Meet by a very friendly barman and we were warned that their oven wasn't working, so they could not serve breakfast or dinner but we were offered extra tea and coffee for our room. The gentleman said that he had tried to get in touch with us but we didn't get the message. It wasn't a big problem and couldn't be helped.
We stayed in room 2 at the front of the building and it does get a lot of noise from the traffic, so take some earplugs. Our room looked recently decorated and was very clean.
The green fire exist light in the bedroom is crazy bright and we had to throw a towel over it.
We had to leave early the next day and were out all day and were very disappointed that our room had not been cleaned. If it had have been cleaned then the staff would have noticed that we had only been left one set of towels and had no milk left.
We had advised the (different) barman about the room, and he was very apologetic - we could not say much as it definitely was not his fault.
I was expecting to see someone on the premises before we left at 8.30am the next morning but there was no one around.
I sent two emails to the Volunteer Inn to ask for an explanation as to why our room had not be cleaned but have not received a reply.
We are not picky people but a combination of the problems- no food, no cleaner, short of towels, no milk - for the cost of the room and no one bothered to reply to my email, I feel is a bit rude.
Shame really as the two staff we met were lovely - let down by their management I guess. It would be interesting to know the staff turnover.
Also, take your own shampoo.
If basic services are not available, the cost of the room is far too high

The room was clean.
Only one pillow provided. Fire escape light very bright in the room. Breakfast not served until 9am. So had to skip due to other commitments in the morning.

Close to location, staff were great
The bed reminded me of the uni days. I thought someone else was in the bed but it was the springs, upgrade the mattress. Also thought I was being abducted in the night, but it turns out it was the bright illuminating green fire escape light.

Breakfast was available and it was very close to the middle of Wantage where dinner was available. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. It was very close to everything I wanted to see.
The stairs were narrow and steep but that cannot be helped.

Loved the owners! I felt like I met some new friends. I was made to feel so welcome and we had some great conversations. This was my favorite of the other two places in which I had stayed. Thank you so much for such a wonderful stay! I felt sad when I left because you were so wonderful to me!

A good choice of menu was offered at breakfast and the service was really good. The owners are working really hard to improve the decor and facilities.

The Volunteer is in an excellent position both for drivers and for those travelling by public transport. It’s just outside Grove on the main road from Wantage to Abingdon and Oxford and very close to the route to Didcot.
The staff were superb, particularly a young woman called Vicky (I hope I have the correct name!) who welcomed me and was there one other evening. All other staff were just as friendly, accommodating but still professional, an excellent mix.
I also had a superb quality shower and a generous sized en suite bathroom which was a pleasant surprise.
I would have liked to be asked if I’d like breakfast in the morning. I wasn’t even made aware of the serving times and so unfortunately missed what looked like a very tasty full English Breakfast.

Our room was perfect for our stay. We didn’t have much time due to work but Georgina was extremely helpful and caring on arrival. Room 5 had a lovely feel and calming colours. Very cosy and so comfortable - bed especially, with lots of space inside and a smart laminate effect in bathroom. Plenty of tea / coffee also. Thank you!

The room was spacious, had a hairdrier, iron - all extras you might need, and an extremely comfortable bed. The cooked breakfast was huge and delicious with very attentive service from the amazing landlady, George.
Nothing!

the warm welcome, the help to get my suitcase upstairs and the friendly staff.
it’s on a busy road but with the window closed and ear plugs you don’t hear a thing (especially if you’re exhausted from 25 hours in transit)

The only good thing I can say about this property was the girl who checked me in was very friendly
The location of this place is right by the side of a busy road, and shares its car park with a hand car wash.
When i arrived to check in it was very noisy with workmen enjoying their pints after work.
As a woman traveling alone, I found this very intimidating - especially as they were filling up the small bar space, and effing and blinding all over the place.
There was no food available as the kitchen shut at 3:30pm - this is not clear on the general info, so please beware.
The lock on my room door was inadequate.
There was not going to be a member of staff on-site the night I was due to stay there, but 'there was another male guest in the other room, so you'll be alright', was what I was told.
I could not stay at this property as I did not feel safe.

bed was comfortable. room was clean. friendly staff.
There was no hot water. Not being able to have a shower just isn’t good at all. I think they’re missing a great opportunity with a location next to Williams F1.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel was spotless. We would definitely stay here again.
You will need a car to find things to do. We were quite happy with the location however and just chilled in the hotel.
