We recently stayed in Dominical. It’s one of our favorite places in Costa Rica. Our rental was great. Working with the host was easy. She was responsive, helpful, and had plenty of insights for recommendations in the area. The view and pool were as advertised, terrific. The upstairs of the home is the rental and it is spacious with two separate bed rooms, huge kitchen dining living area with covered out side lounge barbecue area and great views. It is a bit of a treck up the mountain from the main road about 15 minn.
We surfed several different locations, visited local swimming holes with waterfalls, hung out at different beaches took the kids zip lining and horseback riding ate great food. Everything was within 20 to 45 minn from the house.

Terry is amazing and has all that you will need to ensure a great trip. She has locations that you "must" and "should" visit all prepared for you. Also, listen when she tells you that you need a 4X4 :)
The house is gorgeous located in an amazing and beautiful jungle with all sorts of wildlife...that said it can get really loud especially early in the morning when the wildlife wakes up the jungle (we found it delightful).
We went at a very hot time of the season (Mid March 2024) and yes it was very hot so we were happy to jump in the pool daily for a cool down as the air was not operational...there was a great rain storm our last night in the villa that cooled the whole area down and that was a welcome and needed downpour...

It’s one of the most incredible places you could possibly stay at. Views were fantastic of the ocean from the pool areas. Private short hiking trail. Terry is such a joy to visit with and was so helpful with ideas for excursions. Birds galore.

Beautiful location, we come from the mountains and loved staying in the mountains. Mizz Terry, the owner lives downstairs and was very respectful of our privacy. Even though Terry lives downstairs closest to the pool, we always had the pool to ourselves and felt right at home. Of course the bonus for us was getting to know Terry and her furry friends was a real joy. We loved our stay and hope to return in the future for a longer visit. We loved our experience. We were celebrating our 40th anniversary during our trip to Costa Rica. We have always liked our trips to include both adventure and relaxation. Villa Desiderata was the perfect spot for us. It is a quiet, clean, spacious, and calming retreat. The whole place made us feel at ease. Terry was very nice and easy to talk to. She was an excellent host and helped us get our bearings. Terry gave us superb recommendations on where to eat and beaches to see. We would definitely come again!

disappointing
From the directions to the property ...to the host ...to the house...this place is just smoke and mirrors. Although stated on her ad that you need 4 wheel drive; even with it... it's still horrible getting up the mountain. On arrival we were met by the "host" . First; you have to walk thru her house to get to the rental on the second floor …and we were informed NOT to turn on the hall lights ...as it would disturb her birds. The cage is located 1/2 in and 1/2 out of the house under the stairway. And NOT 1 or 2 birds at least a dozen parrots. If you want a.c. that will be an extra $15.00 per room per day...IN CASH...ceiling fans are on a timer. It was at least 85 degree's at night. We had a 7 day reservation …but checked out after 2. We went down to dominical, and stayed at rio Lindo hotel.
I think this woman is a scam artist ,and she rents to people on a budget, who don't have the extra money to relocate to another rental so they just have to grin and bare it...for a little extra money, I suggest "casa en cognito …on the south side of dominical. There's also some nice little rentals RIGHT in dominical. We usually stay at en cognito, but this was a short notice trip and they were booked. When we returned to the states we filed a complaint and received a full refund...thru American express. DON'T STAY AT THIS PROPERTY! Pay a little extra...and REALLY enjoy your vacation

Gorgeous secluded location with great views and nice amenities
Desiderata is a lovely villa, with an upstairs apartment for rent. It is perched on a gorgeous ridge overlooking the Pacific ocean embraced by rainforest mountains. The dirt road to the villa is an adventure that requires a reliable 4x4 vehicle, you’ll get great directions. The infinity pool is delightful, just as in the photos, it is used only by the guests while renting, as well as the lovely covered terrace for outdoor dining, and gazebo. The views from all rooms are truly amazing! The villa is well supplied, with reliable high speed, work-friendly video-call internet. It’s not as clean as one might expect, but it’s comfortable, with king beds and pillows and roomy bathrooms. The owner is French Canadian and lives downstairs, she is very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about Costa Rica, and is happy to help with directions and travel suggestions. Her 2 Aussie Blue pups are delightful, one of her cats may sneak upstairs briefly, but they stay mostly downstairs. There is a large aviary on the way upstairs, facing both outdoor terraces, with budgies ensuring an early start to your day. They add to the tropical feel of the place. The grounds are lovely with lots of bushes in bloom. We saw toucans, monkeys, hummingbirds, flocks of parrots and cranes, white headed hawks and turkeys. Overall a great place to visit, a peaceful sanctuary close to Quepos, Uvita, Dominical and Parque Marino Ballena. Thanks Terry, we really enjoyed our stay and will recommend Desiderata to others traveling to CR! Take care!

