Decent hotel - room had really good curtains which I appreciate very much in a hotel.

The hotel has real character and the staff ia truly excellent and most helpful. Very good continental breakfast served either in your room or downstairs in the dining room. Good supply of tea, coffee and excellent sweet biscuits

Excellent customer service and great location

Such a lovely building the room we had was an upgrade and had a little garden we were on the lower floor. We felt so cosy comfy bed and will recommend this to others.

We arrived at the Vanbrugh House Hotel for our anniversary expecting our standard double room booking and what we paid for. They surprised us with an upgrade at no extra cost to the Vicarage Suite which was absolutely phenomenal. We had two baths and a shower, multiple sofas with a huge kingsize bed along with chocolates and a bottle of prosecco in ice. We can't recommend this hotel enough. The suite even included its own private garden!

Wonderful accommodation
Amazing staff and welcome
Would have liked to move in!

I had a great time at this hotel, if you would like to be in the heart of Oxford this is your hotel. If you also don’t mind to have amenities and just to have a comfortable bed and treat this city as your endless amenities of exploration then this is a great choice.
2.5
Such a lovely hotel with the most attentive staff at the front desk. My daughter and I felt very safe and comfortable. The hotel was located on a quiet street just around the corner from the heart of everything in Oxford. Really just the best location.

Fine stay for a couple of nights while in town for work. The room was very noisy at night due to its location as well as in the morning when breakfast is brought around to other guests. Bathroom was not fully cleaned when we first checked in (hair on the floor, grime in the shower) and there are empty soap holders all over the bathroom. Note that rooms lack some amenities, like there was no fridge and limited outlets. Blackout curtains were great, though. Hotel staff is very friendly and helpful, though, the room just could have used more cleaning, updating, and quieter early mornings.

Jao; helped with all our needs! Great experience!

Great rooms, centrally located for theatres and attractions.

Great hotel. Good location. Nice sized rooms with lots of amenities - free water, snacks, etc. Only complaint is that the beds are quite firm. Not used to this, but maybe it’s a European thing. We would definitely stay here again.

The advertising was misleading as to room size and quality. The room was very small. The bed was small for 2 people. There was a smell of mold in the bathroom. No vaccuuming took place during our 5 day stay. No fridge. Coffee and water were appreciated.

Outstanding service and beautifully-appointed rooms.

The woman on reception was outstanding. So friendly and polite and was one of the nicest people I've encountered doing that role. The man when I checked out was also professional and friendly.

We really enjoyed staying one night at the Vanbrugh, helpful& friendly staff, great location and room was perfect. Enjoyed the breakfast hamper in our room - super cosy!

This hotel is in a great position if you wish to explore Oxford city. It is centrally located with lots of shops and restaurants around. The hotel itself was a little bit disappointing and for the price I paid for two nights, did not represent value for money. The bed was so hard, I struggled to sleep for the two nights and I asked for a topper and they were unable to supply one. Instead I was given a duvet which I slept on top of. There is no bar or restaurant so you are just paying for the room. Although clean, some obvious wear and tear is visible as it is an old property. There was no lock on my window. The reception staff provided an average service. Polite and friendly, but felt they probably could have been a little more cheerful. I think the pictures are far superior than the reality of the property and if I had not paid such a premium, I might not have been as disappointed.

The room was nice and located in the city centre it's been a good choice for me. Massive downside to that hotel is the fact, that it is super noisy. Not only do you hear every step of people over your room or outside on the stairs as if elephants ran through. The housekeeping is so loud while working, that it is not possible to have a relaxed time in your room until they're done with loud talking, stomping and banging the vacuuming machine ragingly against evert door or wall.

Great hotel, better than big same as hotel chains.
No bar or restaurant but nice breakfast delivered to room.
Staff are great, in the centre of everything in Oxford.
Old charm but with modern touches.

Room on ground floor connected with a private back yard.

Very central and easy to find. Exceptionally quiet and dark room which meant a great nights sleep.
No parking but that applies to most of Oxford. Would stay again

Brilliant hotel great location

Great location, close to everything you want to do in Oxford, but the room was so so. The shower could not hold the same temperature for more then half a minute and the sink was slightly leaking when you washed your hands. Breakfast was ok but not worth the money.

The hotel is very well situated right in the centre of Oxford which is great, however trying to get parked near the hotel was impossible and I ended up having to park in the Redbridge Park and Ride and come back in. The hotel is in need for a refurb, the room has no air conditioning, a fan was provided but it wasn't sufficient to cool the room. The toilet in the bathroom was broken, and the room was definitely in need of a face lift. The breakfast is basic, i ordered granola and yoghurt, what was delivered was a muller corner, they don't even offer toast. Overall the hotel was a disappointment for what it cost.

An outstanding property with outstanding staff who look after me every time I visit. Cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. Plus its location in Oxford is excellent. Thank you especially to Fernando for your kindness and exemplary service every visit, but especially this time.

Perfect spot in the heart of Oxford!

Very nice property. However, they are in a green zone so if you drive your car there, you will have to pay a fee, even just to unload your luggages and go then go to the expensive public parking nearby

They need a/c in the rooms , we could not cool are room properly the fan did not cut it .

Great location and staff! Small hotel that doesn't have AC except for a small device in the room. This is especially important during hot days as the room became so hot! Overall no frills pleasant stay.

Amazing location, great service.
No elevators and paper walls…a bit too noisy, especially in the morning.

The location is amazing, the service outstanding but they have paper walls…noises coming from all over. We stayed in the suite situated on the main floor of the next building. What was good is that we did not have to bring luggage upstairs (no elevator) but it is situated right in front the main entrance and the slamming starts at 7am: sleeping impossible. Also, pillows need to be upgraded. The room is large for an European hotel, we had a very spacious bathroom with 2 tubs, lots of hot water and an outdoor space just for us. Good bad for the noise, everything else was fantastic!
2.5
Very convenient to the Bus Station, Glouster Green, and downtown Oxford. Very quiet as well as it is on a side street. Good value for the convenience. No parking but was OK for me as I was on bus transport.
4.0
On the plus side, the location is great. It's easy to access restaurants, shopping, and transportation. Our room was spacious and clean, and the staff was helpful and friendly. However, external renovations are going on, which were not mentioned on the website. There are very few amenities. There is no elevator and no one to assist with luggage up and down the stairs. There is no phone in the room, so you have to make your way to the front desk to resolve any issues. This can be a great stay but it does need some updates.
