Beautiful location and had all the amenities.
There were flies in the house and no fly swatters to kill them. We didn’t have extra toilet paper and we didn’t see the property managers. We barely spoke to them.

Lovely location. A lot of reviews seem to suggest issues checking in. We found this very straight forward ourselves so not something to worry about.
It is very basic and you may find it too small for 4 people! Not a problem if you know what to expect.

we had some trouble with our plumbing and they upgraded us to a working cabin immediately and came immediately if we had any issues.

I didn’t actually end up staying here. Service is terrible.
go look elsewhere. the lady at receptionist doesn’t answer the phone & there is no one there to help.
ended up waiting in the cold for hours- with no calls answered. we booked elsewhere.

Slightly outdated. Stairs to mezzanine might be dangerous for some

I received my confirmation email through booking.com the day of check-in. It listed my cottage and the code to enter the cottage. Very easy. It was a beautiful place to stay - you have several other small cottages or pods next to you, but it is very quiet. You are sleeping next to a mountain, amazing. It is small - but it has a nice shower and enough space, but it was cramped with four of us, but workable. I would definitely stay here again, but would ensure I was equipped with check-in information.
There was another family that did NOT receive the cottage number or the code. They booked through Hotel.com. There was a number to call and a "free phone" in the main lodge area. The phone did not work. We tried it and the other family tried it. Her email did not have the cottage # or code, so they could not get in. Hotel.com tried to help, but they could not reach manager. Ultimately, the family went to another place (remote Iceland) which was full, and the nice host there put mattresses in the back for them. Nightmare. Because the Wifi is so sketchy, you NEED this info before you get to property.
For my stay, I would say it just needs hooks! You can't hang a thing other than over the shower top. It was clean and nicer on the inside than one may anticipate from the rustic outside. For some reason, our bath mat was soaked when we arrived. but it was replaced very kindly with new towels the next day.

Smart location near highlights on the South Coast. 2 seperate bed rooms for 4 people cottages whereas most other cottages offer one large space to be shared. All basic needs available: towels, bed linen, soap, water kettle...
Some windows and doors did not open/close well, very tiny space, outdoor patio with patio furniture were too dirty to enjoy sitting outside. No staff on site, no prior message from the management how to identify our allocated cottage. No garbage sorting.

Check in could be better. The free phone in the adjacent building did not work to get in touch with management for the key code/cabin number. Luckily a fellow traveller let me use his cell phone to dial the number and I was able to get the check in info. I don't know what I would do otherwise...

Location is beautiful as all Iceland is
I booked in May through booking.com and selected direct payment to North Star Cottage at 260,00€.
July is peak season and very few other accomodation are offered in the area.
2 days before check-in they claimed my cc was rejected. My MasterCard still had funds but I changed it with my husband's. It also had funds but was also rejected. New message and new Amex added via booking.com. Both boking.com and North Star contacted in the meantime but could not support: I suggested to find other form of payment but could not accept any and did not accept to switch payment through booking.com.
Also Amex was rejected. Althought all 3 cc had plenty of funds reservation was cancelled the evening before arrival.
The cottage was immediately available again for sale on booking.com at 486€.
I had two minor kids with me and could not run the risk to sleep in the car: I booked again via booking.com with payment through booking.com using one of the 3 cc North Star claimed had tried to charge and payment was successfull at nearly double the price!!!!
Once back I tried to obtain refund of 226€ extra charge but it was refused, both by booking.com and from North Star which did not even answer (to me and to booking.com itself)
Booking.com demanded evidence of the charge attempt from the cc service provider, which I contacted: they cannot provide any evidence or declaration.
Cottage was also probably the worst accomodation I was in during one week trip around Iceland.
Stay away!

This was our favorite place we stayed. It was just the right size for our family of 4, it had all the things we needed (towels, coffee maker, microwave, etc) and the beds were comfortable with black out shades. The location was beautiful and close to a hot spring. We would have loved staying much longer here.
It was a bit confusing getting into the cottage but quickly a nice man from the property management arrived and let us in. They just need to fix the phone on-site in reception building to prevent confusion.

The location was good.
The cottages have seen better days, and now seem neglected maintenance-wise. Radiator missing from the bathroom, windows would not shut properly, water stains inside, lack of mirror in bathroom by the sink, etc. The cabin felt cold and damp, fortunately it was July. Luckily we paid a much lower price in 2020 than they normally charge which would otherwise have been very bad value.

I was about to write a quite good comment, because the cottages (we booked 3 cottages) were ok. The localization in nature was also nice...but my husband was badly bitten by bugs in his bed. Before giving recommendation here, I wrote to the owners about this and sent photos of the bites...but of course, there was no answer, not even single "sorry, we will do something about this for the next clients"...And I really don't like when after you finish your stay, the owners stop caring about anything connected with you.
Except that my husband was bitten by bugs in his bed, I got the message far after I booked (and paid) the cottages, that check-in later than 21:00 is not possible. Fortunately we managed to check-in earlier, but if the roads condition was bad (which is highly possible in Iceland in winter) and we were not there earlier, the owners wouldn't not care about our accommodation. I don't like this kind of treatment.

It was close to the attractions we had for the time we were here. Location was pretty cool to begin with. Beds were comfy.
The shower was tiny and hard to maneuver. Also, when standing, the shower floor felt uneven.
