The first impression of the property was that it was pristinely cleaned. Other features include top of the line kitchen appliances. The local caretaker did an excellent job on responding to questions. We do suggest that non-skid backers be placed under several small carpets to reduce fall risk. It should also be noted that the stairs are steep and highly finished, care is needed to avoid a slip. As the owner requests that shoes not be worn in the house, adding carpet or other product to stairway to improve traction would improve safety.

Absolute gem, house is elegant and extremely well equipped, especially kitchen. Beautiful light & views. Southwest Harbor town center is nearby with nice restaurants, cafes, and shops. Will return!

The view was even better than expected. Gorgeous sunset and (a way too early) sunrise views. We loved sitting on the porch morning and evening. 25 minutes from Bar Harbor but it was so nice to be away from the crowds. Kitchen is very well stocked. Beds were comfortable and there were plenty of towels. I would return!

This house will not disappoint! We’ve stayed in a lot of great places with VRBO, but this was the best. The minute we walked in, we knew this was a special place. It was so tastefully appointed from the furnishings, to the high end well stocked kitchen, & everything in between. The amazing view of the harbor is quintessential New England. We had great weather. We did sunrise on Cadillac Mt, all kind of hikes, e-bikes in Acadia, sunset boat tour & shopped Bar Harbor. Lots of restaurants in area, too. We hope to be back. Just a lovely vacation for all of us. Our host was very accommodating. Thank you!

This house is wonderful; it is beautifully decorated and well furnished with all supplies. The view of the harbor is a pleasure every day and it is conveniently located 1.5 miles from the town. We have stayed here multiple times and very much look forward to returning again next summer.

This house had everything needed for a relaxing stay. Kitchen made for a gourmet chef with high end equipment and cooking tools. Kitchen and supplies very organized. Plenty of tourist brochures and maps for those planning excursions. Unbeatable view of Somes Sound Harbor and Acadia mountains and we enjoyed watching boats coming and going in working South West Harbor. Beautiful gardens and private back yard and patio. Wrap around porch had several areas to sit and enjoy the view in comfortable chairs and table for enjoying a meal outside. Water views from all rooms. Tastefully decorated with Maine in mind. Beautiful modern bathrooms. Bedrooms all with unique nautical themes and generous storage. We came during a heat wave but ceiling fans and supplemental fans helped plus the sea breeze through the large picture windows was heaven. The house is situated on the "quiet" side of Mount Desert Island but close to everything within Acadia National Park. Thirty minute drive to Bar Harbor for whale watching outing. Grocery store 10 minutes away. Every town we drove through was a quaint New England town. Five minute drive to lots of great restaurants and sights. We highly recommend this vacation home and would love to come back.

Lovely stay and looking forward to booking again. Close to Acadia with all it has to offer plus sitting on the porch and watching the boats (and fog) come and go.

A wonderful place!!!
This home is beautiful and the harbor views are terrific.
We have stayed here before and cannot wait to return once again. All went seamlessly with the arrangements and all we had to do was to enjoy ourselves, which we did!

Fantastic home, location, and host!
Our entire group loved this house and our stay there. The kitchen is the best-equipped one any of us had encountered in a rental, complete with high-quality knives and other helpful tools for cooking and even baking. Whether inside or outside, we all found great areas to sit and read or work, and enjoyed the great communal space between the living room, kitchen, and dining area. Other amenities were great: high-quality bedding and towels, plenty of games and magazines to keep you occupied, etc. Location is very convenient to Acadia National Park, the towns of Southwest Harbor and Bar Harbor, kayaking at Long Pond, and so on. The area is very peaceful, and we would spot 20 or more deer while taking an evening walk. We loved it and would come back again!
A couple of details that may be of interest as you plan:
- The office is a real bonus if anyone in your group will be working during your stay. It does not have a door, though--something to keep in mind when thinking about noise or motion in the background.
- The smallest bedroom really is a child's bedroom, with a twin trundle bed with both foot and head touching the walls. (We still put an adult in there--it was tight!)

