Perfectly situated for our Oldfield Forge Experience.
Clean, great food, friendly hosts. Lovely stay.
Staircase to the room was hard to navigate. No bannister, twisty, big steps, I have a dodgy back but would be easy for younger, fitter folk.
Steak pie and chips were gorgeous (I could've drank a pint of the gravy) but came with no veg or salad. Portions were massive. Would've gave up half the chips and meat for a bit of 🥦 and a few 🥕

Lovely room and breakfast. Friendly pub and staff. Peaceful and relaxing. Amazing curry night on a Tuesday.
Food not available every night, nothing else around if you don’t drive.

The Breakfast was spot on. Location was perfect for us.
Felt the bathrooms including public bathroom could be little cleaner. Tile grout, doors and floor bit more cleaner. There were a few cobwebs on the old stone.

Food was excellent, it was a shame the restaurant wasn't open on the Wednesday evening, but we were aware of this at the time. However, there was a lot of snow at the time when we stayed, and we had to resort to getting an Indian Takeaway on the Weds evening as it wasn't reallly safe to drive anywhere in the snow. The staff happily providd us with plates and cutlery though. The staff were also lovely, very helpful. The Sun room was clean and spacious, and it was a great location for The Old Forge.
The wifi signal was poor - and trying to get the internet was almost impossible! We managed to find a spot in the little lobby between our bedroom and bathroom where it worked, luckily long enough for us to order our takeaway. There was also no phone signal from our room. I suspect this may have been to do with the remote location rather than the place itself, but it wasn't helpful. In addition, when we arrived, the heating wasn't on - we had to go down to the bar to get it put on, so the room took a while to warm up. It also went off on the Thursday morning while we were still in the room after breakfast (we were going out at lunchtime) so again, we had to ask for it to be put back on. There was a cold draught coming in from the bathroom and bedroom windows (again probably due to the age of the property, no double glazing) so the heating was definitely needed. The plug in the bathroom sink wouldn't stay down, and one of the bulbs in the room had blown. There were a few small cobwebs on the exposed brickwork too, but quite high up, everywhere else was very clean.

The breakfast was great. The staff were amazing, really friendly
The beds were super soft, very uncomfortable. You can hear quite literally everything. Even your neighbours in the next room

Room, breakfast, location
The only thing that we can think of is that the restaurant where we had breakfast wasn't quite warm enough for us. The warmth of the rest of the place was excellent .
All very good. We would stay here again and would eat here if we were here for longer.

The Inn is very old, a young family are now making very tasteful repairs, the staff are kind, polite and very efficient, the bar food we had was served in good time and was very nice. Our room was fabulous, fridge, fresh milk, bottled water, huge bathroom and very comfy bedroom looking out over green fields, we have stayed previously it’s now much better we will definitely return on our next visit to Monmouthshire!
I’d have liked to have larger white fluffy warm towels…I know it’s trivial.

Good location for walking in the countryside

Liked the location for going on walks. Price was good. Not too far from town. It was clean
There was no food on the night we went and it’s not within walking distance of a restaurant (we both wanted to drink as we were away!). We bought sandwiches and ate in the room but would have preferred to have a hot meal

Friendly staff in a very 'country' building. Room, bed were very comfortable and a well presented and tasty breakfast was enjoyed.
Stairs to rooms were a little steep, we managed fine but not sure if we will be able to in a couple of years. There could be ground floor rooms but not sure.

A charming Inn in an idyllic situation, surrounded by beautiful rolling countryside. Lovely breakfast served by very friendly host. Plenty of off road parking was great. Children's park opposite but far enough across the common so no noise issue! Lovely en-suite facilities.
Can't think of anything!

Ash, the host, was fantastic! Super friendly!
He was very accommodating and the room
was very nice. Best fish and chips we’ve had
in a long time, too.
We could only check in from 5.00 which was a little
inconvenient.

Immaculate room. Comfortable bed. Great hospitality tray and despite not being able to have a cooked breakfast due to staff illness, cereals and juice and yoghurt were provided. Very friendly, communicative staff. Amazing location and stunning view.
That we only could stay one night!!

Breakfast was very good
Arrived on a Wednesday to find there were only burgers available on Wednesday and Thursday, you should be made aware of that information when you book. We were only allowed to eat in the bar which was very busy with locals enjoying a drink so we felt a bit out of place. As a result we ate somewhere else on the Thursday evening. It was a shame, because the burgers we had on the Wednesday and the food we had on Friday from the main menu were very good. As a result we've given less stars.
