Informed the staff when checking out that a cockroach was in the room and had to be squashed and flushed down the loo. Male assistant on reception seemed concerned and informed female manager who didn’t seem interested. She did apologise but considering we didn’t make a fuss and quietly pointed out the problem we feel that some appeasement could have been offered.

Maybe update decor in the more superior rooms
4.3
Gorgeous bedroom with beautiful peaceful views of garden.
4.3
Comfortable luxurious place, pricey but it is upmarket. Delivered on what they promised. Excellent room and had excellent breakfast and dinner.
They had no fino or similar sherries. I know this is a very specific thing but for a luxury place and luxury prices I would expected a flawless bar. I will say though the sommelier was very helpful.

We had a very pleasant stay. Staff is exceptional and really make you feel like home
4.3
the house is beautiful and we have stayed several times
some of the prices for food and drink are unacceptable
you expect to pay £7.50 for a small bottle of beer but £25 for breakfast plus 12.5% when you only had a bowl of cereal and water is ridiculous

The hotel itself is stunning. The grounds are beautiful, the house is amazing, and the decor suits the house very well. The drinks at the bar were delicious, with a well-made old-fashioned to finish off the night. Also, dinner at the Wellhouse was amazing. Great food. And the bed was comfy and big. The breakfast staff on the morning of January 3rd was fantastic - attentive, agile, quick, and friendly.
Being in the service industry, I have a hard time getting away without comparing what I do everyday with our getaways. This trip was no different. Great welcome, offer to store our bags. We went and grabbed lunch as we were early arriving, and then strolled back when we were ready (Plough Inn was delicious). When we went to dinner that evening, we didn't have a reservation but it seemed at first that was going to be an issue (even though the restaurant had all of 3 tables sat). For the first 15 minutes, it felt as though the tables with reservations received priority for drinks and orders, but we got there in the end and the food was wonderful.
The following morning, we woke up to no hot water. We had pressure, hot water in the tub, just not the shower or sinks. I alerted the front desk while we went to breakfast and asked if they could have a look while we were eating. They may have, they may not have, we will never know as there was no follow up or mention as to whether something did or did not happen. And upon checkout, another chance to ask and follow up, nothing was mentioned. I always rate our stays based on whether or not we would visit again - I'm glad we went, but I don't believe we would go back.

Just great to be back! Usual effortless elegance and lovely calm.
Afternoon tea on arrival, staying in the Dragonfly Suite (Four Poster Bed, Bathroom with underfloor heating)(Best room in the great house). Breakfast relaxed and lovely as usual, with dinner in the Well House Restaurant.
This is a delightful place to eat and well recommended for a great time!
Everything great!

A beautiful house with a relaxing ambience, set in idyllic grounds and surroundings.
Friendly, courteous and efficient staff.
Exquisite food.
Bathroom facilities were disappointing. The design and layout seemed to be for appearance sake rather than practical use.

it’s the best escape of the city noise… a romantic place…luxurious in all aspect..the nature is breath taking…rooms are stunning and special…and the staff are another story to tell..all of them are so friendly and working like bees to satisfy the guests… a huge thanks to Jayne.. she made our stay a memorable one.. she did all her best to make our stay as comfortable as it can be.. Jayne you are a wonderful person and a very responsible and capable staff .. The Lainston house are lucky to have you. basically the best choice we made so far

We booked 2 superior rooms but one was much nicer than the other one

staff and service was excellent!

Beautiful lookout from hotel but not really from room unfortunately. Breakfast was not as good as I expected although my children and wife enjoyed their own. Perhaps that is just a taste aspect but 3 out of 4 is a positive.
Only issue was their was not any space in restaurant for children and we were travelling with two so could not go without same. There was another family and when advised of same went and collected KFC. Just saying if you wang families to stay please cater for them as the cost to stay at about £800 for one night shows there is a market, if it did not show that you entertained children we would not have stayed.

Everything was except the heat. We had chosen 4 poster beds but the heat and the impossibility to open the windows properly because of the security made it difficult.
The rest was perfect

beautiful location and lovely architecture
poorly maintained, terrible service, room hot and stuffy
4.3
A beautiful hotel on a stunning location with extremely good food and friendly staff. This is what one expects when booking this class of hotel.
4.3
Marvellous staff , and accomodation.
Our room was a long way from main hotel, as we are 75 , I should have asked for a room that was closer to dining room etc.
4.3
Fabulous venue. Always exceeds expectations.
Some of the staff were foreign and it was hard to understand their English. However, they were very friendly, attentive and polite at all times.
4.3
Nice bathroom
No fridge, small room and awful cheap coffee and tea facility
4.3
House,facilities,staff all excellent.

Everything was nice, except the breakfast price not included
Breakfast price wasn’t included where the cost of the room is very high

I have used this hotel when on business in the area, and always am enchanted by the beautiful historical house, elegant reception and bedrooms, lovely food and service, and quiet country location.
The hotel provides the perfect calm and tranquil respite, to facilitate decision making in scenarios of the most complex, difficult and demanding nature.
This time I indulged my lady on holiday and experienced the true relaxed feel of the hotel.
Stayed in a “plush” room in the eves and was wowed by the level of facilities, attention to detail, kind, understanding and attentive staff, all within a house steeped in history.
Cuisine second to none, and often exceeds many other very famous hostelries.
Try the afternoon tea and you will be delighted by the precision of presentation and flavour.
The hotel has emerged at an even better level than it was pre pandemic and with a new determination to excel.
A great place for both the business and holiday traveller, and which provides great memories.
As always, a memorable experience!
All great!

Really enjoyed my stay, I do feel the breakfast price could have been included in the overall price rather than as an extra.
Everything was really nice

The property is not how it appears in photos- in actuality it is run down and shabby. The bathroom in my room was a good size with a good bath but a used shower cap was left behind the door.
The property was extremely overpriced- we paid £475 for a one night stay in a room that wasn’t clean with shabby furniture. A very basic dinner in a run down bar area cost a further £100, and to top it off we were told that as we had booked through Booking.com we would have to pay extra for our breakfast- £50 for two eggs royale! I left an item of clothing behind and was told that it would cost £10 for them to send it to me using their franking machine (not a tracked service) and if I wanted it to be tracked I needed to organise a courier myself as they couldn’t/wouldn’t drop it at the post office. I was so disappointed- it was my partner’s birthday but it wasn’t a treat at all- and so incredibly expensive.
