I had a great time at the Tiko Community. The people there were super cool and friendly đđž
There is no kitchen to cook for yourself.

I really enjoyed staying there, very nice and local experience. Staff is very friendly and helpful, food is absolutely fantastic, if somehow would like to experience real Africa - this is a place to go, also perfect for volunteers.
My house was close to the bar, which is across the street, but the music was so loud that I was feeling like I am inside the big party but it stops around 10pm :) Haha welcome to Africa :) It is indeed a part of the local experience.

Friendliest people ever. Great food. The place oozes authenticity.
Plastic mattress covering. Could use some freshening up.

I visited Tikondane Community Centre which is a really good place for people who looks to know the real Africa. When I visited this place, I found authentic people, very polite, friendly and smiling all the time. they have a school with 80 kids and you can see how they work with the children and share with them. They will just give you love, energy and a lot of beautiful smiles. You can really have an intercultural understanding exchange. In the other hand, I could notice that my visit, was helping a lot of people, because Tikondane has 75 local workers, all of them depending of Tikondane, they are a big community now and they work together to keep this place alive. I love to do sustainable tourism and this place was great for that, they have vegetables crops, animals and they are producing their own food to feed the animals, amazing, isnât it? Itâs a really quiet and relaxing place, where you can wake up very early, walk a little bit and start your day with a beautiful sunrise, watching the local crops, continue with a delicious breakfast cooked by his local chef and then, have an educational tour to learn about their wonderful projects to continue the process to be auto-sustainable. I really recommend you Tikondane in Katete, you can learn a lot about permaculture, African culture, and support a community which work as one and are happy to share their culture with us. Our visits, permit them, to keep their lodge and restaurant alive, you will enjoy and also, your visit will have a good purpose, letâs travel with purpose!. Thanks for everything!

It was a big surprise. I wonât talk much about the room because itâs not about the room, which was surprisingly comfortable anyway, but it is, in fact, about everything else. First, I was so charmed by the surrounding; the place looked like a paradise oasis. Very green, preserved nature, very well maintained but more than everything I was delighted by the people warm welcoming. They are so smiling, kind and friendly that I directly felt at home.
I spend the time knowing about the place, there is so many things happening just inside the community, so much to discover and learn in such a small area. Those people live in the future, itâs obvious that they understood the climate change and environmental crisis we are facing because everything they created is thought to face it. They are an example for resilience and for the inevitable ecological transition every country will have to complete soon or later.
It is more than just an hotel, it is a center of permaculture combined with a tourism lodged run by local peoples. Therefore, it responds to the big tree prior issues of any project, Economic, environmental and social. And I definitely think that in the future with a good tourism income it will only grow and help more and more people from Katete to get out of poverty. Actually, the community even come up with a ââ22 steps out of povertyââ method that anyone can discover when they go there. So, for a traveler or tourist to find such a place is definitely a blessing and big surprise, itâs the kind of place that balance so well the tourism comfort and entertainment with the authenticity of local culture and traditional roots, that you feel safe visiting it and still when you visited it you can say, ââI visited the real Africaââ.
