it was a double, so not much room!

Beggar's Lane Cottage was absolutely perfect for us. Nick and Dotty are friendly but unobtrusive hosts. It is a charming quintessential English cottage - even with roses round the door - and located a short walk from the city centre with wonderful views across trees and rooftops to the Cathedral. The decor is in simple good taste with real furniture and everything you need. Alfie (cat) felt very comfortable and enjoyed sunning himself in the charming enclosed courtyard garden behind the property. Winchester has a lovely compact city centre with a fascinating and long history, all easily accessible by foot. We thoroughly enjoyed the short time we spent there and would have liked to stay longer.
