The location was excellent. Right in town, surrounded by numerous pubs and restaurants, and only a block away from the lake and large park. The room although very basic had two sets of bunk beds.

The staff appeared extremely stressed when we arrived, about things going wrong at the hostel, e.g. electricity outage that had interfered with the door locks. i was not reassured that we would be safe and left a little terrified if I were to lose the key card or the entry code for the room. There were two staff, the second seemed like it was her first day on the job after minimal if any training. It took a bit of hunting before they could find our booking. Not the best welcome I've ever had in accommodation. We were not offered any advice regarding parking especially as everywhere seemed to be limited to 1 hour only. The communal kitchen was large and seemed well-catered, but cleaning was clearly largely left to other residents. The foyer space was large and mostly unused. Could have been set up far more comfortably so as to be even marginally welcoming.

Be aware that the elevator only takes you to level 1. every other level requires you to take a flight of stairs depending on where your room is so if you have a lot of luggage or a disability, either ask about staying on level 1 or find another place. Beds were a little uncomfortable but for a one night stay, it wasn’t too bad. Lots of noise from the bar across the street but that is stipulated by the hotel when you book.

Nice clean room with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Perfect for us as we just needed somewhere to sleep at night as we were out all day.

Getting woken up at 3.30am on our last night due to someone from one of the Stagg dos setting off the fire alarm.

We are on the 3rd floor and its a bit challenging when you have heavy bags with you to climb the stairs. Not too bad though hence I rate this as a 9/10.

We were surprised the attached bathroom was very huge! We loved our stay there. The room is comfortable. Comfortable bed, got a lake view where we can watch sunset and sunrise from our room. Bathroom is exceptional. Would definitely stay in the same room again. The location is also very central we could just walk to go anywhere. Car park are generous as well around taupo so no issue with parking. Overall, love our stay there. this room type is located at level 3 and the building has no elevator. So if that is a concern for you, maybe choose other types of room on level 2 or level 1.

The kitchen facilities are equipped but quite dirty. Could do with more frequent cleaning.

Easy to walk around. The heater in the room saved me from freezing at night.

No lift to go to 3rd floor and the stairs were steep.

No breakfast, it is a Hostel. We (me and my wife) took an ensuite room. Bathroom super clean, excellent shower, very comfortable room (3rd floor).

Only one power outlet in the room.
