One of the worst stays I’ve ever experienced.
I grew up visiting El Rey, I have great memories of this place as a kid. I booked it because it seemed freshly updated and of good value. This place is beyond disappointing. So much has been spent on the overall image of this place, freshly updated brand, merch, etc but the processes and guest experience are terrible. I called them to request an early check in. Check in starts at 4 and I requested a 3pm check in. They let me know the room was not ready but would shoot me a text when it was. Understandably not all early check ins can be accommodated so we waited until 4pm to check in. The room was not ready until nearly 5pm. For the two hours spent waiting nearly every guest who walked in was told the same. The room wasn’t ready. The front desk staff has no way of dealing with it and their only resolve is to offer free drink tokens.
The room itself does not appear anything like the heavily edited photos. It’s dirty, poorly renovated, and things are falling apart. The ‘Casita’ we rented has a sliding glass door to an outdoor area, the lock doesn’t work and clearly hasn’t in a while. It’s run down, beat up, and poorly cared for. The staff is slow to respond, chaotic, and offer very poor responses and resources to guests. Please avoid booking here. It’s just not worth it.

If you’re the kind of person who really appreciates the old-school feel of a vintage roadside motel, don’t hesitate. Book this place today. You won’t regret it.

I love the El Rey Court. I have stayed there numerous times on my travels from Austin to Telluride. The motel has a unique flair. It’s not for everyone, but if you like hip and old motor motels, you’ll love this one. And they are super dog friendly.

You’re definitely paying for the nostalgic, shabby-chic, hipster, roadside motel vibe here. The beds weren’t very comfortable and the room wasn’t very clean. The property is a great revitalized classic roadside motel, and as such you expect for the rooms etc to have some wear, even though they’ve been redone. But the things within control weren’t up to par really either. Our kettle didn’t work, the shower curtains were old and dinged, the mattresses weren’t comfortable, etc. You’re paying a premium and not really getting a premium product.

We had a poor experience here. The room was clean and the bed comfortable, and the self laundry reasonably priced. However, the lighting is inadequate, the shower controls difficult to operate--could not stop the tub trickle so heard it all-night, and the road noise insufferably loud most of the night. The electrical outlets barely keep a plug secure. Although it possesses some 1950s charm, the motel should be avoided.

Its a tired old facility. Room was was so bare and cheap. Stayed for 4 nights with no housekeeping. Half of parking lot closed for days because a wedding tent was going up.

This is one of the most pleasant hotels I have ever visited. It is a beautifully updated retro single story motor court established in 1936. It features a beautiful courtyard with fountain in one of the sections of the facility. My room featured stucco walls, wooden doors on the bathroom and closet that looked original. The ceiling was pine panels with massive, full-dimension 4x6 pine beams. The room was a bit spartan, but clean with attractive modern furniture. The cabinet under the batheroom sink appears original. The bathroom was a treasure: dark blue and light blue tile on the floor, dark blue, light blue and pink ceramic tile on the bathtub/shower. Plumbing is updated and works well, especially the shower. Curtains were effective at light blockage. The only down side was the wall mounted HVAC unit, which was noisy, but worked well enough. Price was reasonable. In the office building on the evening i stayed, there was a jazz trio playing in a large sitting room.

The property was fun & quirky. Being a motor court it was a little noisy sometimes.

Brilliant hotel. They really thought about the little details, the room was so chic, so many amenities that you could really just stay on the property the whole trip!

This is usually our go to for Santa Fe visits, it's fun and hip very recommended!

I love the style of this hotel. It is so antique and so chic.

It was nice and cozy.

Both nights I was awoken in lovely little room #8 by what sounded like a locomotive about to crash into the room. When I staggered outside at 545am, service vehicles had arrived to begin servicing the hotel. I cursed a bit and got up and got to work. The same routine was repeated the next night.

I generally like the El Rey...been staying there for several decades. This particular stay was really bad. The floor was sticky and there were ants in the bathroom. The toilet was clogged and nobody answered the phone when I tried to call to have it fixed. When I went over to the office in the morning they said they would have maintenance come but it didn't happen. I lost the morning wages because I couldn't work in the smell. I lost a night's sleep because of the smell. I would like a refund for the night.

This property is a good value for the Santa Fe but is an old property that is tired feeling. My TV never worked and there was no WIFi. Checking in took over 20 minutes, the one person at the front desk was overwhelmed by the number of people checking in.

Rustic Hipster vibe with a breakfast food truck, pool, and bar. The green spaces were well cared for.

El Rey is one of our top two places to stay in Santa Fe. Hip, cool, sparkling clean, spacious room, great bed, great staff, pretty much everything we want. We absolutely love it.

