I only had tea and toast, I was served with a smile but it seemed tasteless! There was no raspberry jam so I had strawberry which is not a pry but it tasted of nothing.
The butter was ice cold. It wasn’t a welcoming environment.
The bar/restaurant was cold I had to keep my coat on when I had dinner. Wine was over priced for that environment.
It seemed uninhabited, most of the time.I hardly saw anyone. It looked shabby and unkempt.

Check-in was easy. There is a number to call on the reception door who will give you the code to get in.
The staff were friendly and the rooms were inviting.
The guide left in the room was comprehensive and on my next trip I will go to the bar/restaurant area and see what they have to offer.
I had some empty bottles and coffee cups that I was going to reuse when I was working on site, left on the dresser and when I had returned from work they had been taken with the rubbish.

Breakfast was great. Location was in a pretty area we've not visited before.
It obviously used to be an amazing place after reading the reviews, let's hope it can be brought up to the same standards in due course, the bones are there just needs time and loads of money

the evening meals were very good
the room, the location of the room, the lack of staff around the property, having to use a 6 digit code every time to enter the property.

We liked the food, very tasty. Couldn't fault the dinner or the breakfast. We liked the location of the setting. Nice approach-however, the walking around part is quite limited. There is a large water area, understandably fenced off but the vegetation around it makes it impossible to go around it. Quiet setting with small woodland on approach and field with glamping tents, other than that the surround is private housing.
Quite a few things. I always give honest reviews. We arrived 30 minutes early and found all doors locked. We were told (via an upstairs window!) to come back at 2 as the rooms weren't ready yet. After check-in we found one room had been made up three days before and one the day before! It is all inside the information pack in the rooms. Hmm! We did however get into the restaurant 5 minutes before our evening meal, the door was actually open. At breakfast the next day we got to the restaurant a few minutes before booked time to get seated as we had plans for the day and a schedule. (Restaurant has no access internally to get to it by the way) the door was locked. At one minute to 7 the waitress was dropped off in a car and we had to wait for her to go in via another entrance and unlock the main door. Both she and the barman the evening before were however, very friendly, it was just the manager/chef who wasn't as obliging on site, he was more helpful prior to arrival over the phone.
The rooms themselves: we had a double room, bed was hard and lumpy, pillows were so uncomfortable it gave us a neck ache. We had a very poor sleep. Walls are paper thin and you literally hear every word from your neighbours. In general, the entire building is run down in decor, carpets, loos in bar/restaurant. It could do with a good spring clean. A shame because it looked so much nicer online and we went away for a very special occasion. Still, the tasty food made up for the shortcomings, had it not, it would have been a dismal stay. I'd recommend it more for a passing meal rather than the 'bed' part.

Good for over night stop for a family party near by.
We arrived and the rooms were freezing. They had not put the radiator on. Had to go to bed to keep warm before going out for the evening.

Paul and the team could not have done anymore to make my mums 80th Thursford birthday celebrations any better. And the food! Wow! Thank you Paul, Kerry, Gabrielle and the team. Amazing! We will be back next year with a bigger gang :-)
Perhaps preheat the rooms prior to arrival. But they soon warmed up

Absolutely nothing. 2 staff - a man and woman who worked in the restaurant, tried their best to be friendly within the draconian 'rules' of the establishment. The rest were unpleasant and unwelcoming.
So rude and unwelcoming on arrival. Perishing cold room. No heating in the bathroom. The owner was rude and aggressive. Told breakfast served between 7.30-9.30 yet when we arrived at 9.00 we were too late.

The shower was excellent and very accessible. The room was well appointed but neglected. The hospitality tray was well stocked. The beds were comfortable. We did not eat there so cannot comment on the food.
Very impersonal as we did not see any member of staff. Our key was left on the Reception Desk with my name on the accompanying form. Anyone could have lifted this. The room was damp and cold. We could not use the wardrobe due to the damp smell. It took ages for hot water to reach the bathroom taps. Worst of all there were two very long black hairs in the shower - neither my husband nor I have black hair. When returned to the hotel in the evening - 2230 - the door was locked and we had no idea what number to enter on the key pad. When I rang the 'phone number displayed on the door I was, quite curtly, told the number was on the key fob and that the person who checked us in would have told us. As I say no-one checked us in and this 'phone conversation was the only contact we had with a member of staff. There was a feeling of lack of care. Certainly not a welcoming place but would benefit from friendly and efficient management and staff.

The hotel was old, a little tired in the reception and corridor, but clean.
Absolutely freezing tho throughout. Probably lovely in the summer, but single glazing in the winter is too cold..
Too cold, with smelly condensation.

Cleanliness of the room. The location was very scenic and tranquil. Very peaceful.
Hotel reception was like Covid experience, had to call to access into hotel. No receptionist. No sign of anybody around including other guests although cars were parked at the parking lots. Restaurant was closed (we were there on a Thursday). Unless you have a car, expect a long walk. Difficult to get dinner or even breakfast the next morning.

A beautiful old house in a peaceful setting. Our room was clean and comfortable with a lovely view. We had dinner in the restaurant one night, it was excellent, my fillet steak cooked to perfection. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Just one thing, we arrived on a Thursday, in the room, the information said the restaurant was open every night, we discovered later that Thursday is only the night it's closed. An amendment to the information in the rooms would be useful.

Bed and breakfast should have included breakfast.

Comfortable bed with clean, fresh linen. Good towels, changed daily if required. Friendly staff, good breakfast. Quiet location down a long drive, which has small lights along it. Outdoor decking for an evening drink. Good selection of drinks too.
The whole place is in need of TLC. Both entrance doors were locked when we arrived, there is a telephone number for Paul, but we managed to contact someone through a window.

Very friendly easy to find relaxed & dog friendly

Great location
No receptionist when we turned up, so the key was left out for anyone to take

Unfortunately for a "bed and breakfast" breakfast was not included .
A non-slip shower mat would have been a useful safety feature, plus a grab-rail in the bath/shower.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a nice setting and the room was absolutely fine. It was definitely value for money.
The whole place is a bit tired, but the staff make up for that.

location , food
absolutely poor quality room, not maintained even
toilet flush not working and despite reporting they couldn’t do anything expecting us to put up with it and saying we are old building and we are waiting to put new toilets!
even staff rude and expecting us to adjust with everything. did not even give small water bottles when we finished ours in the room saying that we are checking out at 10.30 and they would not give refill of water at 8 the same morning .

Lovely setting. Superb breakfast. Very comfy bedroom.
Clearly, it needs a lot of renovation although to be fair, they are attending to this.

In a nice peaceful area.
I didn’t dislike the property, I was told that the owner is hoping to continue renovating the property which will be good.

Although a budget room it was spacious and clean, with bottled water and biscuits. Comfy bed. Really quiet location. Evening meals were very good.
The location works for and against the hotel, most places are a drive away.