Incredible stay
Terry lives on the property and allows as much interaction as her guests want. We left feeling like family. She gave great suggestions for places to go and things to do. She even arranged a fishing trip with a local fisherman. We were able to bring home a feast which we prepared and enjoyed with our hostess.
Although we began with an interesting drive to the place, we rapidly felt at home. The place had plenty of space with a wide open concept. The grounds made for a nice hike one day and we spent a day in the pool enjoying the incredible view. Dominical was a short drive away with Uvita just a bit further and we frequently went to both.
We look forward to visiting CR again and whether we stay with Terry or find a place of our own, we will be sure to visit and keep in touch.

Wonderful Oasis
Our family of 5 stayed here over the holidays and had an amazing time! The views from the house were stunning, and we had everything we needed for our stay. I absolutely loved waking up in the morning and enjoying coffee on the deck while the kids played in the pool. Terry was a kind and wonderful host and had great recommendations for beaches to visit or other activities to do in the area. She pointed out toucans and other wildlife to our kids, and they loved exploring the beautiful gardens on her property. This trip was our first international trip as a family, and Terry definitely made it a memorable one!!! We definitely plan on staying here again in the future!

Disappointed
The property does have a wonderful view but we were unable to properly enjoy it. We had very limited access to the pool/pool area and always felt like we were intruding. We have never had an issue with any previous VRBO rentals. This rental was not cleaned properly we found debris under the beds, a used luffa hanging in the shower, a broken fan in the master bedroom and dirty rugs in the kitchen. The owner has 2 new puppies that do bark at pretty much all hours and there was construction in a new deck going on during our stay. I am sure the owner will have an excuse or rebuttal because she was argumentative during our stay.

Wonderful host, amazing view, everything you need!
Terry was truly a wonderful host and made our stay so comfortable in Costa Rica. She gave very helpful and clear instructions on how to get right to the property. Excellent communication from the start which made all the difference! Terry so graciously drew great maps and helped us find amazing waterfalls, wonderful restaurants, and fun things to do during our stay. My friends and I loved Terry's dog Mariah and her kittens, not to mention the wildlife around the house including all the birds. If you never even left her property you would be more than satisfied with your visit De Costa Rica. There's so many things to explore on her property let alone the beautiful pool to relax in. My only regret is that we didn't have more time to spend at the property because of doing so many other fun activities. The house is so complete with everything you could possibly need during your stay. We were able to cook a lot at the house so having every possible utensil,pan, container, you name it, was very helpful. You have everything at your fingertips and need not bring anything extra except maybe a pair of water shoes to wear around the pool. The beds were so comfortable and the living quarters were beautiful. I can't say enough good things about our stay with Terry. I feel like I have a friend in Costa Rica. I can't wait to bring my family back next time! We will for sure be staying at Terry's Place. Don't forget to check out one of the world's best swimming holes in Uvita, the town over from Terry's place.

Shangri-La!
The drive up the bumpy road is soon forgotten when you arrive at this piece of heaven. Exceeded our expectations. Surrounded by lush vegetation with a killer view down the coast line. We spent every late afternoon in the pool watching the sunset while toucans and parrots appeared. Terry was a superb host, offering insider tips about where to go, what to see. We definitely have a new very good friend and found it difficult to leave at the end of our stay. We cannot return soon enough.

