Everything. It was amazing! Beautiful old building renovated with style and care. The staff were wonderful! Macarons and little chocolates provided. Honestly the best place we’ve stayed. Great location as well
Hard to find anyone at the check in but evidently it’s just opened so will probably improve.

The beds were comfortable
It could of done with a good clean broken windows that didn’t open and they don’t cater for disabled people

The building, the size of it, the beautiful beams, the endless number of rooms, lounges, the very relaxed athmosphere. the character of the place. So refreshingly different and authentic, compared with Holiday Inn or Premier Inn etc where all the rooms are the same, everything smooth and efficient but devoid of any character.. The pool and the quaint sauna, just amazing. Hope it can survive as it is.
It was very drafty, the window didn't shut properly and it was a wet and windy day.

Nostalgia. I have visited so many times in the past. It is a beautiful building.
Everything else. It is rundown with broken furniture and bathroom goods. It is shabby. The leisure centre is unappetising. There was no hot food at breakfast.

Excellent location
Building v run down.
My room was on second floor. No lift. No one offered to take my case up to my room.
None of the power sockets worked in my room. Had to get repaired.
Sheet on my bed v narrow and couldn’t be tucked in.
Shower pathetic.
Towels v worn out and thin.
Room badly needed decorating and had damp stains.
Breakfast v tired looking food.

Access to pool.
Clean bedding & towels.
Attempt to provide some choice at breakfast to cater for a non-dairy diet.
Great location.
Car parking.
A window that closed properly / was so rotten it was falling out of it's frame.
No water for some considerable time in the shower - then just a trickle.
Difficult to find staff in the evening / at arrival.

None of it
It was filthy, dusty, moths everywhere, the bed was uncomfortable, the TV didn't work.

The history of the building. And the swimming pool.
Could do with taking down the COVID posters.

the property needs a makeover as starting to look tired

Although the floors were mostly on a slope and some doorway openings were lower than normal, it added to the character of the hotel.
Good for parking.
Our room.was at the front of the building (High street) so was a bit noisy early morning.
Bar closing at 10.30pm.

Location and friendliness of staff.
I was a bit disappointed with the breakfast. Plenty of cold buffet choices, but I would have much preferred a hot cooked breakfast.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is great for central Lewes. Very convinient for the train station.
Bed was very bouncy and had a dip in it. Bathroom was dirty. Room itself was very tired from the fading and worn carpet to the furniture. Towels were tiny, like hand towel size...

The hotel is in the perfect spot I don’t really have anything else that I think was good.
Well we’re should I start. Everywhere inside the building is in desperate need of re decorating, the furniture is old & very worn, nothing matches. The bathroom facilities in our room were the only things that looked clean. The bed had clean sheets but when we arrived it looked as though someone had been sleeping on top of the bed!!. The staff although polite once you had their attention should try taking pride in themselves perhaps then the hotel would get the attention it needs

the building was beautiful, old and has so much to offer and so much potential.
it was in a shabby, sorrowful state. ripped carpets, curtains hanging off, old fixtures and fittings. so tired and in kept.

This is a period property with lots of character and original features. Superb view of the South downs from my bedroom. Good breakfast, attentive staff. Super location for all amenities in Lewes.

The breakfast was continental all laid out neatly I would question how long ham and cheese should be sat out, the tea bags at breakfast weren't great. Good choice of cereals, fruit and juices.
The pillow had 1 cover on it I stripped be on departure to find a truly disgusting stained pillow the mattress didn't have a protector on only the sheet, and there was a horrible cushion on the bed that needed a wash. I was cold in the room despite the heating been on, and there was no spare blankets. I could not lock my door easily and did mention it I wasn't really given a solution. Although the surface of room was clean, round the taps could do with a good scrub, and cobwebs removed. It was really loud from the wind, but not a lot to do about that.

We planned to visit lewes castle which is just opposite so that was ideal. The lounge with the log fire and bar area is lovely. The staff were nice enough and answered any of my queries. The hotel has great potential and is really very beautiful. It is probably more appreciated in the summer.
1) the main reason I had chosen the hotel was for the swimming pool but it was far too cold to use the pool (the water temperature but also the room itself) which defeated the purpose of staying at the hotel.
2) the room was not clean enough for hotel standards: it was very dusty, there were stains on at least half of the towels provided and no housekeeping service was provided (empty bins and give a quick once over with a vaccuum for example)
3) It is normal to some extent for the hotel to be cold and draughty but there was no effort to improve insulation in the rooms (i.e. blinds and curtains over the windows)
4) Breakfast was too basic - the nutella was half frozen for exemple because the room was so cold and I suppose this was left out all the time on the buffet - and we had to ask for hot coffee (this was provided no questions asked, but I didn't think it was very good service to have to ask for it)
