Location
No service on room on first day.

Lovely old world pub in a lovely 14/15th century village
Great area.
Food was good.
No iron in the room, but we did have an ironing board 🤷🏻‍♀️
Club bar was cold on first afternoon.
4.3
In a nearby location to visit friends - which is why we booked and breakfast was good !
Bedroom was very small and dark with uneven floor - very expensive with no finesse or attention to detail . No bottled water usb points or accessible wi fi not even a mirror in room - very poor - stayed at much better places for a lot less money !
Bar prices very expensive too and had run out of beer which we found very strange ? All in all not a great experience wouldn’t return
4.3
Beautiful old building and decorated/furnished appropriately. Lovely well tended garden.
No shower curtain in bathroom.
4.3
Fabulous dinner, great menu, quality ingredients, beautifully presented
Tiny room, no shower just a bath with 'hand shower' attachment, but nowhere to put it
4.3
Garden was amazing . Great view
Booking was incorrect and didn’t get the grade of room I had confirmed . The staff were disinterested in trying to sort it out . Biggest disappointment was the customer service
4.3
Good breakfast.
Some of the bedrooms were very noisy. The cost was not good value, particularly bearing in mind the late night noise.
4.3
Lovely old building. Nicely furnished bedroom and bathroom. Lovely breakfast in the courtyard in the morning.
The small fan provided didn't do much so the room was really hot and stuffy during the night. Tiny shower with very little room to even turn around but pressure was good at least.
4.3
Room was superb. Bed super comfortable, with impeccable bed linen, and towels. Wonderful grounds.
Restaurant definitely not up to reputation. Not enough choice and some menu items not available. No tomato ketchup!
Breakfast menu had many items to include spinach but there was no spinach. No pastries offered , only toast (no croissants, for example).
4.3
Old world charm, lots of character
No dislikes

The big overhead shower
A little cramped

Great view from the garden and that's about it.
We'd previously stayed here before in a standard room and thought everything was great, this time we were given a room next door in Griffin house, and to say it was tiny is an understatement, a small double bed, a broken chest of draws and a tiny cupboard are all you get with an ensuite crammed into the corner. The staff are too busy chatting, our breakfast on Saturday was accompanied by the staff talking at full volume about how yucky the skin on rice pudding. Sundays breakfast was again accompanied by the staff talking about who was doing what shift that day totally clueless that there was no juice on the table, people were waiting to order food or are waiting for their morning coffee. Concentrate on the paying guests in front of you, not what may or may not happen later in the day

Old quirky room (obviously 500 years old)
Bed was super comfortable. Quite location.
No shower facilities. Large bath with a mixer tap/shower handle. No shower curtain. 1 night stay so not a problem.
4.3
The food. The breakfast was excellent and had great choice. Dinner off of the restaurant menu was very very good, sea bass 10 out of 10. We did not try the bar menu. Staff very friendly and offer good service. The bed was really comfortable.
Difficult to fault. However not the Griffins problem, but approach the Inn from the main road, after Piltdown village. Sat nav took us around miles of lanes some single track and most with massive potholes! A real problem if you are not on pothole alert.

Lovely location.
The staff had the impression that they thought they were giving amazing service but they don't. The restaurant staff were slow and didn't listen. The bar staff were so slow it was painful. We were the only customers in the bar but it took 5 minutes to serve 4 drinks. The morning breakfast was great if you like eggs done a dozen different ways. The waitress didn't write down our order saying she's been doing the job for some time and can remember. She got our order totally wrong. When we came to check out, there were two other guests in front, both of whom complained about their room. The staff didn't care or offer an apology. We didn't sleep all night due to some sort of fan that sounded like a helicopter all jight. Again, there is no form of apology. Totally arrogant attitude. Wasn't impressed. In all overpriced for an average room that didn't even have a shower.

Very welcoming and friendly team.
Comfortable hotel

The breakfast was very good and the staff were welcoming. Nice toiletries
The welcome at the hotel. My friends had left me birthday presents in my room. Not a mention from the hotel. Wrong room type given to what we had paid for. Service at dinner not great. Server didn’t clear up our dinner plates after we had eaten or come back to see if we wanted pudding.
All a little disappointing:
ÂŁ29 for my main. ÂŁ32 for husbands. Not good value for money. All a little bit underwhelming. Will not be returning

Crisp white bedlinen, good bedside reading lamps, big bath tub
4.3
Lovely old pub and friendly staff
The room was a little ´cosy’ - but we obviously knew the size when booking
4.3
it had a lovely atmosphere and was very welcoming
our room was rather small but as it was an old building and we were only staying one night, it was not a problem.
4.3
A lovely place to stay with excellent food; great breakfast and exceptional evening meals. The staff were very helpful and the room was comfortable and spacious.
We had a roll top bath, nice in itself, but you had to sit in it to shower or else the water went on the floor.
4.3
The Griffin Inn is a lovely old pub. All the staff were lovely and friendly. Both the breakfast and all our evening meals were delicious. The seating area inside and out is lovely. There is an outside covered area and then masses of space with benches over looking amazing scenery. The outside lighting at night, gives it a nice feel.
The letdown was the bedroom. We were in Bluebell. It is an old pub, so we were expecting quirky. Ceiling is very low. The main concern was there was no shower, just a roll-top bath, with a handheld shower attachment. Although it all looks nice, it's really not practical. The room would be no good for anyone with mobility issues. Feel it's overpriced for what you are getting.

Good service, good food, good room

Huge gardens with beautiful countryside views. The rooms were lovely and clean and the shower was great. Staff were very friendly but came across as if everything was hectic! They are very busy over lunch and in the evenings and are running around, resulting in sometimes forgetting to bring something over etc but all in all were very nice people who worked hard and nothing was too much trouble.
Whilst the property has parking it is not reserved parking and so was a nightmare - it would have been better if guests had reserved parking spaces - it is very popular for lunch and evening food and so we had to park way way up the road on the street - long stay car park was full also.
Food was ok but menus are very "designer" - probably just us as we are quite fussy with what we like and don't like - but to be fair it has won awards so guessing this is just our personal view. The lunch menu is the same as the evening menu, and there is no alternative bar food at lunch time, like panini's for example,
Needed a taxi in evening and didn't appreciate we needed to have probably booked one earlier in week - all the numbers provided were already booked and so we ended up having to drive to our event we had travelled for. Not The Griffin fault but just mentioning for any future visitors purpose.

The very friendly and accommodating welcome on arrival. My wife has to use a wheelchair for several weeks and the manager could not have more helpful. The food was excellent.
The drinks were a little pricey and you could pay a lot for a bottle of wine, but it is a hotel and to be expected, however ÂŁ1.50 for a small splash of coke in a short drink...

Iconic village location
Rooms (lowest rate doubles) were a little on the small side