The Most Beautiful Place. A Gem in Paradise
We could never have magined that we would be staying in Paradise! The Views of the ocean to the mountains were Breathtaking! The Top of the World is where we were. Terry made us feel like family and we were so Blessed that she shared her home with us! Birds, flowers, mountain breezes,breathtaking sunsets in the infinity pool every night were unforgettable! Fabulous location and hostess
This rental is the upstairs of an owner occupied property. Terry could not have been more helpful. Anything you need help with or want to know, she is there. If you want to keep to yourselves, she respects that as well. The pool is the perfect temp and a killer view. We had a fabulous time. A++++

Just reading the VRBO review wasn't enough to tell us that it was a 4x4 only accessible property.
I'm very happy with the property. VBRO and the owner never made me aware that; the owner lived in the property or that it was very distant and only 4x4 accessible. Not as many people would care for these non amenities and I didn't either.

Peaceful Naturalist Retreat Central Location Outstanding Location
The views and scenery of this location are great. We actually saw almost every bird and animal that we went to see in parks on Terry's property or on nearby walks. We spent a month and enjoyed everything from the surrounding jungle flora and fauna to the epic views of the coastline, outrageous sunsets, to star watching at night while floating in the pool. The fact that there are lots of parks, waterfalls, beaches and nearby towns all within an hours drive made this property a great base to explore from or come back to and chill out. One huge plus is the wealth of knowledge Terry supplied in terms of local knowledge about places to visit, where to shop, and much more that simplified and enhanced our stay.

Amazing Hideaway at the Beach
My girls (ages 8 and 10) and I spent 3 weeks at this property and after only 1 day we all felt very much at home. Terry is definitely a people person who loves to share her beautiful home and property. She was a wonderful host who quickly solved any routine home maintenance problems. The kitchen (although small) has all the necessary cooking utensils and equipment, however, the outdoor rancho and BBQ were great for cooking as well. Most of all we felt safe and my young girls felt free to roam the property and explore on their own.
We drove into Dominical daily for language immersion classes, about a 20 min drive. Although the drive to the property is an adventure, the abundance of animals and spectacular views we saw on each trip made the drive well worth the effort. The fact there were no mosquitos up in the mountains and we had a refreshing pool was always a welcoming bonus as well! I truly felt we were living in small piece of paradise! We hope to return again soon and would definitely stay at this property again.

Great location, great views, great price!
My husband and I "lived" at Villa Desiderata for 3 months this past winter and really felt at home. We had more than enough space for the 2 of us and were quite comfortable hosting another couple from Canada in our space for 2 weeks of our stay. The Rancho area was one of our favorite places to sit and read or play games and we ate all of our meals out there. We loved the location with the beautiful sunsets, views of the ocean, and slightly cooler temperatures in the evening and yet had great access and close proximity to many of our favorite beaches for our daily adventures. A 4 x 4 vehicle is needed (as stated in the ad) for the last little stretch of drive into the property but it's all part of the adventure of living in the Costa Rica jungle - along with co-existing with the many critters that inhabit this biodiverse part of the world! Terry, our host, was always available to help us out if we needed anything or had any questions. Our space was well stocked with the essentials and if any item was missing, we just asked Terry and she did her best to supply it to us. Terry is an animal lover and shares her home with several dogs, cats, and birds and renters can expect to share the experience of multiple pets in the home and on the property. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Villa Desiderata and are booked to return for another 3 months in 2019!

L'été est malheureusement la saison des pluies au CR,mais on s'y adapte vite.Il faut étre matinal et patient pour voir la faune locale.
La végétation est impressionnante et nous retournerons certainement
dans ce pays!

The property was very nice and reflected what was in the advertisement.
Terry was a great host and was available for assistance whenever needed. If you needed anything she was quick to provide it. The daily sunsets were amazing. The pool is available to refresh yourself on those hot days in the sun. Phoebe and Mariah will be there to greet you on your return to the property. They are lovable as well as great watch dogs! After a day at the beach or the market garden sitting out and having supper on the rancho watching a glorious sunset is a perfect ending to a perfect day in Costa Rica. Pura Vida!!

