The Altura is a great choice for visiting Poas. Quiet location, great views of the valley below. Great included breakfast.

The place is magical, everything bloomed and was clean, the staff is pleasant. There are animals and the breakfast is fresh and good. I will recommend that place

This is a funky style property, which would have been cool had the amenities been working. The first room had the bathroom flooding that it rained down to the bottom floor. Our new room didn’t have enough hot water for the jacuzzi to work and the heater downstairs was broken. The cottage was damp and cold as was the bed. The staff was lovely though and ready to help as best they could. The grounds of the hotel were very nice.

Very cute little spot , just stayed for a night, great location close to Poas Volcano and La Paz Waterfall which were the spots we visited.

Beautiful place, made with a lot of love. Lovely garden, close to the volcano. Restaurants close by. Just breakfast could offer more variety. Just one dish

This is such a unique property. My family (partner and 2 kids) stayed in the suite and had so much fun. The views are spectacular, my kids loved exploring the property and getting to know the dogs and cats that roam about. Beautiful, relaxing, and fun. Wish we could stay longer.

One of the most magical places in CR. Feels like a unique home away from home

Beautiful county villas, with spectacular views and amazing staff

The hotel had a hippy vibe, lovely grounds, many nice plants. Small open lawn for kicking around a soccer ball. Gnomes all over. It was quite chilly, especially when the sun set.
Breakfast: included, but we were only able to eat the fruit and juice/coffee. It started being served at 6:30, and our Poas volcano tour started at 7, so we had to leave before the eggs and other food were ready. It ended at 9am.
Internet: spotty
“Superior” Room: small for 5. There is a bed accessible by pull down attic stairs (that had a crack in it). It was quite hot up there during the day but it cooled off a lot at night. Our 14 year old slept up there. I wouldn’t want a younger child to go up the stairs and have open railing at the top. Our 11 year old slept on the couch (not a convertible). And, our 8 year old slept on the small bed. It has a refrigerator and kitchen sink.
There is an interesting covered building with views of the valley below, a tree growing up through the roof, and more gnomes
Overlook near the breakfast area is nice.
Farm next door with many cows and a donkey.
Three big dogs to pet and a friendly cat.

We loved our stay at the Altura Hotel. Ramiro checked us in, and he was super friendly and helpful. The hotel is about a 10 minute drive to Poas national part. The property is quite lovely and has a beautiful view, overlooking the city. There is so much attention to detail on the grounds. The breakfast was delicious as well. Highly recommend!

What an amazing property! I wish we would've had more time to enjoy the place and will definitely be back the next time we're in CR.

Excellent stay as a family with two young kids! Highly recommend spending some time at the properly for the kids to have a run around and explore everything the place has to offer (we wished we were staying another night). The breakfast was lovely too. We stayed in a tent which was comfortable with a great view, slight leak when it was raining but nothing that affected our stay. They also had lovely large dogs on the premises which my kids loved. Highly recommend

This hotel was the best hotel i stayed at Costa Rica. The staff were very friendly. The hotel was very quiet. Not many guests were staying there. The room was nice and big and very brand new. The breakfast was a bit far but the walk to there contained a great view. The parking was nice and easy. They give you a flashlight in case you want to go to your car at night. Overall, best hotel.

Our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teens) enjoyed our stay. The property was beautiful, the breakfast was yummy and the people we interacted with were very pleasant. Check in and check out went smoothly. They provided a good recommendation for dinner. We only stayed one night and would have loved to have stayed longer.

Zéro confort, bref and sofa good for garbage. Window dirty, dog barking during midnight, frigo was t connected when we arrive and the room was so hot and no screen in window to cool down without legging bugs in.
Forget this place

Excellent location. Amazing views. Great staff and pets!! Most unique place I’ve ever stayed in. Absolutely loved it!! Very close to the volcano.

An eclectic assortment of accommodation buildings. Nice views over city valley and sunset, cow fields next door. We stayed in the standard room which is on the lower floor in the back 'normal' looking building. Most others are of other construction. Room had enough space including couch. No A/C since it's at about 7000ft elev and cools fast. Has a space heater. Wifi was very weak in room, but better in other areas like the overlook and office.
Breakfast started at 7:30 and was quick since they start cooking yours as soon as you step in the door. I think everyone gets the same plate of eggs and other items.

What a cool, funky, super special place. We stayed in the Master Dome for (sadly) only one night. Soaked in the biggest tub I've ever seen and the next day wandered around the magical property as the fog rolled in off the hills. We were there to see Paos Volcano but the hotel became the highlight as the volcano wasn't visible that day. We'll definitely be back!

We had an exceptional stay at Altura. Very helpful staff, the room and property were beautiful. We arrived just after sunset, glad it wasn’t quite dark. And the restaurant nearby suggested by Oscar was delightful as well, with an incredible view of the town. We spent some time in the morning exploring the view points on the property. The breakfast was delicious. Great place to stay if visiting Poas. Couldn’t be closer to the national park.

We stayed in the tent, the kids loved it. Super unique, family friendly, easy to get to and many dining options, coffee farms and stuff to see. We stayed one night one our way out of the the SJO airport on to La Fortuna. Great location for getting to Volcán Poás.

This place is as unique as they come! Felt like home in its own tranquil way. We definitely did not want to leave

A gem in the mountains. Only here for a quick stay on the way to other destinations, but this place deserves a spot on your itinerary. We will come back on a future trip for certain. At night, the stars and city lights were amazing from the patio on our roof. Easy to access on paved roads, despite never driving outside of the US. About an hour from San Jose. The concierge stayed late to let us in. Our room was large and in beautifully constructed single building with a comfortable bed in a quiet area. Waking up to these views is unreal. Highest recommendation.

We loved Altura Hotel! Perched on the mountains above San Jose, it had great views and was only 10 minutes from Poas Volcano National Park. Each unit was unique, creative and practical.
We stayed in the Studio which reminds me of a tiny home. There were twin bunk beds, fridge, sink., and couch downstairs. Upstairs was a double bed, bathroom with shower. The ladder climb Upstairs was a little scary (it's quiteusteep and not good for little ones--our tween boys loved it) but there was a spiral staircase outside that'll get you upstairs and to the deck.
Breakfast was included with our stay--typical Tico breakfast of coffee, tea, juice; eggs, rice with beans, plantains, and small slice of cheese.

Awesome stay in The master dome. We all loved The grounds, The proximity with Poas Volcán NP, the dome and the amenities and just the general glamping feel of the hotel. Biggest thumbs up from all of us!
