We stayed at the cabin for my son's 9th birthday. The cabin was a perfect for us. The views of the bay are spectacular.
There is small beach within a 5 minute walk from the cabin. We had great luck finding shark teeth and other fossils there.
South beach is a 5 minute drive and again we had no problem finding shark teeth.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we're already talking about a return trip.
The owner is super proactive and goes above / beyond to make sure you have a great trip.

We had a great time. The balcony view was spectacular and the eagle in the tree to our left was an added bonus. Having a private beach was wonderful and we took advantage of the hiking trails close by. Thanks!!

We had a great stay and Brett was extremely responsive. Gorgeous location and special cabin.

The Navy cabin absolutely exceeded our expectations. It checked all of our boxes plus more! It is located in a private, quiet community, has a waterfront view, beaches within walking distance, and wildlife galore. Our first evening there we were lucky to witness a bald Eagle perch on a tree right outside. He visited us once more during our short trip! Brett is a wonderful host, dare to say the best host we've had the pleasure of dealing with through VRBO. His attention to detail was very much appreciated. His communication was above and beyond! We really felt at home with his hospitality. We were able to bring our furbaby(dog) with us, which completely sealed the deal. The yard was just beautifully landscaped before our arrival and new windows installed downstairs. The Navy cabin is such a gem! We were sad to leave but are hoping to visit again very soon! Thank you Brett, for allowing us to share in all it's beauty.

Bald eagles and hawks in the daytime. Stunning views of both the sunrise and the full moon! Unbelievable peace and quiet!
The property owner went way above and beyond the call of duty in making sure our stay was comfortable.

Just what we needed. Charming, eclectic, cozy and comfortable. Beautiful sunrises and breakfast with Bald Eagles. Starry nights, cool breezes, tasty ribs, fossil finds, watercolor painting and photo ops galore. Add some wine, music, time to read and play board games and we are indeed in our happy place. Thanks Brett!

If you want to get away from the noise, this is the place to go. Stargazing, beach combing, hiking trails, beautiful sunrises, bird watching, and only about an hour away from Washington, DC, etc. My husband and I came to the Navy Cabin for our 6 year anniversary. We had such a wonderful time, We will definitely be coming back!

We had a wonderful stay at the cabin. Brett was easy to work with and very detailed in his instructions. The view of the bay is exquisite.

Wonderful weekend at the log cabin overlooking the Chesapeake Bay! Everything we expected and more with the wood burning fireplace to keep us cozy on a winter getaway. Looking forward to spending more time in the summer to enjoy sitting on the deck in the sun and at night for more stargazing!

We love rustic, quiet, nature and history. This checked all the buckets. Beautiful sunrise, birds, critters and water. We only left the house to walk on the beach, go out to dinner and hit the Marine Museum. An absolutely lovely spot to decompress and get back to what's important. Brett was a fabulous host and communicator!

My husband and I had a marvelous stay at Brett's cabin by the Bay in the winter time. One of our favorite aspects of his cozy retreat is its hominess and maritime accents in the decor. With stunning views of the water from the deck that's fifty feet above the Bay, each day and evening offered fantastic bird watching and nature moments.
Brett's cabin was clean and comfortable, and he thought of everything to make it a great place to relax and settle in--from a variety of cookware and dishes to soft towels and comfy sitting areas. The neighborhood was quiet, which was just what we were looking for.
We really appreciated Brett's friendly and available communication when we had some questions, or when he let us know about something in advance. An all-around wonderful host! We can't wait to go back.

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at Brett's log cabin on the bay. The water views were the best! The cabin itself was cozy and had everything we needed. Our time there in Scientists Cliffs was so quiet and relaxing. Just what we needed!

We walked in.. headed right to the deck. I almost started to cry. You could not tell where the water ended and the sky began. Just like the description. A perfect place to unwind, relax and reset. The view from almost every window was amazing. The history of the community is fascinating. Yeah, it was a wee bit musty, but it's an old cabin on the water. Open the windows for a bit to air it out, and your golden. The bed was so comfortable. I actually slept, which is odd when I am away. My husband walked every morning, which is what he does when he is on vacation. We found some cute little coastal towns for lunch and dinner. Brett was amazing from start (I rented it 6 months ago) to finish. He was quick to respond any time I had a question. I want to visit this cabin in every season. I'd love to cozy up by the fire in the Winter. I hated to leave. We saw a bald eagle, and so many birds. The night sky was brilliant. It's not often you see so many stars. I highly recommend a stay at The Navy Cabin!! Thank you Brett!

