View from the balcony, serenity of the area
There was an odd odour in the foyer area of the room, not sure if it was the tatami floor but it was quite strong.

Traditional experience, nice staff
Very hard climb to get to the hotel, impossible with suitcases, limited taxi service, reception service ends at 18:45, no restaurant on site. Location is limiting

Unique tatami style room.
Parking is squeazy. Hotel guest onsen is small. Some lightings are malfunction making room dark at times.

I had a very relaxing time in this property. Japanese style room was great, view was the best
9.0 / 10.0
The staff was really friendly, the tatami style room was cool, and the hotel has a relaxing onsen.
The location is not so easily reached with hakone free pass (a bus not covered by the pass does go to the hotel), and a lot of restaurants in the area (~10 minutes by foot) close before 6.

The room we stayed in was very large with kitchen attached.
Difficult to get to. Train stop early so you have to walk up the very steep hill after having dinner.
No food on premises.
Lobby is very basic.
Spa smell from chlorine, definitely not real spring water.

room was big enough and had a mini kitchen if you want to cook during your stay.
futon mattress was a little thin my back hurt a little next morning

Staff were amazingly helpful:) helped us book taxis, locate a doctor in a pinch, and we're especially accommodating with luggage. Onsen was nice but very hot
The AC could've been a little stronger.

Great traditional-style stay and we had a nice mountain view. It was very spacious and there were parking spots for our car. Coming here by public transport may be cumbersome though, however, there is the cable cart.
I like the dining table with the cutout floor for your legs to sit like a chair.
Be aware that because of the location, the air stinks but the room is airtight so the smell isn't strong inside.
We didn't get time to try out the onsen but from previous reviews, it looks to be good.
It would have been nice to have had the futon prepared for us. Wifi is weak and only available in the foyer.

We got lucky and stayed in the room with the best view! Other rooms might not be so lucky as our room faced east so we could catch the sunrise. Comfortable mattress and futons. Has the essentials for a comfortable homey stay. The receptionist, Kana, was patient and accommodating even though we had a bit of an issue with the booking. She was also fluent in English which was really helpful for us! There are also yukatas to wear (with sizes). The room was also very clean.
Onsen was small (only one bath, 6 showers) but for the price I would say it’s very reasonable! Onsen could also be cleaner but it’s okay for me.

Something about the water made me feel exceptionally relaxed more than other onsen I've been to. Not sure what it was but I would definitely come here again. The location is also a short walk away from a beautiful botanical garden and greenhouse. And very close to Nobu restaurant which is fantastic.
The facility is old, but it didn't bother me because it was clean and well maintained.

Wonderful Ryokan, lots of space, good hygiene, many facilities included in the apartment. Huge bathroom and acceptable Onsen. Really, the pictures don't make justice to this place, very good price for the service.
The location was terrible. I read many reviews mentioning the big slope to walk uphill before being able to reach the place but I had underestimated it. The slope is very high. The street really is difficult to walk on, especially with luggage. There is a cablecar station very close to the hotel, but the last train is around 18.30, so be careful not to miss it,otherwise you will need to walk uphill for 25 minutes.
The staff is very nice and friendly but also absent and difficult to contact when you need.
2.0 / 10.0
The location is horrendous, it's far up a 45° slope so get your leg muscles warmed up if you miss the cable car.
The room smelt like a subway sandwich and sounded like a bass drum.

The front desk staff was amazing. I do not recall her name but she was very welcoming and spoke really good English. The hotel is blessed to have an amazing member like her.
No instructions on how to set up the futon. However, we did check in late and didn't call the front desk. Hence, probably shd call the front desk when ready to set up the futon.

The dinner was delicious. Nabe is a perfect dinner for a winter stay
It would have been nice to have rice with the dinner rather than ramen noodles. Also the kitchenette was good to have but there was no spare cutlery or plates or mugs. Just green tea cups and glasses. This made preparing our own breakfast almost impossible.

The hotel had nice big rooms which included a small kitchen and dining area as well as a nice public bath. The views from the rooms were great.
The hotel feels a little tired in places

- Location is right at the Naka-Gora Cable car station.
- Perfect for counter-clockwise Hakon loop travellers. No need to use luggage storage services separately. Just stop at Naka-Gora while travelling to Sounzan from Gora and drop your luggage.
- Some wallpapers were torn.

location right next to the cable car was handy and rooms were huge if a little old.
small, old, slow elevator that felt like it was gonna stop at any moment. No ice machine, and very little choice in the vending machine considering there isn’t a Conbini or any shop of any kind for about 3-4km.
6.0 / 10.0
1. Staffs were helpful.
2. Rooms were good.
1. Onsen was not clean.
2. Rooms were little smelly and
3. TV in the room was not in working condition.
4. Location was very far from train station (Gora station) and there was no free pickup service from the train station as it was mentioned in the booking.com (Only shuttle bus was available whose timing were not mentioned anywhere)

Nice bath, nice view, reasonable price
Not easy to find, esp. the ANNEX
