The owners were very friendly and made sure we were comfortable.
3.0 / 10.0
The setting is magnificent with beautiful vista's towards the majestic Drakensberg. The rooms were very clean and spacious with a lovely uncovered patio with large table and 6 chairs.
The host was not present.
We felt that we were given their children's room and a storeroom for linen. No space to unpack, hang and stack clothes. Although all the facilities were there for self-catering, e.g. Crockery, cutlery, wine glasses etc (even fine China teacups and saucers) when we asked for a bottle opener and a knife to prepare a meal, we were told it is 'a strictly B&B room'. Kitchen facilities were compressed in a narrow passage between two bedrooms.
I can provide photos to corroborate the above.
The absent owner, Tex, reaffirmed their stance and made no effort to try and make our stay more comfortable by offering basic short-comings like body wash and shampoo, washing liquid for dishes, sponge and dishcloths. It was the lack of attention to detail and 'take it or leave it' attitude that made up our minds to leave when offered a refund for the second day.
In fairness, we were provided with a knife, cutting board and dishcloths
The 'gracious breakfast' promised consisted of All Bran flakes, fruit and a very basic hot breakfast, which was served by a surly assistant.
I would have accepted a refund on the first day if offered.
The booking was also problematic as a third party contacted us to demand full payment before arrival. I contacted the owner who sent a curt reply that the third party was their collecting agent and 'in any way we don't have credit card facilities. Really? In this technological age?
After a spate of Whatsapp messages and the third party the balance, which was not paid via Booking.com, was paid over. Felt like I was going to do them in after paying 50% deposit.
One of those experiences, we would rather forget.
Right to reply: Deflecting blame when service is not up to standard is really poor manners. I am attaching photos that support our experience. Your allegation of trying 'back-door payments' is a blatant lie trying to justify not having credit card facilities.

The hosts are really great. They were available over the phone the entire time, they were there to greet us on arrival and Tex the owner even helped carry our bags. Thusiwe, the lady who helps with the cleaning and cooking, took care of us like we were family. The breakfast was my favourite part, it was so good and filling. The owners also helped us figure out things to do in the area. They were kind and helpful. The place was clean, very. Also, they had hot water bottles for the cold nights (the best for me)
The rooms are attached by a shared kitchen so you and the guest in the other room could run into each other at odd times of the day or night. However, we felt safe. It was just a little awkward

The location is good, and the garden is very pretty. The dogs were super friendly and we enjoyed them very much.