We loved the view and property. Fascinating cabin. It was a little musty but that is to be expected of a wood cabin that is close to 100 years old. All three of us enjoyed watching the water and rages/ospreys sitting on the tall tree above the cabin. We had long discussions as to if they were bald eagles or ospreys. In the end we decided they were beautiful and it really didn’t matter. It is a great place to relax and enjoy nature. I recommend it. My brother in law saw a picture and is eager to come visit. He is an architect and loved the pictures of the cabin. He also loves the bay. Thank for the opportunity to stay at Bre’s cabin.

This was a wonderful long weekend spent with friends exploring the beaches and relaxing in a wonderful cozy Captains Cabin with everything you could need. Brett, the host, was incredibly friendly, helpful, and communicative. Access to Miocene fossil beds, American Chestnut Land Trust trails, watching lightening storms and sunrises over the bay from the deck, jellyfish glow and swim at night by headlamp) .. we ran out of time. I will be rebooking soon. Even found a Levanna projectile point!

Amazing views of the bay, steps from the beach in an extremely serene location. Perfect place to enjoy sun and moon risings, and the stars with no light pollution. Brett was a gracious, very accommodating host. We had a great time and hope to get back there soon.

Brett is the best host we have ever had! He makes sure to speak to you personally, know the details of the type of experience you seek, and is readily available to answer any questions! The view from the cabin is breathtaking! We experienced the best bird-watching ever, starting with a pair of eagles that would come to rest at a tree next to this cabin. Bring your binoculars to watch the eagles, osprey, seagulls, hummingbirds, pelicans, and so many more species of birds! You will also enjoy colorful butterflies going from one beautiful flower to another. We had our 8 and 10-year-old boys and went down to the private beach to walk, look for shark teeth, collect shells, and learn about jellyfish. Generally, it is swimmable, but this year, jellyfish were everywhere, including Point Look Out, St Mary's, and Solomon's Island. The neighbors told us every several years, there are a lot of jellies, and this happened to be the year. It was okay, though, because the boys were curious to learn about them and the blue crabs we saw.
The cabin is close to many amazing landmarks and offers great hiking trails. If you are looking to relax or looking for an adventure, you can find both here. Oh, and the stargazing is phenomenal! We saw shooting stars every night we were there.
This trip allowed us to not only have fun as a family, but to learn about so many aspects of nature! Brett provides everything you need and more. We will be back!!!

My partner and I had a fantastic time at the Navy Cabin. Brett’s communication and thoughtfulness from the beginning to the end made the trip seamless.
The cabin itself is absolutely gorgeous, you can stare at the view the whole time.
We unfortunately did not find any sharks teeth, but will need to come back and complete our search.
Lovely, lovely stay and unforgettable weekend!

Scientists Cliffs is a very cool little community on the banks of the Chesapeake, and the Navy Cabin is about as good as it gets if you're looking to visit there. The location feels remote and private once you're inside, with the best view of the bay I've honestly ever seen! But you're still only a ten minute drive from town when you want to grab dinner or groceries. The cabin is as charming as the photos suggest, and gives you the feeling that you've gone back in time, but with wifi and a nice TV. Scientists Cliffs has so many areas you can walk around and explore, whether it's a low-tide stroll on the beach or a walk around the many hidden pathways and boardwalks. Not to mention the land trust hiking trails, which seem endless. But once you see that view, you're probably just going to want to sit on the back deck and enjoy it, which is mostly what I did. I feel lucky to have this place to visit, and the owner Brett could not be more friendly, conscientious, and dedicated to ensuring a safe and happy stay.

