About this house rental
Our beautiful four-bedroom cottage stands beside the entrance to Stourhead Gardens, owned by the National Trust.
Built in the 18th century, the cottage is the largest in a terrace of three, which look across the green to the lovely historic church of St Peter.
It is available for holiday rental for the first time and offers spacious self-catering accommodation for eight.
There are four double bedrooms, one of which has twin beds. Two rooms have ensuite bathrooms, complemented by a third family bathroom.
Downstairs the accommodation consists of a fine sitting room and a separate dining room, both with views across the green, a well-equipped kitchen, cloakroom and utility room.
There is a dishwasher, a washing machine and a dryer. To the rear is a small garden with a pretty courtyard.
The cottage’s unique situation offers guests the opportunity to explore Stourhead’s stunning lakeside gardens in the early morning and evening when the crowds have gone.
Stourton village is surrounded by many miles of open, downland countryside and woodland, cris-crossed by footpaths and bridleways, making it the perfect centre for exploring one of Britain’s loveliest areas.
The extraordinary garden project, The Newt in Somerset, is just a 20 minute drive away.
Stonehenge is less than half an hour by car, and Dorset’s Jurassic Coast around an hour away.

Lovely property full of character, but what sets it apart is the beautiful location on the edge of the National Trust estate. Such a lovely setting. Communication with the owner was excellent, and it was very reasonably priced compared to other options we looked at. Highly recommend!

The Natural Historical gardens were charming, relaxing, and beautiful. The accomodation was nice and clean with all the amenities. Our party of 7 had an excellent time and definitely will re-visit. The Natural History staff were excellent as well.

Beautiful, cozy but spacious cottage in an idyllic location right next to the entrance to Stourhead Gardens. Well equipped with everything we needed for a relaxing stay. Hoping to return.

We found the property to be quite charming with its aged historic features and gorgeous scenic setting. We were comfortable and found the home well equipped and furnished for our needs. I think it is important for visitors to know the property is at the entrance to the National Trust gardens at Stourhead and hence receives a large number of visitors walking past the front door all day, everyday. Busy by day and peaceful by night. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Loved this place. Sally was very helpful and understanding. The garden was delightful. The house tour was great. Volunteers enthusiastic and well informed. Village and shopping close. Met our neighbor Dennis and visited the church several times.

It was a joy from start to finish. The property was even better than the pictures shown. Beds comfortable with 2 en suite. A fully equipped kitchen, large dining room and comfy living room meant our multi generational group had plenty of space. Sally could not have been more helpful, even when a family drama necessitated our having 3 dogs (instead of the 2 allowed) to stay for a night. She even gifted us free range hen and duck eggs. Apart from the aforementioned family emergency, our vacation was a joy. 25 minutes drive to Longleat and the house itself is situated at the entrance to the magnificent NT Stourhead Gardens. I've had variable experiences on VRBO, but this was by far and away the very best. Can't speak highly enough about it!

Perfect location
Everything was exactly as described and contact communication with Sally was very easy and quick responses to questions asked. The location is stunning and the garden walks are fabulous and very interesting for all ages. Great pub just across the road who have a fantastic and very helpful staff. Great base for not only the gardens, but for the other local attractions such as Stonehenge and Longleat. Lots of lovely local villages and places to eat made it it a great experience for my family. Thanks Sally!

Beautiful house in a stunning location
We had a fabulous stay at the house, Sally has added beautiful design touches and it is hard to get pictures to do justice to the rooms and spaciousness. Very comfy beds and views to the front for three bedrooms and one looked out into the back garden (the garden a plus with our pup). Like stepping back in time but with all mod cons and homely. Great laundry/utility room and hampers to use if wanted. Access to Stourhead gardens outside of normal opening hours as well as within was an added bonus and plenty of walks outside for us with our dog. The pub opposite had shorter opening hours due to staff shortages faced by many at this time but food there was good. The farm shop you can pre order bread and vegetables a day before you need if they don't have what you want. We had a couple of issues - dishwasher error and a shower leak which were sorted very quickly and didn't stop us using anything. The church opposite is open every day and well worth visiting, again lovely to stroll around once the daily visitors have left. In the sunshine we sat out on the front lawn having a picnic and watching people go by. Really didn't want to leave!

Great place to stay with family
Really enjoyed our stay at this property.
We booked last minute so we didn’t know the property was right next to Stourhead House and Gardens. It was a bonus that we can access it after 4:30 for free.
The pictures don’t do justice to the property or surroundings so I highly recommend the owner takes some new pics! Would recommend this place.

A Truly Magical Place To Stay
We stayed to celebrate two family birthdays with the property easily accommodating our extended family, the setting of this cottage is truly Stunning, right at the entrance to the landscaped gardens of the Stourhead Estate. The property is very comfortable, clean and has lots of charm and character. The owner communicates excellently throughout the booking process and nothing was too much trouble during our stay. The Spread Eagle Inn (literally across the road) served wonderful food. Really can’t recommend this property/location highly enough.