I liked the local decor , in unique Santa Fe Style. Pool and evening happenings were good too. Only complaint was never seeing housekeeping. Had to ask for more towels, and on a three night stay it would’ve been nice if the room was cleaned of glasses, and if the garbage cans had been emptied.

Weather was perfect. Love Santa Fe!

SUCH A COOL PLACE! This was our third trip to SF. I passed by El Rey several times on each trip and thought it looked so quaint….reminiscent of another era. So I just had to try it. It is certainly NOT your typical hotel stay. But it was GOOD in so many ways. Super friendly staff. Fun activities like karaoke and pop up shops and live music while we were there. Didn’t have time to try the spa or pool. Just neat to see people hanging out in the lobby and around the property enjoying the atmosphere and each other.

Quiet, quaint refurbished old motel. A lovely Santa Fa experience away from the downtown bustle. For the cost, however, you should weigh your preferences. You're paying for the experience of being in a hip, young hotel with some nice atmosphere and cute rooms. The ground are lovely and the property is pretty friendly. I didn't make it to the bar but heard it's worth it. If your looking for valet service this is not the hotel for you. You will load and unload yourself and if your room is upstairs there is no elevator.

Horrible! My room looked nothing like the pics displayed when booking. The only thing that was accurate was the ceiling and floor. First I booked two rooms, and when I checked in they gave me a room on each end of the property. I could understand if I booked a room and my friend booked her room on a separate transaction but it says 2 adults, 4 kids, 2 rooms and they charged me for two rooms…CLEARLY we want our rooms to be next or near each other. I asked if they can change it since I was the first to check in at 4pm and there were lots of key cards on the wall and she said no because they were close to capacity for the night. How about make your oops right and find two rooms with queen beds near each other and give two others our rooms…that’s service and frankly what I thought I was paying for, and a nice room. Then I enter my room and it looks like my room was left off the list of renovations yet they charged me $250 for a Wednesday night in a non peak week as if it was fully renovated as the pictures alluded to. The lobby is beautiful, the exterior of the property is beautiful and as pictured. My room however was not. It looked like an old motel room. The bathroom was the worst part…the shower/tile looked like it was from the 60s, cracked tile and faucet handle sticking out from the wall as if you turned it too hard it will snap off. The real treat was when I attempted to take a shower and waited forever for the hot water to kick in, I got it a nice warm temp and no need fo

Best place to stay in Santa Fe!

I have stayed there many times but always in the old section The new section should be called Motel 6 at El Ray
At first they gave us room the furthest distance from anything. Two room shared an outside door leading to a staircase. We didn't go up. They were extremely unhelpful about moving us to another room. The new room was still at the back of the courtyard a long distance from parking. Bottom sheet on the King size bed was flat and not fitted .Came loose immediately. The Duvet cover was just something made out of sheets.
and open at the top .No soap, no hair dryer and no
maid service we had to ask for it before we arrived apparently. Slept or tried to on the horrible bed two nights. I could keep gong but why? we will never go back there. .

Could not get the patio room requested. Was put upstairs in the back with no option other that to move the next day to the patio room requested. Was supposed to receive 40% credit for the inconvenience but instead received a $20 rebate. 40%od of $286 is not $20. The front desk clerks just count make anything right. But the patio room the next day was worth the stay. Wonderful!

El Rey is cute, but basic. We stayed in a casita and found the space to be lacking in design finishes and amenities. The pool was very crowded and offered no services. Traveling as a family of 4 we found an Airbnb to be a better value in a much nicer neighborhood.

While we were staying here the electricity went out and when I asked about a refund or discount, the first two times I was given a manager’s number and left messages - never got called back. Today I got a better agent who said to contact Expedia. Poor customer service. It is a cute hotel and I know they can’t control the weather but come on.

This place is overall awesome. Look, it’s a 1930’s motor lodge that has been redone and updated and looks like they are continuing to. It’s not perfect but it’s pretty awesome for those who love nostalgia with some modern amenities and not have to break the bank. It’s perfectly located, has a great bar and pool and is close to restaurants, shopping, dispensaries and more. Will def stay here again. My only complaint is that the beds are FIRM af.

We just loved our stay at El Rey Court! Pizza nights were so fun and brought community together. The fact that it is so dog friendly made all the difference. We will be back!

We had been traveling since early morning and enjoyed sitting in our rocking chairs while watching and listening to the numerous birds in the garden. It was the perfect way to decompress! We were in the heart of Santa Fe but felt as though we were at a remote Mexican hacienda. Perfect!

Very disappointed. Very low quality motel. The AC is leaking and we couldn’t even use it. My son was really sad and told me he felt like this is a homeless shelter. The worst hotel experience ever. Not recommended.