Captain's Cottage exceeded all expectations !
Everything about our one month stay in Captain's Cottage was sheer delight. The house was lovely and very comfortable, and you couldn't beat the view of Manset Harbor. From either the master bedroom or the wrap around porch, we couldn't get enough of the view. The owner, property manager/gardener, and housekeeper were all very attentive. As was Jack, the beautiful german sheppard. Very convenient location. We can't wait to return!

The perfect house in a perfect spot
Wonderful home with amazing view of southwest harbor, Somme’s sound and the mountains of Acadia. Great kitchen with a deck that will make you want to eat at the house every night. Very good communication with property manager if anything is needed.

Awesome SW Harbor house!
We've been coming to SW Harbor for 15+ years and have rented several houses. This is by far the best we've experienced. Most houses in this area have not been updated for decades, but this was different. Great kitchen (Wolf range/oven, Sub-Zero fridge, etc), roomy kitchen/dining, comfortable furniture and beds, updated bathrooms, nice grill...and the wrap-around porch and view are unbeatable. Only wish was for a shower curtain around the tub in bath upstairs. Otherwise wonderful place to stay.
Trish and Jack (caretakers) were very pleasant, helpful and responsive. Would absolutely stay here again!

This home is beautiful. I cannot say more! The harbor view is a treasure and the neighborhood walks are delightful. Suffice it to say that we cannot wait until we can plan to go again!

Our group (2 couples) stayed here the week of Labor Day and everything worked out well. Mario, the owner, was responsive and easy to deal with. Caretaker/gardener greeted us with fresh flowers and was very helpful. House is in a beautiful spot, with gorgeous views of SW Harbor from wrap-around porch- we enjoyed drinks and dinner out there. House is nicely decorated, clean (cleaning fee reflects high covid cleaning standards), has well-equipped kitchen and a good layout for our 2 couples. (Two queen bedrooms are both nice but unequal- the master is larger with en-suite bathroom and views). Only a short drive to town, and half hour to Acadia visitors center. Good base for exploring MDI. We would recommend to friends and would stay here again for sure.

Excellent week on MDI
Wonderful property away from the craziness of downtown bar harbor. Immaculately maintained property with a gorgeous view of southwest harbor to wake up to. Takes about 15-30min to get to most of the hikes and attractions in Acadia (though there are some trailheads and lakes very close by), which was perfect for us because it’s less busy when we want to relax at home in the morning and evening. I wish the master bed was bigger and more comfy (I think it was only a full, and a little outdated especially compared to the rest of the house) but otherwise it was absolutely perfect. 5*, would stay here again without hesitation.

Charming House in Great Location
This house is a little gem overlooking Southwest Harbor. The view was stunning. We never got tired of drinks/meals on the front porch watching the boats ply the harbor and tie up at the pier.

Perfection in Acadia
Captain's cottage is simply perfection. Lovely high end but quaint property in an idyllic setting and conveniently located in the quieter Southwest Harbor. The owner has provided everything for a comfortable stay. The home is beautifully decorated in a nautical theme with comfortable bedding and linens. Attention has been given to every detail and the home is immaculate. We loved hearing the ropes on masts and watching boats gently come and go from the harbor. We picked fresh herbs from the lovingly cared for patio flower pots to add to our breakfast eggs, and then enjoyed watching folks come and go for their water taxi on the front porch. We were thrilled to see deer come by in the evening to eat from the apple tree. We highly recommend this property as an added treat to the beautiful Acadia experience.

Manset Bungalow
Had a wonderful experience in Manset, my childhood hometown. The bungalow was a great place to stay and we enjoyed being on the Shore Rd. We were welcomed with vase of fresh flowers and all the amenities one could ask for. Clean, appointed well and a neighborhood of friendly people. Highly recommend this rental!