We had a wonderful time. I appreciated the access to 2 beaches within walking distance of the cabin (you’ll have to walk up & down steps) plus a community beach that offers easy access nearby. All of these beaches are good for fossil hunting. The night sky is dark and it’s a good stargazing spot. At night the sky is ink black. I’m grateful that Brett accommodated my request to bring my cat who was very happy relaxing in the cabin…She did not want to leave! This was my first time vacationing in the Chesapeake bay area, and I never saw so many butterflies in one place before. The weather is more humid than I thought because it’s near water. We enjoyed watching the large freighter ships heading to the Baltimore harbor from the deck. Very few or no mosquitos as long as you apply bug spray. I found a fossil or two. The area is a nice quiet peaceful area and beautiful as described. During our stay the weather was relatively hot. The AC did not quite reach the kitchen (a fan was available). The sleeping area downstairs is very cosy…. and offers a King size bed and it converts to two twin size beds if that’s what you need. This cabin would be great for a couple seeking a romantic getaway. The host Brett was very communicative and available anytime needed.

I brought my mother and three children to this delightful cabin for a four night stay in mid-July. The kids and I went fossil hunting everyday during low tide and found a bunch of shark and ray teeth. My kids also enjoyed the community pool in the heat of the day. On the bay view deck in the late afternoon, we watched eagles, ospreys, and herons do their thing. The interior of the cabin was clean with a cozy/rustic charm. The kitchen was cute and had everything we needed to make great meals using local produce bought from Chesapeake’s Bounty. Our host Brett was very attentive to our questions and responded quickly to my texts. We will definitely be returning here next trip back east.

Brett is a great host, and it is easy to appreciate the uniqueness of his cabin. We appreciated the view from the deck, the location of the dining table (you are never without a view of the water!), the access to the beach, and the very peaceful locale.

From the initial contact with Brett to learning more abt Scientists Cliffs, I was charmed by this spot before I even arrived, but when I got there, I found a true log cabin, cozy and dedorated with an eclectic assortment of souvenirs that show the many travels of this cabin’s owner. And true to its name, it’s peppered with sea-focused memorabilia. It feels like going to visit your grandparents in the country. And the view is magnificent.
I didn’t do much on this first trip (first because I’m definitely coming back here), but relaxed a whole lot. And just for that it was worth it.
Found some fossil and maybe a shark tooth (I think) on the beach.

The view was just as magnificent as in the pictures--water as far as the eye can see. The first night, there was a full moon. The next, we saw a storm come in and there were branches of lightning across the horizon. The fireplace was a wonderful way to be cozy in the cabin. We did walks on South Beach and found some fossils as well as two long hikes on the American Chestnut Land Trust trails. Definitely a unique place and we learned a lot and relaxed.

Brett is friendly, thorough, and a perfect host. Our family of five had a wonderful stay. The cabin was cozy and clean with all the amenities we needed. Built in the 1930s the cabin has been updated, but still sports an old timey charm. We were looking for a place off the beaten path to relax, and we were not disappointed. Our family especially enjoyed our time strolling along the coast looking for seashells and sharks' teeth, and skipping stones into the Bay. Our teenagers loved having the whole beach to themselves! It was a great adventure. And we even found 2 fossil sharks' teeth! We went to Calvert Cliffs one afternoon, which was a fun 1.6 mile hike to the beach, and we did a small hike through the trails at Scientists' Cliffs as well. We loved powering down at the end of the day with a fire in the fireplace and playing games. We had breakfast on the deck and were treated to bald eagles flying over head and perching in the neighbors' tree. I'd never seen a bald eagle that close before! The whole place is wonderfully quiet and peaceful. It was just what we needed to unwind. Thank you Brett! Were we not out in Colorado we would love to visit every year!

My friend and I had the best, most relaxing experience staying at the Navy Cabin for a work retreat. Brett is exceedingly kind and helpful and is clearly so enthusiastic about the cabin and the beautiful location. I loved learning this history of the cabin and of the community and The check in and out processes were very smooth with very clear instructions and the cabin provides the perfect space to unwind. The view off the back deck is even better than the photos!