Paradise
Desiderata is a fabulous place to stay. It is a spacious, comfortable, peaceful place with stunning views up the coast. The children loved walking down to the waterfall in the grounds and seeing a family of monkeys that lived nearby. Tucked away in the rain forest we got to see the amazing wildlife. We saw a tapir and a sloth, both walked across the road in front of us on our way out one morning!
The infinity pool was lovely to cool off and relax in after sight seeing and exploring Costa Rica at the end of the day. A friendly toucan would sometimes swoop across the pool and late afternoon butterflies and dragonflies would play above our heads.
A 4x4 is essential and the road to the house is an adventure. It runs along a ridge which has breathtaking views both sides of the ridge. Driving back in the dark we would see circle birds in the headlights along this road.
The kitchen is fully equipped and it was nice having 2 en suites. It was spacious for a family of 4. We had many a great night playing pool.
Terry is a fantastic host. The best host I have ever met. She went out of her way to make our stay as relaxing and as enjoyable as possible. She is a generous, kind, caring person and a great problem solver. If we had any problems they were normally sorted out by the time we got back in the evening.
I will definitely go back again and have already recommend Desiderata to my friends at home. It's a great place to stay for a holiday along the south west coast of Costa Rica.

Muchos inconvenientes!!
Renté la villa Desiderata sin saber que: algunas fotos que aparecen en la web no corresponden a lo que se renta, porque son parte de la casa donde vive la dueña (primer piso) y lo que se renta es solamente el segundo piso, el cual resulta una sala de estar adaptada. Lo cual limita la intimidad e independencia.
Durante mi estancia el aire acondicionado no funcionó; la señal de Internet es mala; no hay TV cable con señal en directo, solo Netflix; el aviario resulta una jaula con muchos pericos de amor que hacen un ruido importante durante todo el día, el cual resulta molesto; y en lo que no estoy del todo de acuerdo es que se impida ingresar a la piscina con bloqueador, dado la condición tropical del país, esto provocó que mi hermana y mis dos niños se quemaran su cara y espalda.
El lugar es bonito y la dueña es una bella persona, pero la información de lo que se renta debe ser más precisa.

Endroit de rêve
Lorsque je pensais au Costa Rica c'était à sa nature et à sa végétation.
Lorsque je suis arrivée chez Terry j'ai été immédiatement enveloppé de cette nature avec en prime une ambiance de rêve comme dans une scène de cinéma.
La maison est superbe et offre toutes les commodités nécessaires à ce que le rêve se poursuive.
L'hôtesse est des plus accueillante, elle souhaite de vous faire passer un merveilleux séjour en vous guidant dans tous vos besoins d'explorations, de découvertes et d'expériences.
L'endroit est situé près de la mer et d'endroits tout aussi pittoresques les uns des autres.
Je recommande cette destination à tous ceux qui font un premier voyage dans ce pays à découvrir car tout en étant dépayser par cette belle et riche nature vous serez accueillit avec cette chaleur propre aux gens du Québec.

Beauty and Luxury in an Exotic Setting
"Terry's place is amazing! Upon first arrival the place was paradise, an incredible oasis! We felt very comfortable there. A very relaxing experience. This is a special place. Loved the openness of the space we lived in and lots of privacy. The property is gorgeous, private, the landscaping is incredible - and elegantly transition to the jungle so you really feel immersed in the surrounding jungle wildlife. Spectacular views, all the comforts of home, a visit from tropical birds in the surrounding canopies, wonderful doggies (and a shy cat) to greet you, and the best host, Terry has the gift of hosting and will be as invisible or helpful/present as you need and always had a solution or help for whatever you need. The road to the house is an adventure - a lovely hilly ride with wonderful vistas - so be sure to use a 4X4, it's a must. Her place is very comfortable and she makes you feel right at home. It’s wonderful that you can relax in the pool and we enjoyed our midnight dips & watching films at night. The view from the Rancho alone is breathtaking! We didn't want to leave... but we will be back!

Un magnifique endroit !
J'ai séjourné deux semaines chez Terry et l'endroit est magnifique. La maison est spacieuse , la vue est incroyable. Nous avons pu profiter pleinement de la piscine, tout en admirant la faune et la flore qui s'offrent à nous. Des nombreux papillons , colibris, toucans et singes ont été observés. La maison est belle, bien divisée et permet une belle intimité pour les visiteurs. Terry est une hôtesse très accueillante et sympathique. Nous avons beaucoup apprécié notre expérience et notre séjour . Nous y retournons certainement !
