About this house rental
An elegant and comfortable 18th century home in Modica’s historic centre, newly renovated by a Florentine architect. It combines brand new amenities, WI-FI, smart TV, A/C, and contemporary style, with historic character. Nestled in a charming, residential neighbourhood, it's steps from Modica’s lively cafes, restaurants, and stunning Baroque architecture.
This 90 sq m palazetto features original stone floors, domed ceilings and sandstone archways, alongside air conditioning, all-new, contemporary furniture, and marble kitchen counters. Enjoy coffee on the balcony with a view of Modica’s historic castello, or relax with a glass of Sicilian wine in your private interior terrace. Ideal for up to 5 people.
Modica offers urban amenities and relaxed charm. It also makes a great base to explore southeastern Sicily, including UNESCO world heritage sites, Blue Flag beaches, hiking trails and nearby gorges, and Greek and Roman ruins.
About Modica: Modica is a UNESCO World Heritage site, in recognition of its 'Sicilian Baroque' architecture. It is also famous for its distinctive--and delicious--artisanal chocolate. The historic centre includes restaurants and cafes, as well as live music, theatre, and, during the summer months, you can enjoy movies and performances under the stars. The historic centre is compact, and easily managed on foot. We think it's a lively and entertaining place, but still relaxed, casual, and quiet.
About Southeastern Sicily: Convenient day trips (by car, train, or bus) include historic, cosmopolitan, and beautiful Siracusa, Caltagirone (famous for its ceramics) and UNESCO-protected Baroque splendour of cities such as Noto, Scicli, and Ragusa. Nature lovers will enjoy the delights of nearby beaches, (such as Pozallo, Sampieri, and Donnalucata) or hiking in scenic gorges.
Discover ruins of classical antiquity and early Christian history at nearby sites such as Akrai, or the Roman mosaics of Villa Romana del Casale.
Wine lovers will enjoy sampling the local Nero D'Avola, Frappato, Grillo, and Cerasuolo wines, or perhaps enjoying a tour of a nearby vineyard.

My wife and I enjoyed our month long stay. Perfect location for us, and we loved Modica and it's surroundings. There's no shortage of thing do do and see. The history is unparalleled, the food is to die for, and there's always the Mediterranean... That said, be sure it's what your looking for, there's many stairs, the driving and parking can be a real challenge, especially in the medieval centers. For us though, it was the trip of a lifetime.

The apartment was spacious with a well-equipped kitchen. Beds were comfortable and cross-draft from balcony to inner patio was welcome on hot afternoons. Location in the old town is amazing - walking distance to shops and all the great architecture. Owner and property manager very responsive. Loved this place.

We spent an amazing 5 nights at La Margherita. The house is very comfortable and well appointed. It's an easy 5 or 10 minute walk to the centre of town with plenty of great restaurants and shops. There's a small grocery store and a fresh fruit and vegetable stall very close by. The owner provided a binder with lots of recommendations and information about the area and places to see. I would recommend staying at La Margherita to anyone.

The apartment was in a perfect location. We could always find parking within a 5 minute walk; restaurants, bars and shops were within a 15 minute walk, yet it was very local with pleasant neighbours. Would love to stay here again.

A perfect location with all the amenities hosted by wonderful people. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to spend three months of our retirement days.

We would highly recommend booking La Margherita for your next vacation. The architecture is stunning and every room was clean, very functional and comfortable. Modica is a beautiful charming town and we loved the sites, food, wine, the history and the people. Giorgio met us at the agreed upon location with no issues. He was very friendly, down to earth and helpful with any questions we had.
From our base here we took many day trips. Some of our highlights were: Valley of the Temples in Arigento. Giorgio arranged for us to visit a farm in Val Di Noto where we enjoyed a 10 course home prepared meal which included all of the freshly made Ricotta you could eat really and great wine. I would say this is a must do for anyone visiting.
We loved strolling the streets in Noto and Ragusa tasting a variety of Sicilian delicacies every few blocks.
We saw amazing Archeological sites in Siracusa and Taormina and took a trip up to approximately 3000' on Mount Etna.
Let’s not forget about the abundance of pistachio's and cannolis. We sampled cannolis in every area we visited. I have to say my favorite one was in Noto :-).
Thank goodness most of Sicily is a big Stairmaster!
I have been to Rome, Florence and Pisa and found Sicily my favorite. Part of the reason I feel this way was having your lovely home as a base made for a memorable vacation
Thanks again for a great place to stay Rosie.

Thank you so much for letting us stay at your beautiful home in Modica. We were both really taken with the town - it really is a gem of a place. You are certainly never short of wonderful walks and places to eat and drink without having to get in the car and travel elsewhere. On the other hand, there are so many beautiful places within a 30 minute drive it would seem a shame not to! And, your house is the perfect place to be based too - clearly lovingly restored, with great attention to detail. We will be back!

This is definitely the place to rent if you want to experience true Italian culture in Modica, Sicily!
When we arrived at the airport, we were met by Georgio, the property manager. He was so welcoming and helpful with any needs we had during our stay. The property owner, Rosie, was the reason we decided to rent this place. She truly cares that you enjoy your stay in Modica and that everything is perfect! The apartment had everything needed to feel like you were actually living in Italy. Wonderful beds with comfortable linens and pillows, which were changed out every week by Georgio's wife, Antonella. Every evening, if weather permitted, we enjoyed sitting on the balcony with a glass of wine and listening to Italian families gathering for dinner. Steps away were many macelleria (meat shop), pastecceria (bakery shop), Pescheria (fish shop), Panettiere (bread shop), formaggio (cheese shop) and much more. Also, we were able to buy fresh vegetables and fruit everyday just a short walk away. The property is also not far away from the train station, which we used to visit Syracusa! Also, the bus station terminal is within walking distance if you want to venture to Modica Alto (upper Modica) or any of the surrounding towns such as Pozzallo (wonderul), Ragusa, or maybe Scili. This property had everything one could need to have a wonderful experience in Modica. Great property owner, manager and location! Thank you, again, Rosie and Georgio!!

This beautifully restored and cleverly designed house is a great base for a stay in Modica and the Noto valley. It is very close to the center of Modica Bassa with its wonderful cafes and lively atmosphere, nestled in a dramatic ravine. The house has a terrace that can be opened to become part of the dining area, so the space flows in and out, and, when opened, a delightful cross breeze cools everything in the evening. But there is also air conditioning if you need it. The rooms are cozy and the original architectural details have been preserved, but fixtures are up to date and make living there easy. The owners have very good taste and have created something that is both harmonious and colorful at the same time. The property manager, Giorgio, is extraordinary. He makes himself available to help in every sort of situation, and you feel, from your first moment there, that you have a great friend who is concerned about you and will make sure that you have the support you need for whatever may arise. We loved the house and love Modica -- a small city with a feeling of authenticity rather than that of a tourist Mecca, yet easily in reach of and connected to all the places a tourist may want to be. Thanks to the owners, Rosanna and Nora, for making their home available to guests. Best wishes from Susan and Jack.