The Cedar Waxwing birds arrived on the last full day of our week. They began to devour the Holly berries on the tree outside the large window in the dining area. We sat and watch for nearly an hour before they had their fill and left in a great flock. They were back for breakfast (theirs and ours) the next morning. It was a fitting conclusion to a wonderful week. We enjoyed a series of delightful experiences: clear, dark nights revealed countless stars; a windy, rainy day churred up the Chesapeake Bay; A sunny, warm morning allowed a brisk beach walk almost outside our door (and down a long flight of stairs); a sunrise surprise every day!
What a treasure this cabin on the cliffs is. Toasty warm in January with so many thoughtful preparations by Brett. The 180 degree watery beauty seen through a full wall of floor to ceiling windows at the cliff's edge topped off a week we will never forget.

We had a great time at the Navy Cabin. Brett was very attentive and made sure we arrived smoothly and knew the ins and outs of the cabin. The view was incredible and the surrounding area was quaint and quiet. We went for a walk at the nearby American Chestnut Land Trust and enjoyed the sounds of the native birds and the bay. Even during the off season, the Navy Cabin was a refreshing escape from the city. Thanks for sharing it, Brett!

The stay at the cabin was heavenly. The view is amazing! At first I couldn't tell where the sky ended and the water began. Sunrises were worth waking up for. We slept in, watched movies by the fire, ate at wonderful restaurants nearby, searched beaches for shark's teeth, and even got in a little antique/knick-knack shopping. The cabin more than met all of our needs. The bed is comfortable, the showers are hot, and the place is lovely. Brett is so welcoming and full of helpful information. He checked in on us periodically to make sure everything was working as it should and that we were having a good time. We will be back again.

My husband and I stayed at the Navy Cabin over the Christmas holiday. We loved the tree Brett put up with all of his Navy ornaments and Santa. Waking up to a bright orange sunrise over the Bay was incredible. So was the daily Bald Eagle flyover. He likes to perch on the large trees on either side of the cabin.
We loved Adam's Taphouse and Grill for best crab cakes, spiced shrimp, everything! Ordered groceries on-line from Giant Food and they delivered right to the cabin.
The owner, Brett, is on-top of everything and very communicative.

The log cabin was charming and cozy with knockout views of the Chesapeake bay. The host Brett was extremely responsive, friendly, and truly cared about us having as comfortable a stay as possible. The wood fireplace was wonderful. The bed was surprisingly comfortable. There are cool books and knickknacks and interesting art everywhere to look at. Showers offered plentiful hot water and enough water pressure to rinse conditioner out of my hair. I spent most of my time on the back deck watching the sun rise and listening to the sounds of waves and seagulls. I loved that the cabin was dog friendly, but also was super clean and didn't smell like dogs at all! I would definitely stay at the cabin again and recommend it to friends and family. A fantastic way to start the new year.

After staying at various rentals over the years; in various locations, we have finally found our "place". We always seek out the homes that look to provide a quiet, peaceful place where we can disconnect from our busy lives, but they never live up to that. The Captain's Cabin does!
The Captain's Cabin is a beautiful and cozy home, which has so much to offer. Aside from going into town for groceries and eating a meal out, we never left. The large deck overlooking the bay is perfect for relaxing, and you can hear the waves lapping down below. It's also perfect for stargazing! A short walk takes you down to a sandy beach, which is great at low tide. It was exciting to find some sharks teeth, and lots of shells. The kitchen has everything you would need, and there's plenty of different places in the cabin to relax while reading a book, or just stare at the bay.
Brett was a wonderful host, and kept in touch through the whole process. We will definitely be returning to the Captain's Cabin as soon as we can!

Brett’s Navy Cabin was as promised… rustically charming! Loved the authentic log cabin and it’s history and that of Scientists Cliffs. From the moment that we arrived until the sad day of departure we felt embraced by the warm, cozy, artistic surroundings. How delightfully decorated and several cozy nooks to retreat to in the main living area. So many books to ponder reading when we return! Such a variety of relaxing areas indoors and out to look out over the bay to watch a variety of sea vessels, sunrises, sunsets or star gaze at night. A gorgeous stone fireplace to set the tone for a relaxing evening…. Or a cozy stay at home day!
Brett was a most gracious host, checking in to make certain our stay was going well, and was always very responsive.
We were grateful for this time away, and greatly look forward to our next visit! Thank you Brett for welcoming us into your home.
Miss it already💗
