About this house rental
Dating from 1815, Marlacoo House, offers the opportunity to stay in a stunning Georgian farmhouse in a country estate situated conveniently between Belfast and Dublin. The perfect base whilst visiting Ireland, or simply a place to retreat from the world and enjoy time away from it all with family and friends. You will have full access to the grounds and we welcome well behaved pets.
The House - @marlacoohouse
Passing through the original wrought iron gates, you enter Marlacoo's leafy grounds. The drive leads directly to the house, follow the drive round to the courtyard and you will find ample car parking. It's easiest to enter via the back door where there is space for coats, shoes, and wellies etc in the boot room. For day to day use we find the rear entrance more convenient, and keep the front door locked for security.
From here you are directly into the well equipped kitchen with Rayburn oven. The kitchen is equipped with everything you might need. All expected appliances are present with some nice extras such as drinks fridge and simple podster style coffee machine. The kitchen table can accommodate 6/8 people, whilst the formal dining room next door 10 comfortably.
Walk through into the entrance hall where you will find the tall ceilings, ornate cornicing and Georgian windows that typify this period of house. You have a choice of two sitting rooms, one more formal and perfect for evening drinks and chats, the other set up for tv viewing (internet enabled) and board games. Both have working fires. The house is heated by Economy 7 heaters in addition to the two open fires.
In what was once a doctors dispensary from the time when the house was home to the local country doctor, there is now a dedicated working/study area with desk and chair. There is broadband with wireless coverage throughout the house but as we are in a rural area it can be a bit slow and works better in some rooms than others.
The corridor beyond the study takes you to the Orangery, where you can settle down and enjoy the views the house enjoys, or play a game of pool. This room leads to the patio.
Upstairs there are 5 bedrooms (inc a master with ensuite) and two additional family bathrooms, the bathrooms have all recently been upgraded. All the beds have high quality comfortable mattresses and bedding. The master bedroom has a kingsize bed, as does bedroom No 5 which also has the option to be converted to a twin room on request. Towels are provided.
The master bedroom's ensuite bathroom has a large walk in shower and freestanding bath. The first family bathroom serves bedrooms 2 and 3 and has a large walk in shower. The second family bathroom serves bedrooms 4 and 5, again with a walk in shower.
There are laundry facilities in the boot room. Essentials such as bin bags, washing powder, dishwasher tablets and cleaning products are provided. Please note a small amount of wood will be left for the fires, but you will need to purchase more during your stay if used frequently.
The Grounds
The house is situated in the middle of the tree filled grounds, meaning that you have privacy and can enjoy beautiful leafy views from all of the rooms. In the grounds, in addition to the formal gardens which are mainly set to lawn, you will find a woodland walk and also 'The Folly' which is a lovely spot to walk down to for a drink or picnic. A BBQ is available for use and there are seating areas to enjoy the quiet and space the house allows you (please note the garden furniture put away in the winter months).
Please be aware that Marlacoo House is not suitable for hen and stag parties. Events are only allowed with prior agreement and under separate booking terms and conditions. Marlacoo is ideally suited to friends/social gatherings, special family occasions or as a comfortable base to return to for visitors wanting to see what the North and South of Ireland have to offer.

Beautiful house and grounds, well maintained and perfect for a large family or group of friends.

The house is Georgian and many of the original features have been retained alongside modern fixtures. Together they give the house its unique character and beautiful, serene atmosphere and made our Christmas stay so enjoyable. The house is filled with paintings, photographs and a eclectic collection of books.
Everyone in the party found the heating satisfactory, with plenty of hot water in the very modern bathrooms. Comfortable beds with fine quality bedding, in spacious rooms, were very much appreciated, as was the modern kitchen for those cooking the Christmas meals. The house is exceptionally well equipped with everything that could possibly be needed. The outside space even attracted quite a few of us to venture outside even though the weather was not conducive to walking.
